Lack of Coil static? Hmmm!

I'm surprised that there has been an increase of players looking for a static for FCoB. Many statics began with the first coil. What happened?

In any case, I'd imagine finding a static for FCoB would be difficult now, considering those who ARE on farm are pretty much sticking with their group, and those not on FCoB are sitting at T9.

I see groups recruiting every day, some for advanced turns in TFCoB (12+) and others newly forming.

There's no reason to start with first coil at this point. Anything but T5 is consistently oneshot in duty finder, T6-T8 also largely a waste of a static's raid time at this point since the gear is largely obsolete due to poetics gear and world of darkness drops, not to mention duty finder groups also clear these turns every so often. I personally cleared T6-8 before ever stepping into T1 and T2 (back when second coil was on lockout) and only recently saw T3, it was shortly before clearing T12 I believe. Statics start on T9 because it's the first piece of content that requires coordination beyond what you find in duty finder.

You're also practically answering your own question here. You say that there are many people looking for a static but only few groups recruiting, but that's the exact situation that results in new statics forming. There shouldn't be a shortage of groups if there is a demand.

Most are lazy and prefer to put there energy into complaining they can't find a static than actively creating a static if they can't find one. If there are "many people looking for a static" like OP claims, then it only takes one of them to start one. Then recruit from all of those looking ^_^

But as I said, people are lazy.

Also, it doesn't hurt to run t5 and then t9 a few times to get practice running together on easier content before jumping into FCoB. As I did on my SCH alt, got somme practice and experience in with CoB and SCoB before attempting t10, even tho I'm already on t13 with my main.

Being an off-prime time player of Behemoth server (Aus/Nz here), it is a nightmare to find, either a static or people to form a static.

Sometimes, living in the other part of the world is a very very huge advantages, not being lazy, mind you.

First Coil is easily DFable with a wait time and Second Coil is up to T9 now. If DF isn't working, clear PFs are often successful for anything <T8.

Players seek statics for Final Coil because it is the only way to experience the content on most servers. More players are also looking for statics because more players have 'capped out' their poetics gear and suchforth, and have no other ways to progress their main job.

Statics don't spontaneously form because they don't just require 8 players; they require 8 players of synergistic mindsets and playstyles in the same time zone to function well and a leader or leaders to coordinate and document their play times and handle recruitment of new players.

Grabbing 7 other random people in the coil hangout spot with the same wants doesn't mean it'll work out. There's the schedule issue. You can find people who can coil on the same DAY but those very same people might have clashing hours. Recent example of mine: My group coils for 2 hours a day, 4 days a week and we've been dwelling on t12 for more than a month now. We lost two weeks because someone had something he needed to attend to. Then this week I had to miss 2 days. Naturally everyone is getting antsy (so was I). I tried to compromise and asked the group if we can go earlier than the scheduled time. Some was okay with that, some was not. Then I asked if we can move it forward by a day or two instead. This time the people who are okay/not okay with the first suggestion got reversed. So yeah, scheduling is a major hurdle.

Then there's the attitude factor. All 8 people need to get along with the group as a whole at least. Let me tell you, I've only had 2 statics since arr launch but I've had at least 6 versions of the 2nd static and went through so many players who came and go. Some of them are just down right whack. One of them got invited to start coiling with us and on the first day, in the middle of t6 re-training, went afk after a wipe without saying anything and after 15 mins of waiting, he finally responded and revealed that he's preparing dinner for family members and refused to stop and just made 7 other people stand in front of the boss while he continues preparing dinner (why didnt he even say anything before we start). Then there's someone who wasn't doing very well AND making racist remarks non stop. At first we just wrote it off just as vulgar jokes but it just kept intensifying and his performance got worse too. He left stomping off after we left him out of the group, thinking that everyone is out to get him and blaming their mistakes only on him, before wishing death on someone who isnt even in the fc's static (said person has a serious illness).

Then there's people who got helped through t5 because we wanted to bring them into our scob group (they resubbed after stopping 1 month before scob release). They were behind, soldiery wise and decided to change jobs for coil, which we accomodated to. After the original job spot owner moved to another job, we found out that they didnt want to spend soldiery on their new jobs because they think they'll be able to rely on the 'cool' scob gear despite being like 4 months late to scob and starting from scratch and would rather pour soldiery on to another class they were not going to take too coil. Like...what?! What's worse, these new to the group people told us that they needed a week or two to sort out irl issues but after said time was up, they just never logged back in..

That's not even everything for my scob season ordeal. At least the latest version of my static only has scheduling issues so far. 1st t12 win like 4 hours ago after 3-4 weeks of delays one way or another!

