I'm hoping for a giant lion look this time around. The FFXI version was alright, if a bit of a ladyboy.
Well, the fact that female miqote looks like a asian girl human with cat ears, I can already predict the male version. Basically, male asian-look with... long cat ears.
Something like this is what I had in mind: http://i36.tinypic.com/dq6vpd.jpg
Well, Keeper of the Moon, being based on original mithra, might have a "Michael Jackson" wannabe male. like Lehko Hakoba.
I wish seeker of Sun had a furry male tho...like thundercats! =P

That's a Japanese male with short Leopard ears!
Those images are too "Perfect World"ish for my taste. i'd rather havving Lehko + Thundercats lol
I agree with Lien most of all.
(New) Thundercats Hoooo!!
Lor' but I hope they look similar to female Miqo'te..
I have had it up to here with MMO feline races having the females all slender and kemonomimi and the males being bloody great, over-muscled barely-anthropomorphs -.- Certainly if they did that it'd kill the not insignificant interest I have in making a boy Miqo'te..
And beyond that, wouldn't it be nice if for once, just for once, an MMO had an effeminate male side to a race? FF XI doesn't count, of course, since they weren't playable. Their rarity was interesting of course, but.. wouldn't count to that end.
But yeah no massive beastman things please, not when the females are as they are -.-
I hope they make male miqotes look more like a highlander male than some skinny girly-boy. Make them manly and feral looking. But not over the top beastly lol.
No, not really. There's a difference between 'not all that masculine' and 'effeminate', and that's not even getting into the obsession of Western AAA titles with might-be-abusing-steroids-or-worse male characters
In fact, you know what .. to be blunt, in this case, I mean downright girly. That's not something I've seen even in MMORPG's originating in the East; not as playables, anyway.
Not that I'm saying I'd want that in a race, as such. I'd sooner prefer that as just.. being possible in character creation/customisation. But hey, a race themed so would be a step in the right direction, and even then, an entire race/racial gender so-themed wouldn't be completely without merits over open customisation.
http://goo.gl/8FWJc forgetting someone? well not actually cat male so might not count....
http://goo.gl/5GtVI oh wait this is a dog...
Pretty sure the females of at least the first example's race were rather similar in build and appearance.
Also, I 'counter' with...
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...lda_visual.jpg - Milda
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__.../21/Darlin.gif - Milda's husband.
Same race, I do not kid. Fairly old though Grandia may be, I'm pretty sure Lanians were a spoof of 'slender women beastly men' despite how young.. or at least how non-all-consuming - the trope must have been back then.
Oh and just to point out, because I'm pretty sure it wasn't absolutely clear in my earlier posts, I'm making two, seperate arguments:
- I, personally, am of the opinion that having one gender of a race look elegant and pretty, and the other look like they escaped from the muscle-fetish arm of the furry community, is rather silly, and vastly overused. This isn't concerned about which gender is in which role.
- I think it would be unique, and fun, were an MMO to for once allow a male character to be genuinely feminine and/or downright girly to the point of confusion; not just not-a-muscle-monster, handsome, or even occasionally just-a-tiny-bit-on-the-pretty-side.
I am not ragging on the overabundance of massively-muscled men in the MMO genre .. at least that isn't the point in this post, though I'm sure you've picked up on my distaste for that (though were it a serious quibble I'd be ranting about Roegadyn, wouldn't I?). My problem, for the purposes of this post, is the regularity with which developers, when including a race that is in some way anthropomorphic in their work, feel compelled to make one gender slender and/or beautiful, and the other hyper-masculine.
I don't even find the idea of it too bothersome in and of itself, I just think it's hugely over-prevalent in the genre, and further, do not believe Miqo'te would benefit from being yet another to subscribe to the trend. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they stand to get a lot more mileage out of being one of the only races in an MMO in a long time (to my knowledge), and especially in the mainstream of the present moment, to be anthropomorphic and have their males and females strongly comparable in appearance.
Fair enough. I did love my enormous Tauren in WoW, though.
I would actually prefer Miqo'te to be more athletic in appearance (visible abs, some biceps and more defined thigh musculature would go a long way), more animalistic in mannerism and more savage in behaviour, but I suppose it's too late to ask for that now. They kind of took the FFXI Mithra and instead of further emphasizing the feline side, they toned it down and made them more human, which I find disappointing.
If there is a game that will make your wish come true, though, it very well could be FFXIV simply because the Japanese have a very different idea of what an attractive man looks like. I swear all those women are actually confused lesbians.
You know I was so very tempted to mention the bishounen fashion trend providing a possible 'market' for such characters..
Anyway, I'm presently being irritated by a drunken family, so I'll not get into a complex reply. Suffice to say good points and all (and not all that far from what I was getting at.. in some ways, though it does look like we wouldn't wholly agree), I've stuck a /Like on your post.
This is fine thanks.

By a Japanese female author~ Btw, the anime theme was composed by *coughs* Nobuo Uematsu *coughs*. They should totally have them as Miqo'te theme~Quote:

He rocks. Make 'em Male Miqo'te like him, or at least make him an NPC, say, King of Miqo'te (basically, you know, like Ant Queen, make babies...)
Indeedy... Give us male miqo'te and female highland hyur's and Roegadyn to boot.
No really.
They wanna set apart the game from FFXI. So give us male and female of all races and that will certainly set it apart (at last as a start). Besides, there is no real reason as to why the two female versions of the Highland Hyur and Roegadyn have to be these nightmarish, butch, women.
Plenty of other games have a lot of not conventionally attractive women- WoW and LOTRO to name a couple have midgets and dwarves.
Still, if looks is what it's about then it's really not that difficult to make Highland Hyur women and Roegadyn attractive.
But I agree, we need male miqo'te (as well as the other two I mentioned).
=D
Edit:
The male/female aspects of these races do need to reflect each other in some ways. <--- can't stress this enough!!
Looking at FFXI's Lehko Hakoba as a placeholder for a male miqo'te is a good estimate.
Personally, I think that, if the player wants to be beefy like a Highlander Hyur, the player should have the option to change the build so it has more muscle structure, or make it be more slender, or even fat. Yes, I said. fat. Deal with it folks. Even if the end result isn't like a Highlander Hyur the point is you have that option.
Then again, the option to change the build (properly -_- ) should have been in the game when it launched, regardless of what Japanese perceive as attractive. (They had no problem making the Highland Hyur and Not-Galka, I mean Roegadyn)
You mean King?
This too.
All i have to say is i hope yoshi watches thundercats, that is all.
Uh...have we all forgotten about this image?

99.9% sure it'll look like this.
There was a line of videos SE put out before the game was released called "The Making of a Realm". This image was in the third video here:
