Breeding my first chocobo.

So I noticed some of the hardcore folks ranking up their birds took them to rank 40 and just bred them with some random.. I painstakingly ranked up two birds to 50 and trained them heavily... yes.. non stop racing. LOL. So gald its over. Better be a fast bird and hopefully the stats are carried over based on parentage and percentage. Fingers crossed.

So it doesn't matter how much work you put into your birds based on stats, your next bird is doing to have a fixed amount of each stat regardless of what you do. So don't bother ranking up two birds to breed. Not yet anyways... Just use one of the coverings from the Gold Saucer and pray to RNGesus. You can also have a significantly better bird than someone else and still lose to them based on RNG. (coffers, weather etc.)

wish there was an instanced chocobo stable we could put at house where we can store our racing and retired chocbos to go say hi once in a while :P

Okay so I got my second bird and it's Grade 2 with all stats and rating starting at 15, what was yours?

You did two Pedigree 1 birds at 50 and breed them to create a Pedigree 2?

Yes.

I also trained my bird with grade 1 feed and got 2 points out of it. Not sure why or how but I did.

theres a thread in reddit about breeding chocos.. they are spectulating higher pedigree has more chance for giving bonus stats on feeding

Okay i'll make a new thread.

here's what i gathered about breeding.

Your attributes (#/100) does not carry over, however, the more stars you have the higher the maximum number for a certain stat is higher as well. ie. a 2 star stamina will give you max of 100/100, a 4 star is maxed at 250.
With stars: from what i gather, your offspring has a 50/50 chance of getting the stats from either the mother or the father.
This is where the pedigree comes in for your covers.

You will notice that the cover that you buy for doesn't actually show you how many stars for each stat it has, rather what is show is it's pedigree (the stats of it's mom and dad).
Therefor, you can calculated this way:
your chocobo:
2 star Stamina
2 star Speed
2 star acceleration
2 star cunning
2 star endurance
- you offspring has a 50% chance of getting these stats

- continued

the cover you buy:
Mom / / Dad
1 Star Stamina / / 3 Star stamina
3 Star Speed / / 2 Star Speed
2 Star Acceleration / / 1 Star acceleration
2 Star cunning / / 2 star cunning
1 Star endurance / / 1 Star endurance
- your offspring would have a 25% chance of receiving these stats
ie. 50% 2 star Stamina (from your chocobo) and 25% 1star and 25% 3 star (from the cover)
you would get a 100% chance of getting 2 star cunning since your chocobo has 2 stars and your cover is also 2 stars (as both parents of your cover is also 2 stars)
and finally a 50% 2 star endurance (from your chocobo) and a 50% 1 star endurance (from he cover)

at least this is my theory. I don't know how abilities works though.

My question is, are you allowed to mix grades and is it worth it?

You can mix them, is it worth it ?

Arguable, because if the difference is to big its more unlikly from higher parent are choosen.

Pro: Higher pedigree levels have more useful abilties.

But dont worry, light grind is nothing compared to raise a single pedigree 9 bird.

How do these stats work in the races?(seems more of a question for SE) My second chocobo is losing worse than my first chocobo in the R-80's races with about 20% better stats than my original bird. I can't seem to get first at all anymore.

Another thing I noticed is that my stamina bar will drain halfway through one race and last the entirety of another race regardless of weather preference. I wish SE would be a little more punctual on these kinds of things.

so would be getting a grade 9 covering me silly for breed with my first choco?

From my observations I have a theory behind how the stats actually work.

Let's use the maximum speed stat as the example here as it's the simplest to understand in regards to my theory. What I propose is that there is a maximum visual speed (how fast the chocobo appears to be running when we look at it) already in place for every track, so regardless of your maximum speed stat you can never actually run faster than this maximum visual speed cap. Now that we have that concept in our heads i'll explain how this works when you add more than one chocobo to the line up.

The chocobo with the highest maximum speed stat is able to obtain this maximum visual speed we talked about while every other chocobo can only obtain a percentage of this maximum visual speed which is relative to the difference between the highest maximum speed stat and their own. A simpler way to put it would be the difference between the highest maximum speed stat and everyone else's dictates how quickly each chocobo can visually sprint comapred to the maximum visual speed.

