Misunderstanding Skill Speed

First of all. I am no genuine theorycrafter or such. I don't have the maths and tests to provide you about my statement. All I have is the experience I play with the game.

Skill Speed.

Most of us think the Skill Speed is designed to make our swings faster but it only provides very little speed. Thinking that the faster we swing, the more DPS we provide. But you need more than a lot of swings to make that happen even if you have 2.39 GCD of swings. Most likely, we run out of TP.

My opinion to Skill Speed is, reaction to certain mechanic. It provides very little second allotment to react to stun(Shield Bash) or mitigate(Inner Beast)

I noticed that monsters also have GCD too. Same with us, with that said, giving a very little second to react is huge, especially on clutch moments.

For example, you want to use Inner Beast before Nael cast Ravensbeak. You have good skill speed to execute your mitigation. Which is good.

What are your thoughts?

The problem here is that every fight is entirely choreographed. You know EXACTLY when that Ravensbeak is coming. You should be prepared for it. If you aren't sure of the timing, ask somebody, look it up, or record your gameplay footage and figure it out yourself.

IN THE FUTURE, if we get more randomized fights, Skill Speed may be more useful. For example, if Ravensbeak were used randomly within 20 to 40 seconds of it going off cooldown, we may want to have more Skill Speed so that we can use Inner Beast with regards to a full GCD being in effect at the start of the cast. But that is not the case now.

What Leo said its all rotation based. Its same for (healers) spellspeed I know by default when to apply my adlo/stoneskin as i learned the rotation. All I can say I actually noticed a lil more time i have for dpsing as my spellspeed increased a lil from first time T9 (i102 iirc) to now (OP i116/117). But basically skillspeed/spellspeed are for most classes rather useless except to push a lil more when you use your burst cds (war esp here on berserk).

my friend has a 2.3x gcd and I have a 2.5 gcd, the speed at which he runs out of tp is staggering tbh.

As for the practical usages of it, I see little benefit really. This is far different for BLM who castbar and then swing, as opposed to physical dps with insta hits.

I used to be obsessed with skill speed, and sacrificed STR and Determination for it. I got my gcd down to 2.36 and found it less fun wating on TP, on long fights. I'm obsessed with STR now, have faster fights, TP seems to last much longer, and a single strike holds aggro better.

Skill speed? It's an afterthought anymore, for me.

On a related note, it's important to at least get to the 376 Skill Speed breakpoint for 9 attacks during Berserk.

It's funny, in ffxi a haste build was incredible cause you used auto attacks to BUILD tp, haste made you auto attack faster so you built tp faster for more weaponskills.
In ffxiv it's the exact opposite, skill speed builds are awful cause they waste your tp faster meaning less weaponskills and has no effect on auto attacks.

Yes! I find it so awkward that we just start with TP @ a set amount instead of building it up. I am hoping that they change skill/spell speed to HASTE! Along with a plethora of other useful stats such as:
Cure % / Regen +5
Double/Triple Attacks
Haste (Using the below example this would now increase auto-attack speed for DPS & Spell Casting / Recast times for Mages)

My hope is that the GCD is removed and we revert to actually building our TP for attacks. All major buffs and such will remain on a GCD to avoid the obvious.

Naaaaaaaaaaaaah. Wouldn't work in this game.

Make it increase animation speed so I can feel like Mario with the hammer.

Really though, Skill/Spell Speed would be far more useful if it effected DoTs and HoTs. We'd still just aim for certain breakpoints to get that extra tick, sure, but it would be far more appealing to see gear with Speed on it than it is right now.

One thing people aren't talking a lot about with skill speed, is that "running out of tp" is not its only detriment.

In situations where TP is a complete non-issue skillspeed is still a bad stat compared to crit or det. It just simply doesn't boost your dps as much as those do even well before you run into the TP problems it gives.
