A new skill! 20 sec job change! Idea.

So here's a idea, A new special ability that allows us to switch to a similar Job role for let's just say 20 secs during battles. This allows us to have more starts and options for people to do in game but to stop it from being too OP job switch is restricted to what job you can switch to. so:

PLD can swap to WAR's for 20 sec *vice versa* so can do some WAR combo's.

WHM <-> SCH

MNK <-> DRG

NIN <-> BRD

or a Melee DPS class can switch to another Melee DPS class.

Also once used all status effects will be removed from gained 2nd job I.E you poped HG before reverting back to WAR so HG will be lost as soon as change back.

And it will be on a CD of course, say 2mins?

yeah no, alot of dungeons are becoming tank and spank already this would just finalize the nail in that coffin

There's a reason why we can't just change jobs mid battle (which would be the simplest option to implement this): it would be impossible to balance a fight around this. You can already see how much going against the 2/2/4 recommendation can change the way a battle goes. Being able to switch, even momentarily to 8 DPS for a last burst down or 1 Tank/7 Healers to counter high damage phases, would just break certain encounters.

Even with a cool down on it (and 2 minutes would be way too short for this kind of brokenness), you'd still use it almost like a second limit break that you have total control over using, to make specific points of a fight incredibly trivial.

Another big downside is that this would require a player to have that other job at lv50 and they may not have any desire to do that beyond leveling them to get the key abilities needed. Whilst the game encourages you to level up multiple classes, it does not force you to level them all to max level. I can think of a lot of players who would hate the game for this kind of system. And then you'd have to consider the requirements that players would set for groups. "Oh, you only have WHM and not SCH? Then you can't be in this party."

Then it can be simply edited changed to be balanced out. Not sure why your saying the whole party can change to DPS when I put

PLD <-> War. Sticking it to Roles only would sort out the issue of everyone being a DPS class.

Having the 2nd Job to 50 could be sorted out if you just need to get 1 Role to 50 and you choose any or set Roles to change into.
Granted if that person hasn't gotten the other Job to LV50 yet they might not know how to handle it correctly but I think if we give them the option of being that class at LV50 only outside battle etc they can use it on training dummies. Or something we can sort out.

Cool Down wise just increase it to a more suitable time, 11mins aprox boss fights? 5mins then, can use it twice.

Just another heads up as people seemed to missed this, Setting it so you can switch Role to the same Role only would solve the 8 DPS/Healer problem. I.E Tank jobs can only switch to another Tank job.

For the loot issue can only be rolled on your base Job as you entered it in.

Either you replied after my reply or misread my post it's Same role only.

So a DPS can't switch to a Tank Role or a Tank Role switch to a healer role.

This would basically make everyone required to level and gear all other jobs to participate in endgame or else they would be at a huge disadvantage. Not a fan of that at all.

You missed a huge oversight OP; cooldowns. Anytime you swap jobs outside of sanctuaries, you have to wait for your cooldowns to finish. All you're doing is crippling yourself in the middle of a fight if you could swap jobs right there and then. The devs put in such a system on purpose so that people can't cheese fights.

It is pointless to change melees for others for a reason, as mnk you lose GL3 and other buffs by switching for other melees. There is no gain in changing. Same apply to others. As ranged you don't have much choice and healers and tanks too. And to not talk about the few seconds you lose by changing and waiting for cooldowns get operational, even if that worked like being in town you would lose some time to activate your buffs to do just to do 2-3 moves and revert back to the main job. I bet you didn't think about that.

And other thing would be a flashfest of changing gear and jobs during the fight which looks dumb. The way I see is the same as the lame gear swap of ffxi.

Well if I did I would have put that down. Called a oversight. It happens. But of course everyone is gonna have problems with ideas but all feed back is welcome.

Buffs wise they could be kept, so if your a MNK you can change to a DRG to get buffs from that Job then after 20 secs if you applied them again still have them on.

So thinking about it they could actually be some use of changing Roles. BLM -> SMN use dots as a SMN then revert back, SMN -> SMN low on MP? Change to Black Mage to gain back MP.

Also if some jobs are to OP when combined together could put restrictions on certain skills then 2nd Job could use.

Changing wise, it could just be Weapon since most classes share gear anyway.

I already came up with a suggestion on this, once you get a Role say, PLD to LV50 you could switch to the WAR Role even if you don't have it unlocked.

Could implant something that allows you to be that role for a few mins to set up your hotbar and get used to the skills.

