I left for hiatus for some time and came back, seemingly going full force on my Relic (~last month or so). I finished the animus books and I've accumulated probably 10 or so Alex for my next relic upgrade, but I heard a rumor that the 2.0 relic is going to be replaced by a new one in 3.0.
So does that mean the 2.0 relic, e.g. the one that I'm working for, will not be upgraded further in 3.0? It will just be more-or-less a collectors item or glamour?

The expansion will see a new series released starting in 3.1. Yoshi did say that those who completed the current series would receive some kind of perk though; no details on what that is yet.

Here is my advice. Everything you get will be replaced at some point. So just do what you enjoy. I did my relic axe even though I had my 130 from coil (and of yesterday my 135 woo!) because I wanted to just accomplish it and maybe someday have something special.
In the end just do what you enjoy. Its about fun, and I'd say if you enjoy having a cool looking weapon at the very least just accomplish it! -

The interview that mentioned 3.1 specifically stated the next upgrade in 2.51 was the END of the current series. The 3.1 mention was discussing when they would introduce a new series. They even specifically mentioned offering a perk to compensate the players that finished the 2.x series relic... why would they offer this if it was continuing?Quote:

My issue is I have all this crit/det/acc materia waiting around for when i collect all my alex. I'm thinking I don't want to waste all those possible profits on a weapon I won't even be using. So I'm thinking about just using cheaper materia on this phase.

The problem with the current relic is that it can still be somewhat of an atrocious grind if you were a new player s tarting from step 1, especially pre-nerf. Things like Novus and Nexus, and zodiac always felt like the "final' step with its requirements, while atma was just atrocious for really no good reason. It's not as bad now with the nerfs, but the 75 material can still be a PITA depending on your econmy (and tryin to skip out on using non-optimal setups kinda defeats half the point of a relic in the first place).
If you were caught up as they were released, then it's not so bad; A lot of people wouldn't mind a step taking 2 months if it was the last one and highest it can go, but not so much when it's only the 2nd step (atma) or 4th set for a weapon that is outdone by a primal one (novus)
