Foe Reqiem, and your dungeon party.

Is it more dps to Foe Requiem for the white mage that just entered Cleric Stance or to just keep dpsing. Maybe it is better to Mana song since Holy can quickly deplete their mp pool?

assumption: No caster dps class around, 1 Bard 1 Melee or even 2 Bards. The healer haven''t needed mana song, pretty unlikely yer gonna die while casting, however it is time away from doing damage while you are casting.

Mainly looking for dungeon grouping answers, Currently I Foe Requiem if I see Cleric Stance pop up in those situations, that might be the wrong answer though.

I mean, foes is like a what, 1-2 second cast? You don't drop that much dps by casting it.

If the mage doesn't need MP, yes throw up a foes because why not? Extra damage is extra damage and I don't think the sole cast time from foes makes it not worth it.

As a healer I love it when BRDs use Foe for me.

The social answer is clearly to Foe's.

As to casting time I think of it as one regular attack for a 10% bonus too all their attacks for a period of time, but as a healer they may not be be filling that time entirely with attacks. The question isn't will the cute Lalafell healer like it, but which is better mechanically.

If you don't want to waste time DPSing, then start casting it while the tank is running up to the mobs/boss.

Foe's is less than one GCD of animation for multiple GCDs of bonus damage for your WHM/BLM/ACN. Do the math, basically.

good question, i generally pop it in dungeons even if there are no casters but a healer doing damage with foe req up is better than him doing damage without it up. I try to precast it on a fight to minimize dps loss. I get what you're saying about casting it in combat basically when does it become a dps increase and I'm not entirely sure, you would have to have some good math skills to figure that out.

EDIT: Used my good math skills to do some math. bard at 360 dps= 18,000 damage over 50 seconds (roughly a full foe requiem) 16,920 if you cast it in combat. (17,300ish with dots up?)
I put the healer at 200 dps cuz I'm not sure how much they do honestly. That's 10,000 damage normally over 50 seconds, 10940 with foe requiem. So you're still looking at a slight dps loss to cast foe requiem in combat for a healer doing 200 dps over almost a full foe requiem. If the bard has dots rolling he will be doing slightly more damage because those still roll as he casts, probably making it a slight dps increase to cast the song.

Having foe up even if just for a sch or whm helps, Ninja's benefit as well.
It is dependant on group composition, etc.
If it is half and half (casters, plus melee) and i am the only Bard i may sing foe for half and then turn it off to either regen or use Ballad if i know healers may need mp

The few seconds it takes to sing sure, but once active does not lower dps

In a typical dungeon speed run you put up Foe just before the tank is done rounding everything up. No GCDs lost. Not sure where the concern is.

Precast or not, one global cooldown + some change of potency is still worth significantly less than the bonus potency a single WHM will get from several rounds of Holy, so I don't see why your boxers are in such a twist. Are you some kind of BRD DPS Rights' Activist?

In any case, the correct answer is obviously to precast when possible. But if not able to precast, it's still worth the 1.2 GCD's.

Wait, there are BRDs here who think playing Foe Requiem is a DPS loss because it only costs 3s on their behalf if they didn't play it pre-pull? Man, it's not even that noticeable because the healer is assisting with DPS and Foe Requiem increases party DPS as a result of that extra damage. Requiem'd Holys add up, pre-sung or not. That GCD and a fifth if you didn't sing the song already isn't that noticeable of what anyone would call a "DPS loss." If you're going to get pissy about it, it should be over the healer not taking advantage of the song, or people needing a Ballad or Paeon too early, especially when you have buffs active.

Foe Requiem should be played as often as possible and if none of the other songs are needed. If you're not going to play one of your songs effectively, you're not doing your job as a BRD. Stop bitching about "M-MUH DEEPS" and start singing some dirges to give your casters a welcomed boost in their damage.

Lol, my boxers are hardly in a twist. I just think its silly when people spew blatant misinformation that is easy looked up. Bard rights... What? I dont even... (I'll just assume that was a bad joke)

Of course it is usually worth it to cast Foe. Foe is worth the missed Heavy Shot/Quick Nock the vast majority of the time, unless the mobs are almost dead. But it is best to precast, obviously.

Well, with no black mage the typical "speed run" I see is a Tank pulling 2 groups at once, with a Black Mage I see the more typically talked about speedrun less then half the time. When Barding I'm taking up one of the spots after all, and often the other dps is a Ninja or another Bard. For some reason the random tanks I run into don't seem to see this as to adding up to pulling everything. I know I'm playing with randoms when I go duty findering :D Playing with randoms gives better stories.

Foes does not cast on the run, I can certainly start pre-casting it though by stopping a bit earlier then the tank. :D

As a WHM main, I love it when BRDs play Foe's for me. Because if I'm Holying, that means there's 3+ mobs and the extra boost on my brief DPS is nice. However, it's not really necessary to play Ballad, even after Holying. A good WHM will Holy about 3-5 times and then Shroud after, between doing that and the distance between pulls, the WHM should have no problem getting MP back.

The only time I have ever needed Ballad in a 4-man run is in WP HM because my boyfriend who plays PLD will pull all 3 trash pulls before the 2nd boss, and proceed to exhaust my MP to about 100-800 depending on DPS. Then we're kinda stuck awkwardly looking at the 2nd boss for a good minute or so before we can go in, lol.

As brd main who tries to sing every encounter this just makes me wanna punch myself in the face

Machinist is said to be kind of a support class so perhaps Bards (the good ones that actually sing) can catch a break, haha

As a care WHM, any bard who Foes for me gets my comm. Sadly I see too many who don't sing at all or just sing Tp song.

I was kinda thrilled to see this thread.

I know some SCH's who'd prowess want Foe too but idk about that >.>

Of course SCHs should want Foes; Bane is great on small groups, and SCH sustained single-target damage on bosses is significant.

What kills me is having a BRD play Paeon and then leave it on for no apparent reason even between pulls.