Non-caster dps do not share gear with each other. Nor are stats itemizized to allow free switching between bard and DRG/MNK.

A big concern in MMOs is keeping each job feeling unique, as variety is something that keeps things interesting and keeps people playing. I feel like your suggestion works counter to that in the biggest possible way. If for nothing else, I think the job homogenization that it would bring makes it a bad idea.

There's nothing simple about balancing anything.
The mere idea of what you're asking would basically break the game.
You'd have twitch gamers exploiting the hell out of this, as even with a 5 minute cooldown you'd basically have ALL OF THE CLASSES DPSing down the same boss. You're basically giving every class a second set of their unique cooldowns and taking away a LOT of the challenge from the game. Every single raid team would be: BRD/NIN, MNK/DRG, WAR/PLD, WAR/PLD, SMN/BLM, WHM/SCH, WHM/SCH.
And in order to add challenge they'd need to completely redo the way the game's encounters work. Oh, and if you want to add new classes, you need to add new pairs for them! Once heavensward hits, there will be an odd number of all the roles. How do you handle that?
And even if they DID add it, the testing team would have their heads on a platter because they'd have to double the amount of testing on every fight. Maybe even triple or quadruple.
They purposefully removed the ability to switch jobs in dungeons. They ain't putting it back.

If New class's are added they can be mixed with other class's. SO when Ast comes out it can change to SCH or WHM so that's problem done.

Testing it if we hold back on some things the 2nd job can do it wont be that OP if that's what your worried about.

Challenge wise could implant it around it being needed or nerf the skill so it wont make much difference but still a noticeable one.

I'm going to say no. But I think changing job not role in a dungeon at landing would be cool like in frontline.

There has been a few times I queued as SCH and meant WHM or BRD and MNK.

Even if you could magically play another class you don't have leveled, what about people who just don't WANT to switch? I don't particularly like to play as pugilist/monk, but what if I try to queue up for something, but everyone says "okay you HAVE to play as this role now or gtfo".

There's, like, a reason I don't play roles I don't like.

Besides, just because you CAN switch roles doesn't mean you're good at it. I can go in as SCH and then switch to WHM but that doesn't change the fact that I suck on WHM and am pretty good at SCH.

MNK, NIN, and DRG all have seperate gear. So you would need to gear up twice. Brd would swap with what? Only shares right side accs with NIN. Also you would need to gear up twice. GJ doing that with weekly lockouts and everyone needing for all the drops...

Greased Lightning, major buff for MNK and losing it to switch to another job that isn't as effective? Pointless. SCH >WHM? there are so many ways that would trivialize so much, 2xbenedictions plus potential 12 aetherflows to use? Double sacred soil +fey covenant+ rotation of fey illumination+double medica 2 would trivialize anything.

Not to mention Hallowed ground and Holmgang and coverphase 4 turn 13, PLD covers and covers WAR, 2nd ankh morn, switch jobs WAR now PLD covers other and hallows. 3rd ankh WAR holgangs, PLD got all CDs up. 4th ank other tank holmgangss. You are guaranteed at least 1 immortal tank for Ankh Morn thus trivializing it to pointless.

No thanks. As others have already said this would become a balancing nightmare.

As for personal reason. I play Nin because I like Nin, not because I want to play Nin and some other class that's being forced on me.

I'm all for switching during dungeons, as long as it's done out of fight. Switching during combat is silly and I don't even want to try to imagine how much work it would be to fit content around it.

Only way I would agree with that is if tank or healer DCs and one of the DPS is able to switch as a few times tank has DCd (or rage quit) and ive dropped out, switched to tank and requed in progress. Otherwise it will be like 1.0 again, BLM for the trash, MNK for the boss. If you don't have both geared or don't want to switch /votekick.

This would still trivialize roles. The only classes it actually works for are tanks, healers, and DPS casters, as they share gear. And in those cases, you have this insanity:
For tanks: You get access to holmgang AND Tempered will AND hallowed ground.
For healers: Benediction, Lustrate, Succor, the pet, regen...all in one package.
For casters: Do you have any idea how broken it would be to start as BLM, burn all your MP, switch to SMN, aetherflow back a significant amount of MP, Life drain 3x, throw out all the DoTs, summon Garuda to contagion, and switch back to blasting? You're effectively giving a spike DPS class DoT DPS. Oh, and why level summoner if you can do this?

This is an absolute nightmare to implement and balance. Anyone who suggested this to the actual dev team would not be invited out to drinks that night (the Japan equivalent of being laughed out of the room)
