Welcome to Playstation. Everything goes through their servers... EVERYTHING. Like it or not, that's how PS4 and PS3 rolls. It's part of the deal when you develop for the system, and the alternative is simply not releasing FFXIV on the console.

So... you can argue til yer blue in the face really. The ones you need to argue with are Sony.

Network features are hardcoded to PS4 OS. I don't think that SE can do anything about it. FFXIV wont be able to use the network features of PS4 unless they use the one from the OS. I'm sure SE have already done their best by not requiring PS+.
If you have concerns for PSN, I think you have to voice it out to Sony.

Like the others said, it's less to do with what Squeenix wants on the PS and more what Sony says they're allowed to do.

Ya SE has zero say in this. Blame Sony.

OP, I understand your frustration, but your complaint would be more appropriate on Sony's forums. Ultimately I don't think anything will come out of complaining. It's Sony's platform and they dictate the rules.

As a PS4 player I can definitely say that this complaint needs to be on the Sony forums. There's no use making a case against SE for this.

The fact is their a big company in sure they wont even listen Squar Enix is a big company too and they have customers who are tired of this you'd think after the ddos attack on christmas they'd be more aggressive with Sony to remove the requirement to a game that didn't even need a psn+ membership to play.

So you want a large company who's signed a contract with another large company to now go back and say "Well, actually we want to change the contract because some people on our forums are concerned"?

Somehow I don't see that happening.

It amazes me some people can't comprehend it's Sony they need to harass, not SE. Just simply amazing.

Because YOU chose to buy it on a platform that has it's own online sevice instead of a PC. That's between you and Sony. Not Square. It's Sony's required console policy and square can't change a thing about it.

Get buzz on what? Square-Enix can do nothing about PlayStation vulnerabilities & maintenance when it comes to PSN. You got the PC Master Race picture because you have to suffer a problem that PC users otherwise never see or have to worry about.

Regardless, even if SE had the power to do anything, a simple thread like this in an MMO forum wouldn't be the kickstarter to anything game changing.

It's the same as when people want to harass SE for their connection problems when it's a hangup with their internet provider. People just love to complain to the person bringing them a service, even when problems arise that are completely out of their hands.

I'm not blameing them per say I'm blaming that they could have this fixed easy but their doing nothing in a paying customer I have a right to complain if I'm not getting a service I pay for because it is on them to see that something is done we have yet to even hear if they are attempting to deal with Sony to remove this requirement or if their just going to do nothing they didn't even make a comment on the ddos attack in December or even give some sort of of compensation for people who couldn't even get in heck just give something to every one on a playstation or not because if one platform is down it didn't just affect them it affects the others even the PC people who have playstation users in their groups.

They had way over a year to do something but no word from them they didn't even comment on the people who couldn't get on because of the ddos attack in December if that wasn't enough of a reason for them to do something I don't know what is but if Sony's network goes down on Heavensward release day you know they not going to hear the end of it.

You are aware that Sony and SE are different companies?
Only option SE has is to quit playstation support.

I'm a paying customer, and my network is so bad lately that I have to use wtfast to play. I demand se to fix my network and redeem all my money that I have lost to wtfast to play this game.

Sony makes companies use their service. There is nothing for SquareEnix to "work out". The service that "you are paying for" that is having problems is not FFXIV or any system that SquareEnix has any measure of control over.

It's like yelling at Netflix when your movies aren't playing because your ISP is crap.

The only quick fix you're asking for is for SE to cut support of the Sony consoles. SE isn't dening you any service to play their game So that argument doesn't even work.

And it will be Sony that deals with it.

You're on their platform, so you have to deal with their idiosyncrasies. Notice PC players don't have to deal with enemies of Sony. Should Square and Microsoft sign a deal for FF14, then Square and Xbox users will probably have to abide by Xbox Live terms. There's no way around this.

anyone here who posted "PC Master-Race" has comparable intelligence to a Coblyn. The OP Started by saying "PC players don't post here" all of your posts, quite frankly, should be deleted.

That being said. I play on PS3, PS4, and 2 different PC's. Literally, two different platforms in each room of my small one bedroom apartment. (only one account) just I can game on whatever screen my g/f isn't using. This fact has kept me a little mroe up-to-date on some topics. . . and I'm going to support Square-Enix on this one.

