Disappointment With Machinist?

It may be too early too speculate, however, based solely upon the brief clip from fanfest? After a long while of waiting from 2.0 beta and an even longer wait for those promised a gun class in 1.0, It's safe to say that at least a small amount of disappointment is in order.
Maybe I was the only one who'd gotten excited when they saw Merlwyb dual wielding guns for the Leviathan arc, maybe I was the only one who associated a more pirate styled class with a city built by pirates for pirates with gunpowder.
Again, it is very early to be completely downtrodden, though, with the Machinist only firing 1 gun and seemingly employing a potential pet mechanic into the mix? After all this waiting and staring at the 2 crossed gun sign in the marauder guild I can't be the only one who feels a little bit let down.

Easy. They went Cid route with the gun user and not the Admiral. :p At least, that's the gist of it from the OP.

I would've loved a dual wielder myself, though I'll save judgement on the pet. If they have customization on the pet or make it look REALLY GREAT, it won't be a let down.

From the outside and what we've learned so far, it seems boring lol. Outside of a disappointing/plain job, that's all I can muster.

We knew sinc a long while ago that musketeer wouldn't come. It's not SE's fault if people chose to stick to the idea that it would come nevertheless and are now disappointed. You created your own disappointment.

On the bright side : you got your gunner dps, and I didn't get my healing gunner (aka chemist). :p

That's being ignorant. We know nothing of the new jobs apart :

=> MCN : uses guns and turrets
=> DRK : uses a big sword and magic to enhance it
=> AST : uses tarot cards and a globe.


If that makes MCN boring to you compared to the others, you're playing your classes for an odd reason ^^

Nah, they told us MSK is coming, and dual guns was a 'maybe', but all throughout 1.0 we were told over and over again it is coming.

Either way I don't care too much. Yeah, sucks its not the MSK we thought it was..but this new job might be fun, never know. Personally, I want a pure DD ranged job, like bow and arrow type that is really strong ^^ Anyway, just wanted to clear it up that we were told and assured time and time again that we would get the MSK lol.

Never gonna happen. DPS in this game have quirks because that is how they keep them balanced. If one DPS was just 'All Super Damage' and nothing else, their damage would have to be very high to compensate. This, in turn, would make it so why would anyone want the other DPS? Just burn down as fast as possible with the Ultra DPS, all other classes not required (cept maybe a Bard).

Bad design. Every DPS in the game has a weakness. Monks and Dragoons used to have lots of positional requirements, Bard's had their songs lowering their DPS, but still providing a massive group benefit when used correctly. Black Mages have mobility problems and summoners have very little 'Burst' Damage.

What 'weakness' would this 'Pure DPS' build have? No support? That's not something a DPS has to have.

As far as I remember (2.0 beta), MSK was considered as a relic of the past and the sign was in Limsa only because it was part of the city and they didn't want to remove it. People kept asking, and devs kept saying that the gun class wouldn't be MSK.

as for the pure DD part, I don't know. MCN has apparently been advertised as a dps/support to balance the "always needed" side of the bard. As I don't speak japanese, this is just "I've heard that..." but I've heard it a lot ^^
Though I agree that a pure ranged physical dps would be something interesting.

Excuse me? How is it being ignorant? I specifically said "From the outside and what we've learned so far" and I do believe what you listed counts as "what we've learned". My definition of what boring is doesn't have to align with yours.

that's not meant as an insult. I was thinking it the way "making assumptions about nothing" (English isn't my language, so I might have some troubles finding the right words).

But well, if wielding guns and turrets is enough to be boring for you, there's nothing wrong about it, just a bit odd :)

I wanted a Gun class that was a ranged single target DPS. A DPS class that could parse comparable to Drg/Nin or even Mnk but not be good with AoEs, or big groups of monsters.

Thought Gunner could be this, Maybe Machinist can but I don't want another job where I have to micromanage a pet after doing it on Summoner. I find little joy in actually using pet moves and I only really use one pet on my Smn.

If the Pet just follows you without an HP bar and is like a second weapon for you more than its own pet. That would be pretty cool and I could probably get behind that. But as of now, I'm gonna stick with Mnk. I knew Nin wasn't gonna do it for me after they merged it with Thief, and I suspect Machinist won't do it for me either.

Well you guys DID ask for a smn fix! I mean...

Well what I think it might be is a little different then a pet. They said you place the turret and I am speculating it will have a duration of life DPS and buff allies around it. Not sure but I think it may be less micromanaging. :D

Lets face it, this was never going to happen and it's exactly why Bard is what it is. If you had a pure ranged DPS why would you take anything else to a raid(coil etc)? Does the same amount of damage output with no positioning and the freedom of movement and range? No brainer.

By this logic we can assume that MCN will have to bring something else to the table to compensate for the DPS loss, and by the looks of the turret it deploys, i would say some kind of enfeebling mechanics in order.

FF community... begging for more and new things for months and months, demanding classes, jobs, traits, skills, etc. for months and month.

Confirm three new jobs, and then whine and moan when it wasn't precisely just what was requested.

Seriously, let's see WHAT these classes are really like, before whining about them.

That being said, the Machinist probably is being outshined by the Dark Knight and Astrologist. I mean, let's be honest here, it really is all about the Dark Knight... for me at least. It's what my father did :P

I like the sound of Machinist being a Summoner transferring to a Bard if it turns out to be like Bard, but have the pet actions it'd be like my favorite classes merged. I'm looking forward to seeing how they implement this new class and how they'll balance it with the other jobs.

Im glad I'm not the only one that sees Machinist as "Summoner 2.0" I really hope the robot doesnt deal damage. Otherwise there will be no reason to play Summoner.