Yes, everyone but you is lazy. That's the only reason people haven't beat fcob. /s
And then there's people like myself, who doesn't give a crap about coil, at all. I don't want or need the headache involved with such content, period. That's not laziness, that's common sense keeping my sanity.

Some people keep saying the same things over and over, it doesn't make it any more true though. Just because you have a static, doesn't mean everyone can easily find one. Wear someone's else shoes for a bit and see how bad the community can be outside of your click.

Let's be real here. Coil isn't worth the headache. I quit complaining about accessing it many months ago and gave up on that content. It's not worth my time. The gear is ugly, the fights are too hard to find 7 other competent players, and even when you do that, you're spending weeks on the same fights for the same ugly gear, that's only good for coil itself; will be outdated in a few weeks.

You guys told us to just youtube the story, so I did. Why would I want to do it, when the story is all I cared about?

Do you think it's worth the headache to a person like myself? I'm 36 years old. I have real bills, real life things to take care of, and a real job that takes priority over this game everyday. Sure, most days I sign online for an hour or more to have fun doing the things I want to do in DF. Playing a game isn't a job, nor should it be.

This whole us vs them crap should stop now. Some of the same people that cry out "don't reward laziness" are only playing this game. This isn't the only game I care to play, and when things get too stressful in this game, I go to another one that is less stressful, and actually fun to play. Fun, think about that word for a bit, then think about coil. Are you honestly telling me that coil is fun for yourself? I wouldn't believe you even if you said yes. I watch these people stream and fail over and over and over and over again. Sure looks "fun" to me /s, the literal face-palms, the anxiety, and the cursing over mistakes so numerous I couldn't even begin counting how many I've viewed... Next some of ya'll will be telling me that banging your head against a concrete wall is fun, and will defend that activity as being worthwhile, lol. Well, once again I'll rely on youtube to experience such actions instead of partaking in them, lol.

I've seen the story, on youtube, like you guys told me to do. That's all I cared about regarding coil. I guess I should say thanks for the tip. It saved quite a bit of my time already, (and head injuries).

I'll leave this conversation before your fangs come out for blood. You'll defend it til the bitter end, I'm sure, all 2168 of you, lol. That's about the number of people doing fcob atm, worldwide according to achievements.

I didn't magically make a Static appear, I activelly went out there, joined an FC proved my worth and got asked to join. Those I played with in 1.0 didn't come back for 2.0 also I started anew on a fresh server with 2.0. I thought new game, new start so I didn't know anyone on the server whatsoever. Took me about 6 months to find, but didn't give up or complain during that time either. Now been with this static since then.

It's a fact, MOST are lazy, why do you think so many go for the path of least resistance every time they can XD

Agree it does take trial and error, but it also requires one or more people to step forwards and take that initiative also. Which, as is shown with how many aren't willing to do even that when it comes to tanking, most won't. Not to mention, it does not have to be just one person taking full responsibility to organise and recruit. Everyone can help. Same with FCs, leaving everything on the shoulders of the FC leader, can be too much for one person and takes away the fun of it being a game. Everyone, whether it is a static or an FC can do their part to share in the responsibilites.

Spent almost 5 months trying to help build a static for scob to clear t9. Formed a final static around vegas fanfest with people who we helped cleared turn5 a few weeks before that. Trained with them hard and cleared t9 1 week before echo kicks in. Then many weeks later we start helping the rest of our small fc get thru t9 by swapping out one of our static for one of the players needing help and we trained with them until they win (sometimes we rode the battle to the end despite what happens to them). Technically they have the best advantage they need. Six to seven people who are competent and knows their role. All the df and pf dilemma is gone.

The reactions and feelings that they showed for their first win and the ones showed by the static and me for our first win is like heaven and earth. Congrats being doled out and silence to let the helped member watch cutscenes and people running out of instance before he finishes cutscene versus peopel being hysterical and cheering and running about int the arena and taking group photos and immediate discussion about the revealed story and ooh aahing about what weapon dropped etc. I got helped through t5 by 7 expd people at 5 percent echo btw so ive been on both sides.

So...yes? Achieving victory with people you know aftersome hardship is fun?

I quit coil shortly after clearing t8 several months ago because it got too frustrating having to pug people to replace static members that couldn't make it, or having to find new members when someone left the static / wasn't a good fit. It's not fun trying to progress through content but having different people in your group every week, so I stopped trying. If that's lazy to you, then fine, but I went through a lot more than six months of this experience. I've had four coil groups now since 2.0, and they've all had huge issues with scheduling.

MMORPG players are generally older now, and it's tough to get 8 people that can spend the same 2+ days together every week for 3+ hours in one sitting. It's obviously not impossible, but the struggle in finding 7 other people compatible to you in personality, play style, and scheduling is just not worth the effort for everyone.