As all of the posts before me have stated, Square-Enix has not been given a chocie, either use PSN or they wouldn't have been allowed to put it on PS3/PS4. HOWEVER - It could have been worse. From my understanding, Sony wanted all players of FFXIV to be forced onto Playstation Plus subscriptions. Since PS+/XBOXLive are really for services where Sony would be hositng servers etc, and Square is hosting these, (to my understanding) SE pushed back, since we're already paying the subscription cost which includes THEIR server maintenance. Only having a PSN requirement is much better than being forced into PS+

OK OK, I'm also a Playstation Plus subscriber. But not all of us are, and frankly, those of us who either pay for XBOX Live, or Playstation plus memberships, AND subscription fees to games like this, really get our days ruined when PSN/XBOXLive get hit by these DDOS attacks.

I've been tempted to log on here and start a thread "So, what do you do when PSN is down" thread for the PS players here,

I recommend you both repost this thread on Sony Forums. (Maybe edit your original post, linking in the post on Sony's forums) AND get some suggestions on what to do with yourself during maintenance.

Patching/Server maintenance/infrastructure upgrades are a part of modern technology.

What do I do? Clean the house, watch TV, Read a Book.

Or in this case, if there was maintenance last night, I didn't even know, I was playing a Serenity Table Top game :D

Side note, I'm pretty sure this is not a hard-coded requirement. I can't say for certain as I'm not currently testing this while PSN is down, but I thought the web browser still worked while PSN was under maintenance. It is a political game between Sony and gaming Studios where Sony is trying to force it's "features" onto as many studios as possible. I also would guess that by accepting the terms of PS+ etc is a staple requirement for indie developers as well, since both Sony and Microsoft boast that they are doing more to help indie developers on these consoles.

I wonder if they get paid/download. If they do, then they must love people like me n my g/f. We download everything that's free, regardless if we think it's good or not, just because it could end up being good. or in case a friend comes over and starts talking about it. both my PS3 n PS4 are sooo full of crap >.< lololol. yay for multiple Hard Drives.

Believe me in not trolling and yes I'm a little dense in such stuff I can admit it I know the service is good and they can't help it when out side sources attack them but with out a doubt the real problem is the down for maintenance during the middle of the day I live on the east coast 9am PST is 12pm for me why's it not done by time zones? And again the game license is all ready on the hard drive as well as the psn user info so again why do we need psn to check this info if it's all ready on our hard drive.

I put this because I'm tired of people just saying go PC or PC master race this that isn't what this is about they don't play on this platform so they sent as affected by this unless they have groups with people who do use psn for the game. So the people who just say go PC have no voice here.

Ask Sony. You know the guys who designed and built the console you're using? The ones who run the PSN. The ones who are in control over the entire issue which you're complaining so hard about. In order for companies to even release on a console there are various things they have to agree to, and one of those is any connectivity is via their Playstation Network.

I understand your frustration, as I've been there myself, but complaining to SE really won't get you anywhere.

Because that's sony's choice and their right as developer of the console and network service that you're using to gain access to SE.

That's what everyone is trying to tell you. Absolutely nothing wrong with anything SE is in control of, the issue is with the system you use to get to ffxiv, the PSN. And the PSN is owned by sony. Want to complain about your inability to get to ffxiv? Complain to sony.

Because OP is someone that doesn't understand how console gaming process works... "I have a flat tire and can't use my car right away, so fix my engine!" :P

As others have already stated, you're barking up the wrong tree. There is nothing; NOTHING, that Square can do about this except tell Sony that their pulling support for the product off the PS3 and PS4. And I'm willing to bet that getting into a pissing match with Sony, is something that Square wants to avoid.

You need to go bark at Sony, not Square-Enix.

This is literally like calling NBC or FOX to complain when my cable goes out. OP how many times does it have to be said? Square Enix has -NOTHING- to do with your problem. YOU chose the platform you're playing on, YOU agreed to it...even if you didn't read the fine print, which you didn't. Sony decided to do this, not SE. Frankly I doubt SE even cares, most people go into this kind of thing informed...

Oh and while complaining to Sony, you might want to keep in mind that if it is a ddos attack on their network that's causing them problems, they really aren't to blame either.

A ddos attack is laughably simple compared to defending against it.

Lol. Sorry, you posted a thread in a public forum. That means you don't get to say who is allowed to post and who isn't. In any case, blame Sony. It's actually in their ToS that they are the provider of all of your games and services. This is Sony's requirement, not Square Enix's. This thread would be a little more at home in Sony's forums.

Like everyone else has already said this is because Sonys network is utter dog poop, square enix doesn't control that.

What I can say is that in the past when PSN maintenance has been scheduled if I stayed logged Into the game when maintenance started I could still play and didn't get kicked out even during maintenance.

I own both a PS4 and PC copy of the game. I play 98% of the time on PC but I have in the past been able to keep playing on a PS4 through maintenance windows as long as I was connected to FF 14 and in the game world before maintenance started.
