Bard Poison and You!

I've noticed in a lot of content, especially CT content, monsters and certain targets are immune to Venom Bite. Anyone have a theory as to why say, Ifrit's Nail in Extreme, and the Battle Standards in the new Wanderer's Palace are immune to poison. But Ninja still gets their 20% damage from Poison. And Summoners/Scholars can put diseases on these.

I wish I could ask a developer their logic behind this... "Why is it that I can poison a box of supplies; but the second I want to poison a mechanic I have to kill, it says no?"

I can't think of a single enemy in CT that's immune to venomous bite.

Atomos, or whatever the big gaping mouth dude in Labyrinth is. Unless they changed him over the past few patches.

Pretty sure he isn't.

He definitely isn't in WoD.

I'm 70% sure he isn't in LoTA. Not 100% because always on pad as a bard.

Bard poison is the same as any other DoT. Nothing that isn't invulnerable is immune to any of them.

There was a time where "inorganic" targets would be immune to a handful of DoTs, mostly Arcanist ones (like the boxes in the Goblin Guildhest). They mostly undid that, but if you're still seeing this, you should get screenshots of this and report them, because this shouldn't be a thing anymore. I've never been a Bard in LotA but it definitely sticks on Atomos in WoD, so, that seems like an oversight if that's still happening.

Pretty sure you're either missing the shot (what's your accuracy?) or that the buff simply isn't showing up. When there's a ton of debuffs on the target I've noticed the venom doesn't show up while the Windbite still does.

In turn 7 the dark matter crystals are immune to venomous bite

The White Magestones in Amdapor hard are probably immune. Also the rocks in Copperbell hard. Both of those are also immune to Spirits Within (you get a No Effect message)

Atamos in the First Crystal Tower is the only mob I can think of that ever resisted venomous bite.

There's actually a maximum number of a single DoT that can be applied to a single target. I can't remember the exact number, but on WoD runs with more than 6 bards and pretty much every S rank ever, getting my DoTs, especially Venomous Shot, to stick is a chore and a half.

thats not what OP is talking about. there are certain enemies that flat say immune to venomous bite. like one other person said, the crystal in turn 7 is immune, as are the rocks in coperbell.

I can guarantee you 100% certainty that the nails in ifrit ex are immune.

Yeah, I don't really like how some things are immune to it, because it's not even consistent (like the Ifrit's nails example; they are ONLY immune in the extreme mode, as far as I remember). There's also other sorts of not-alive targets like boxes in FATEs and such that can be poisoned (?), but others that can't.

There's also some enemies that are immune to Windbite but susceptible to Venomous Bite, although the examples are fewer (I think) and I'm not thinking of any right now.

I think they should just probably get rid of these sorts of immunities, to be honest. It already doesn't make any sense that BLMs are killing Ifrit with Fire, after all, so I don't really think the "you shouldn't be able to poison a box!" arguments really hold much water in this game.

I know what he's talking about, but a number of the replies AFTER cite examples where the number of stacks would make it seem like immunity is taking place because the boss doesn't register the DoT

My accuracy without food is 532. I would find it awkward for me to miss anything outside of Bahamut prime with that accuracy.

It does the no effect, but it does the upfront physical damage. The DoT doesn't apply.

The DoT applies as my understanding. The DoT isn't displayed because the maximum has already been displayed. The way you can tell it's already applied, is that your DoT won't reappear on the mob until it complete wears off even if there are available visible spots on the debuff bar.

There is no reason this should ever be a thing.

SE, fix this.

Most inorganics that are immune to dots have very low health, so your dots wouldn't have a chance to tick very much anyway. I kind of thought that making them immune was SE's way of saying "just kill it quick with straight shot". And bards in LotA usually stay on the pad to kill adds, so maybe it just went unnoticed by the devs.

Ninja don't have a poison DoT. Only as a selfbuff.
It increase the dmg you do by 20% (selfbuff), but it don't increase the dmg the target get by 20% (debuff on the target)

They definitely can be Poison Arrowed, me and my Mates even made fun of how that's possible or in what way it makes sense.
Haven't checked for Turn 7.

there are no crystals in T7 ._.

Seriously, it seems that most poison type DoTs do not apply on non-moving mobs that have low HP. It doesn't matter whether they apply or not tbh in these cases. It counts rocks, metallic objects, and a few neglictible things.

Atomos may fall in that non-moving category, causing the DoT-resistance. An overseeing from the devs due to the intended strat I assume

I know for a fact that the rocks in Copperbell are imune to Bane, but you can still manually apply the dots to it.

There's actually a logical reason behind this. The poison the NIN apply to their daggers are from various poisonous creatures, whose venom melts through all manner of things. The various SMN/SCH DoTs work because they're corrupting aether, something all matter has in Eorzea. But you cannot inject actual poison into something non-living, nor can you Disembowel something non-living. This is why neither of those two abilities work on things such as the boulders in Copperbell HM.

It's just the bard's curse. Think of BRD in FFXI, and of how any boss/NM from Wings of the Goddess and upwards is immune to Foe Requirem, BRD's main debuff. It's just how Se looks at bard.

A lot of misinformed people here... wow. Yes, the nails in Ifrit Extreme cannot be venomous bit, and yes, the inanimate objects in WP HM cannot be venomous bit. It always seems to be an enemy that cannot attack back directly. I have no idea why it doesn't work either, it's probably some dumb lore reason.

Except, this doesn't actually work. Summoner spells description alone breaks your logic by the simple quote. "Causes fever and lungs are failing." Rocks, Totems, and Dragon heads (In WoD on the 2nd boss are immune to Venomous bite too.) do not have lungs or white-blood cells. And even then, it's still the same concept. It's both poisons. If we got by that same logic, bard should be nearly worthless against these objects alone. How effective exactly is an arrow against a rock? Chances are, it won't pierce. It's more likely to ricochet.