I'm hoping the normal mode for Alexander will be more of the type of thing I can just grab a few friends and some randoms and tackle without the high level of stress with playing group jump rope. I'm sure there will still be some challenge involved, but trying to get through t7 (pre-nerf) with 1-2 pugged players at different comfort levels than my static was just unbelievably frustrating.

At least you tried, unlike many. Also we never pug, if someone can't make it for RL reasons, we don't run that night, we do other stuff. Maybe farm t9 a bit more for alts/alt jobs. Or help FC members get their coil/primals clear. Or do crazy stuff like 8 BLM pratorium XD

I would love to join a static. I was doing turn 5 during 2.0-2.1 but work picked up a lot and my schedule is all whacked. Stuck doing pickup groups for t9 now whenever I manage to be on. >.<

That's quite an imagination you have there. I got my t9 clear in pf, and am now 1 shoting t10 and 11 weekly with my static which formed for fcob while we work on t12. We raid like 2-6 hrs per week, just casually getting through it. You have a grossly exagerated idea of what it takes to down a piece of scripted content. Technically, you watch a video, wipe a few times, make progress, repeat. It's not hard.

Building the static is harder than coil ever will be. We had a lot of leavers, and replaced some people. But again, not hard.

Agreed wholeheartedly. After a long break from coil, I got into a group of FC members I'm very familiar with, and we raid pretty casually one day a week, now making steady progress on turn 9. Before that group, I struggled to find competent members that would even show up on raid days, halting coil progress entirely. All you need is to get a reliable group of folks together, for a little while each week, (though this is harder than it seems), and if you can manage that, you can raid. Don't give up, I have a blast wiping over and over again with my buds now that we're together!

I find Coil fun now, and it only started with Second coil. I started BCOB merely for the story (and this is what still interests me the most), and I had to force myself to get past t5 because I absolutely hated t1-4 and 5 was too frustrating until I found the group of people I play with now. Then I enterted t6 feeling rather meh about raiding in general and instead I had so much fun. T6 is still my favourite turn, I could farm it for days and I hate farming! In 2 days I'll be stepping into T10 for the first time and I can't wait. I don't even care much about the gear, and I glamour everythig anyway. If I'm geared enough to progress that's good enough for me even if it isn't the best.

That's why you find a group of people you are comfortable with. You make mistakes and you keep wiping but you can laugh it off and joke about it and the frustration and anxiety goes away. Not saying it's easy to find a group, it took me a while to find one and I have way less responsability than you, but there are people roughly your age or older who can still do that. It's not easy sometimes but it's not impossible either! If you ever feel like giving Coil a second chance, it may take some time but when you find the right group of people everything will be a lot more enjoyable.

I'm not sure how normal Alexander will be. If they tune it to normal Coil levels then I wouldn't count on it being easily puggable, seeing as how they stated that Alexander HM is going to be even harder than SCoB Savage is and it looks like they're making it so raiders will have to gear up via normal mode first before tackling HM.

Also, normal mode Alexander will apparently have lower level ilvl gear as rewards compared to HM Alexander.

Not everyone who declines to participate in Coil is lazy.

Some players who spam "LF Static" without making attempts to initiate one when that fails are lazy.

Personally I find Coil to be worth doing because I have fun doing it. The background is great (e.g. T11 pre-fight section is pretty epic in scope), the fights are entertaining, and I don't mind the requirement of group learning and coordination since most other content in the game is extremely forgiving in that regard.

I work 40+ hours a week and have other interests, but raiding for an hour or two a couple nights a week isn't a huge burden on my time and is sufficient for progressing. Minimal drama in my group; it's more about helping people correct what's wrong and play better than yelling at them or getting ready to replace them after a couple of mistakes.

I can't think of a single day in the past few months that I haven't seen multiple recruitment PF's up. Lots of statics are seeking replacements for people that didn't work out, and lots of players are seeking statics. I got really lucky that my SCoB stayed together for FCoB, minus a couple of members that didn't work out and were just recently replaced (they are friends so nobody wanted to do the deed). Previously, we'd struggle for several weeks to get through a turn because of people just not paying attention to the mechanics. Now that they've been replaced, we downed T10 within a couple of days, and then T11 within a week of the first time we entered the turn.

I guess my point is, even established statics might need someone. If that static happens to be on T10, they may be willing to help get a T9 clear. Hell my current static helped me and an FC mate clear T5 so we could join for SCoB.

Fun is subjective; it'll vary between player to player. Even if you do take the initiative in starting a static, there's the matter of keeping it together. I started one back in november (starting on T7). We've ran into numerous issues, including healers bailing out on us, tanks no-showing and dropping our of our static because they were looking for multiple ones (and lockouts existed during this time), and christmas hiatus.