My reasoning behind this theory is that from careful observations while gaining a total of 68 ranks so far is that there appears to be no signifigant increase in how quickly you can complete any given track. I have observed a rank 10 chocobo sprinting on a course just as quickly as a rank 48 chocobo with a much higher maximum speed stat.

Further reasoning behind my theory is that SE, me and you would benefit from such a system because it means we can not progressively complete a course in less time the more we race it which gives everyone a very similar progression curve in the amount of races they can actually fit into any given time period. This stops players from being able to gain even more xp advantages on top of their current stat advantage by not being able to fit significantly more races into the same time period another player with a lower maximum speed and/or rank could.

Does that make sense to you guys?

my first chocobo is a pedigree level 1, a rank 47 and rating 57
he has 2 stars everywhere
i started giving him grade 2 endurance and speed then grade 1
he still have 2 stars at these attributes so i feed it for nothing

then i don't understand what to do :
i need to retire my chocobo and get a "retired chocobo registration" ???
i need to get a "covering permission form" ???
but which one : G1, G2... or G9 ???
what grade is my chocobo ???
pedigree = grade ???
the 2 chocobos need to be the same grade or pedigree ???
if pedigree 1 + pedigree 1 = pedigree 2, then pedigree 2 + pedigree 2 = pedigree 3 or 4 ???
chocobos from stock are G1, where do i get G2+ ???
what do i need to do to get a 3 stars chocobo ???

Could it not simply be because your maximum speed stats might be greatly higher, your actual speed stats isnt?

ok got my first baby today heres what i have.

my choco:
all 2 star

mommy pedigree 9:
3 star - speed
3 star - accel
1 star - endur
2 star- stam
3 star- cunn

my baby has:
pedigree 2
3 star- speed caped 180
2 star- accel caped 140
1 star-endur caped 100
2 star-stam caped 140
3 star- cunning caped at 180

so, im thinkng that no matter what you breed your choco with it will only go up a possible one grade of pedigree, this may only have an effect on what your choco stats start at, and at pedigree 2, im start at 25,18,15,17,20.

has anyone jumped more then one pedigree? other then raiseing your stat caps potentially higher quicker, and possible better abilities,(mine took my origanls ability, which now is locked) there doesnt seem to be much of an advantage. with rng, and gp costs, i think saving all your gp till you finally get to pedigree 8-9, and then rolling the dice on the 10 breeds you have to hopefully get the rng you want.also, once you retire a grade 7 and then a grade 8, will breeding them together give a 9?? we dont know yet, but to me spending any gp not needed to spend at this point doesnt make sence.

I'll elaborate.

The rank 48 chocobo was mine and it had 60/100 in the maximum speed stat, it was sprinting at the same visual speed as a rank 10 chocobo that had somewhere between 20-25/100 in its maximum speed stat. Those numbers would suggest that my rank 48 chocobo should be able to at least sprint twice as fast as the rank 10 chocobo. Yet when you compare the visual maximum speed of each one in different races it is the same.

I did, both were running in neutral weather conditions. However do you honestly think something like favored weather is going to make up for that much of a gap in stats between a rank 10 and rank 48?

Fealow is it Possible That Rank 10 was a 2nd or 3rd generation Chocobo?
And Also if you have 60 stat in speed and not as much in Cunning, Acceleration then
the Other chocobo who has that 20-25 speed stat with a higher acceleration and cunning than you would be gaining more and loosing less speed than you after/before turns.

I have beaten rank 20+ with a 1 rank and 40+ with a 9 rank G-5 chocobo.

Could it be that racing in the Open category balances everyone into somewhat similar stats? I've tried racing my rank 38 Chocobo with my friend's fresh rank 1 Chocobo and we were similar in speed. This was in the Open category, with my Pedigree at 3. Speed was in the 100s compared to his.... what 15?

Ouch, must have been tough to realize all your hard work racing both of those birds to 50 was wasted. Still it's good practice for when we get to pedigree 9 and ranking multiple birds to 40 to try and get one with the most stars and best skill.
