Is it worth to farm zodiac weapons? Returning player

Hello everyone!

1st of all, its been a while since my last post here on forums, I started playing again in december 2014 after a 9 months break...

Im at ilvl 112 atm and blm is my main job, wearing some ironwork accs, armor and demon gear from WoD.

Atm Im doing my 2nd book and Im wondering if it is really worth the time to finish a zodiac weapon, if you compare it to the coil/ironwork weapons...

Nowdays I have around 3 hours a day to play ffxiv, cuz of my classes and work, so Im divided if I should continue with this quest or just leave it as it is...

How much exactly it will cost me?
Do I have to lvl a craft job in the late weapon lvls?
I read that theres a chance to fail to add materia into the weapon at a certain stage of the quest, how bad is the fail rate and how exactly it works? Can I add weaker materias and update them later when I have more gil?

Well imo it is worth doing it. Tuesday it will either become i130 or i135, which will make it BiS or Second Best depending on melds/job.
You dont have to lvl craft jobs, if you ask around im sure you will find somebody that will craft it for you for just tips or for free.
Yes you can add weak materia and replace it later
and not sure on your server about price so inono how much it would take you to make

honestly imo its worth trying to complete atleast 1 since theres gonna be some kind of reward if you have completed it b4 heavensward is released

materia phase you can throw anything on and replace at later time if have the gil
zodiac phase u need some high level items think level 3 master crafting books (kinda over priced at market board)

Im mostly worried about the time used to finish it compared to other weapons.

just pace urself if have no luck or gettin irritated from not gettin the drops go do somethin else for a few hours then try again.. thats what i do gonna be even more stuff to help with that 2morrows XD problem for me is i wont be able to drag myself away from gold saucer long enough to farm the drops i need lol

Whether the relic is worth it to you- I cannot answer, but I can say with confidence that the ease of making a second or third relic is very noticeable once you have made your first, due to repeatable quest unlocks and other built-in advantages.

I got three dungeon atma left to get. I been at it 3 days almost 15 dungeons a day and not a single one of those last three.

I'm about to give up.

No. No it isn't worth it. Wasted months just so I can perform the very definition of insanity.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Could have been hanging out with friends or cleaning house or at work doing some overtime. But nope.. sitting here.. doing the same thing over.. and over..

With how close we are to the expansion, I would say no. I would just get a i110 weapon or i130 if they put the upgrade tokens in WoD.

50 aurum vale runs no drop for me.. will i give up?? no cause i actually enjoy somethin that you cant complete in a day or 2 and more satisfaction of completeing somethin that takes alot of effort

Hang in there. I thought the same thing with my Nirvana, and I can totally say 42 Lost city of Amdapor / 38 Sastasha / 12 Dzaemel Darkholds (The others were less than 10 runs) later that frustration directly equals how happy you'll be when it's done. You're close. Just remember all the work you've put in thusfar equals nothing if you give up now.

Other than glamour purposes I'd say it's not worth the effort when each step you complete just end up feeling "meh" when it comes to stats.

Let's also not forget the RNG and the amount of gil that'll be involved.

I was annoyed by my 35 tam tara runs. 50+ AV runs? Really? @.@

There will likely be a gear reset when the expansion comes out. It's up to you if you want to do 1 year and 6 months worth of grind for Relic now, only a few months before it will probably be replaced.

RNG is all based on time. If your luck sucks, try again in a few hours, luck sucks again? Try again in a few hours. Sometimes it just ain't gonna work at specific times. That is my secret to RNG in this game and I end up doing great. I mean I got 30 alex farmed in 12 hours (not 12 hours nonstop, 12 hours spread out over 3 days). When my luck is awful I stop doing fates and do soldiery farming for maps, return to fates again. I know some people who can only play the game at certain hours during the day and those hours happen to be the bad RNG hours... oh I feel sorry for them >_>

But really RNG based dungeon drops need to disappear in my humble opinion. If you have 16 dungeons to run and one dungeon can hold someone up for 15-20 hours or longer, you're just creating depression and burnout to any normal player while the masochists will be like "HELL YEAH LOST TIME!!11"

How much gil it would take to finish the weapon?

Is it worth it? That kind of depends on you. You certainly don't NEED a relic.

I'm a completionist, I wanted to have the experience of doing at least 1 relic (I've done 2 so far and will probably stop there). Doing relic, you get to experience all the quests, you get several achievements you wouldn't get otherwise, and you end up with a weapon that ranges from 3rd best to #1. Yoshi has indicated there will be some perk for relic owners after expansion. Maybe it's just a title, minion, mount, or some other piece of vanity. But you wouldn't get that if you didn't do relic.

So it really depends on whether any of that matters to you. Many people want gear in order to complete content and they think of content in terms of Coil turns or EX Primals but to a player like me even the fishing quests are content and I want to be wherever I need to be to do the next piece of related content. With that perspective, I couldn't just skip relic, whether it was a competitive piece of gear or not. But I realize this attitude is a little insane to some :)

Now is relic very time consuming? Yes. Are there more time efficient, less expensive options? Yes.

But remember, you can utilize those options and still work on your relic at a casual pace.

If you're concerned that you won't be able to get a comparable relic by the time expansion comes out, keep in mind that it is always more work to have something now vs. waiting. But the advantage is you get to make use of it now and it is only really special now. If you don't have a lot of time though and your primary concern is catching up gearwise before 3.0, maybe work on the rest of your gear first and backburner relic until you're in a more comfortable place (where you can play with friends, do the content you want to do, etc.)

As for cost. I did Accuracy and Parry on my Curtana and Shield for PLD. I don't remember exactly what it cost but all the steps together, probably 2-3m. My WAR relic was Crit/Det, pretty much the most expensive way you can go, at least on my server and it cost close to 20m (I had 14 failed tier 4 infusions...) How did I do it? I crafted and spiritbonded in Urth's Gift a LOT.

It is definitely achievable but it is very grindy and requires dedication. In the end, you're the only one who can know whether you have the drive to do it or the dedication to see it through. Good luck whatever you decide though.

FFXIV for me was a dream becoming true back in 2010 when 1.0 was released, but sadly I had a ton of work and study to do, so I didnt even tried the game when it was released, just played the beta for a few days =/

I'm a die hard ff fan, grind will never be a problem for me, and even with just a few hours to play everyday, I'll still keep doing my dailies/weeklies, farming tomes and doing my Relic books, fates, dungeons, hunts, etc! =D

Relic weapons are PURELY a self accomplishment goal at this point. If you don't have the absolute drive to see it to the end, you're going to suffer A LOT. You'll probably give up if that's the case. Even when they become BiS for some jobs, the question of it being worth getting is going to still have the same responses. If there's no further difficult content until expansion to make higher ilvl mandatory (which there won't be, at least as far as any of us know), a BiS equip is not going to matter beyond that same self accomplishment goal.

The relic quest is so daunting that no one can answer for you. The best they can do is give you their own experiences, but you have to take that as a grain of salt. In relation to it being time wise worth the effort compared to other weapons: NO! Everyone will agree on that one lol. But if you enjoy a self journey, then by all means, take a swing.