That being said, when you do find 7 other like-minded players, raid content can be enjoyable, and there's nothing like the ecstasy of clearing content for the first time. On the other hand though, it's just not worth the headache of finding those 7-like minded people, and that just gets harder to do so as FCoB gets gated behind T5 and T9 (picking up someone that's on T11+ but not in a static, or getting someone up to speed and pray they will commit afterwards.)

Believe what you want, but I find coil very fun. I look forward to every reset so i can run them again. The fact that the fights are more challenging than any other content is a big part of that. I like that doing coil taught me to be a better player. I like having different clothing options.

But i think the thing i love most about doing coil is group-learning with a static tbh. Obviously, this may vary from static to static, but in the statics I've been a part of, pressure to perform is always in a very good place. There's enough of it there that people try their best, but at the same time, everyone understands that the group is learning together. Mistakes happen. Wipes happen (lots of them). Until suddenly they don't. Things just click in a really wonderful way, and the feeling of accomplishment after that first win (and often several wins after) is awesome.

Coil aside, having a static for other content makes the game so much funner. No more rolling the dice on ex primals and hoping 7 other randoms can play the fight. No more diving into dungeons w/ stupid dps who ignore mechanics that shouldn't be ignored. Crafting/gathering buddies (if they're into that). Farming without having 7 other ppl to outroll.

That's not to say that statics are drama free, but the amount of time and effort that my statics have saved me trying to accomplish my in-game goals has exponentially outweighed the stress they've caused me.

Expecting others to activelly pursue them for their static and then complain on the forums that they can't find a static instead of directing that energy to socialising, making contacts to activaly find a astatic. If that doesn't work, starting a static. Also, many won't go through the learning process of a new static in FCoB they expect to be able to jump straight into an already established static and get the shinies from day 1.

So much this. I spend a lot of time with people in my static even outside of raid time. We are all in different FC's so the raid leader set up a linkshell for us and for good solid people that regularly sub for us. There's usually at least one person to run dungeons/trials with, farm light, etc. We'll get together as a static sometimes and do SCoB/EX primals, WoD/ST/CT for the weekly, and whatever else we feel like doing. A lot of us are avid crafters/gatherers so there's that as well. We kind of have a little crafting circle going, lol. ^^

This has got to be the number one killer of groups. I have led a team since BCoB and in that time countless members have come and gone. The persistence of the leader in recruiting is a prime factor of the longevity of the group. However it is super frustrating when every week someone is missing. Its compounded by the fact that a pug might get loot/tome/coat/twine your group needs more to progress. It started to get a lot better when i used the app GroupMe so everyone is in one giant group chat, if someone is late or going to be absent they can send everyone a message at once and none of our time is wasted wondering and waiting for someone to show up to raid that is otherwise priorly committed. To me that had been the most frustrating thing about leading. Attendance, and rerecruiting. You do catch a break sometimes and for awhile you get all 8 players that like playing together, play well together, and have fun together.

It takes one person to initiate, it takes one responsibility to lead while having a member who take things lightly.. Kick that member and hey.. Some people dont like it and leave as well.. People put this to make it sound so easy to lead where people have difference in language,personality, free hours, jobs and play style.. If people being lazy, there are reasons behind it..

You yourself have highlighted the main issue as to why most players cannot find a static: Most established statics are on farm status for at least 1-2 fights by now, and exclusively recruit other players who appear to be on farm status. Teaching a player mechanics that are hideously easy to succeed at when the rest of the group is in order is labeled as 'carrying' but what most raid groups won't admit is that it really means 'risk reduction for new recruits'.

Players not formerly in a static are severely hamstrung on what means and resources and connections they have to players in the right mindset to be in a static. Most don't even know where to begin with organizing a static and most that try fail within weeks due to lack of attendance or social connections for viable, capable replacements. Conversely, players who have already 'broken in' to having a static have less and less of those barriers due to experience in how organization works and social connections they form with other capable, trustworthy players.

Amusingly, those same statics regularly complain about a dearth of 'good' players to recruit into their groups while rejecting even half the viable population to fill them outright.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy not unlike the US job market. Telling people to hit the bricks and find a job isn't going to help when how we make jobs happen is fundamentally flawed.

I think my static's been pretty flexible as far as this goes. Since we've only cleared T10 and T11 a couple of times, we're not looking for someone that has it on farm, though experience is a plus. We've tried out a few people for the static because we recently got rid of a couple of people that just weren't getting mechanics. The person we're trying out this week has no T11 experience, so the raid leader told him to just watch a few videos and jump into some learning parties to get experience at least through the first couple of phases.

Then we get to throw tethers at him and see if he flies or dies. :3
