Gold Saucer is congested? Seriously?

I'm super disappointed that I can't even get into Gold Saucer right now. It keeps saying the area you are trying is currently congested. Please try again later. I'd rather just log off.....

Not their fault that 5k+ people are all trying to access the area at once lol.

It can only hold so much. Would you rather them limit it and people be able to actually do things? Or not limited and watch it crash every 5 minutes from to much happening. Then even more people would be complaining lol

This was guaranteed to happen at some point. It's brand new content on release day, I logged in for a bit earlier today just to get the quest done and made sure to log out outside of the gold saucer area in case it got this congested before i got back home from work. If I can't get back in this evening, no problem I'll just run other content and wait till the excitement wears down a bit. Shouldn't take long.

Well they could make more than 1 server for the bigger worlds like Balmung.

And yes! I do expect to be able to play content that I pay for monthly exactly when it is released.

Awesome, this means that hunts will be much less zerg-fest like and it might be possible for DPS to be listed as the class in-need in Duty Finder!

I've not logged in since patch yet, is the whole thing a single zone..? It seems like it should be two zones at least.

It's a single zone. Chocobo Races are instanced.

It really was hard to finish and get my Yoichi bow when all were hunting and df times were always 30+ minutes, even Expert Roulette was over 30.

It's two zones; the chocobo racing is in a separate map and currently everyone in there is trapped there on Phoenix because they can't get back into the main complex due to congestion...

As much as I understand server issues I have to agree that when something is paid for it should be available. It's like saying congrats you bought a car but you can't drive it.

Welp, I logged out in Gold Saucer at 3am this morning. If I can't log in to raid I'll be pretty upset.

Not really, it's more like saying "Congratulations, you bought a car, but so did 2 million other people who are all trying to leave the dealership also, they all pay taxes for the roads they drive on, but congestion happens due to a large, but ultimately variable demand."

Bingo! You got that right. Check the I-10 or I-405 in L.A. during rush hour starting from 2:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and you can't drive anywhere it is a 5 lane parking lot on both sides. Welcome to the reality of congestion.

Well yes it is their fault. The patch content is mostly that so you would expect most people to flock to it. The game uses instanced areas so they should have the 'technology' to spawn a new instance of the zone when needed. Poor planning. it's similar to the queuing at launch.

I find it hard to stomach when people are mad and don't understand the reasoning behind the situation they are mad at. Is this your first mmo? Patch days are usually filled with issues, at least the game is up and playable, when 2.0 first launched you couldn't even get into the dungeons let alone stay in game for more than 20 minutes before it crashed. Give it a little bit of time, you'll get to play the content that you and the other 500,000 subs are trying to play at same time.

This exact issue has been a solved problem in other MMOs for years. Phasing, sharding, whatever you want to call it, the solution exists and SE simply failed to utilize it.

SE utilized it in 1.0 and it was horrible because you couldn't see more than 30 or so retainers at once in the market ward. It was creepy as heck for them to fade in and out as you walked down the hallway.

The maximum a zone could handle in FFXI was 700 or so. It's got to be at least that much in XIV.

The problem is players are AFKing in Golden Saucer so they don't have to leave thus causing the server congestion.. I see at least 5 people on my Friendslist who are AFK in Gold Saucer..

AFK Boot, problem solved

Im sure it will calm down in a few days and spread out.

As long as too many aren't rude enough to AFK in the saucer,that , they should monitor closely and activate a log out timer IF so.

I've been thinking this for a year or so....

On the Gold Saucer: I havent unlocked it, dont have to time until tomorow due to work, but I'm not surprised it congested as its launch day much like PvP was first few days.
And I think the AFK timer should be brought back anyway for open world and GS, to many people just ideling everywhere wasting resources :/

I'm not surprised that Gold Saucer is like this. I never learned to play Triple Triad and each time I try on online sites I fail 95% of the time.

I'll just get my weekly stuff done and crap. @_@

It's better than all player inside gold saucer. Ugh I can't imagine the horrible lag if it happen :(

This has crossed my mind too. A lot of people QQ to have the HIGHEST populated servers open to character creation 247, then they turn around and complain about this.

Yup exactly what I was going to say. I left gold saucer and logged off earlier. Now to get back i had to spam the airship person for 10 mins. Now im here and it looks like at least half the people here are AFK. Same thing happened when the game launched. People were so afraid if they logged out they wouldnt be able to log back in, so nobody logged out making the problem even worse. SE had to implement auto kick for afk to fix it.

A graphical render limit has absolutely nothing to do with phasing or sharding. It also has absolutely nothing to do with server load and congestion.

A que pop window would be helpful instead of spamming this crap at least if they're not going to AFK kick.

Duty finder pop for GS even. This is insane ;/

You know. A thing called instancing exists.

Heres a thought, what happens if you DF while in GS and then end DF, do you just get kicked offline after the duty ends ?

Needs to be a auto afk kick in place for those afk'ers in Gold Saucer. Maybe kick them back to where they teleported in from. Not fair for those that are trying to get into the Gold Saucer that want to play.

its feeling pretty laggy everywhere too.

AFK boot is required in golden saucer and add a queue to enter it when congested. The queue to enter area when congested is much much better than spam teleport or airship system to enter and cause stress on the server
