Will we have a "living and pulsing of life world" like this one day?

I was on youtube and i saw this one on raccomanded videos .. I've seen many video of Aion and i never had any interest on it , but i was bored and i gave a look .. After the video i was really but really impressed.. Please if you have 10 free mins give it a look, (or just watch the 4-5 final minutes that are really impressive) ..

Now here come the question.. It's only me or this world looks more fantasy , than Final fantasy ? (i dont like the chara design and too much action combat but the world design itself it's amazing .. looks at the giant colossuss walking on the earth in the final minutes.. ) Even the graphical effects (not polygonal models) looks better and more vibrant .. And it is an older game..:confused:

So after the map revamp, will we have something LIKE THIS?? What do you think? Please look the video before answer thanks!

I don't think they should copy other games but the lack of creativity and imagination is what I hope they will address with the landscape changes. I think boring is a lo bigger problem than the copy/paste of it all.

It looks overdesigned and shallow.

What's the purpose of the world (other than to look good)? it's eye candy with some afterthought lore slapped on it to give it at least a somewhat of a purpose, simple as that.

A true lack of creativity is making the game over-the-top because you can't think of anything interesting without going overboard and just making everything as dazzling as possible (to hide the fact that there is no substance). Making an interesting yet realistic setting is much harder to pull off.

So true. They managed to do that with XI but in XIV they forgot to put in the interesting bits.

you do know that aion isnt like that now right? thats just a concept video, they havent pulled it off yet.

funny though how they seem to have a bahamut in that video.

You seriously think it has an actual context and meaning in the game, like Bahamut does?

It's a cool looking boss that exists just to look cool. The name is Dra'gyroth and it is the Beast chained by the Elder Gods and has come to wreak havoc because the game needed a cool looking dragon boss for the instance #2312

I don't think anyone wants XIV to look like Aion but it's reasonable to compare XIV with the level of creativity in FF titles prior to XIV. They never copied anything not even themselves.

Oh god that looks so gaudy and shallow. Yeah...I hope the zone redesigns DON'T do this.

Because having an enemy for the sake of looking cool and being an interesting battle is somehow worse than the no boss in the nonexistent dungeon XIV had for the first 10 months?

Even then, Dzemael Darkhold is just teeming with lore now, isn't it? "Hey, there's some monsters in there. But you don't have to fight them, just make use of the only functioning stat in the game to survive them till you get to the little blue circles that make them go by by."

Whether its worse or just as bad is quite irrelevant. This game needs neither and that's the whole point.

I actually just got done going through the Aion trial myself XD

One thing that has disturbed me about this game (FFXIV), aside from the lack of an interactive and dynamic world that I thought this sandbox title would have, is the surprising absence of solid spell effects to compliment the great texture/map work that is present in the game.

Imagine how much better Gridania would be if it actually had godrays, forest shrines/areas with subtle little spell effects, and an ecosystem that interacted with itself - everyone would be moving their retainer farms out of Uld'ah.

i'll pass.. there are games that offer that if that what you're looking for.. Games should not cater to every player.. but it should be up to the players to find a game that fits what they are looking for..

Aion was never intended to be a sandbox....... its a themepark as themepark gets...

I really hope going forward that SE doesn't become lazy with end game and make it all about instanced dungeons.. they're fun and all, but I am really hoping for more Assault, Dynamis, Sky, Sea, Limbus type EVENTS.

Of course its what you like; its what you're used to. I hardly see building instances as lazy. And the stuff you listed, I thought Assault was instanced? It doesn't feel any different than Toto but since it's XI you like it. Sky, really, you enjoyed that? I remember for the logest time on my server it was a nightmare to even kill Uli for pop items because of RMT. limbus and Dynamis, I have to schedule days with my LS and coordinate with other LSs because it's NOT instanced. Seriously what are you alergic to progression?

I think All we need is some of the old FF drama, something to actually Fight against.
Though we seem top be getting with the mini invasion forces, but as we move forward it needs to be more intimidating.

If we go to war properly at some point, having Airships fighting over the R50 invasions would make it feel more well epic..
- Dynamic invasions with different troops each time, airship bombing as we fight.
Machina at hi level invasions.
- Troops moving too and from a location to achive something, not just standing around till the get killed.
(We stop them great better loot if not we lose something)

Instances.. they are fun,,, but they get dull after a few dozen runs, even worse after you can clear it and its not a challenge any more.
But i would love to see the current ones expanded and added too.
With more interesting ways to completing it then just kill all bosses,
(killing X boss makes Y bridge fall down so you cant kill boss Z, but A becomes available.)

at least they get players to pay a monthly subscription :p

I'm personally looking forward to crashing waves, thunder claps and turbulent skies in LL. I could pretend I was on the Black Isles. =D Blowing leaves in Gridinia would be nice, and Ul'Dah... Well it's supposed to look kinda sinister, am I right?

I think it's a fair point though. With all the artists and designers at Square, I think one would expect a little more element to the digital canvas. But XI was that way in '03-- lots of blandness. Every expansion brought new details that made that world come to life. I certainly don't think it's a priority, but not a doubt rests in my mind that Square is both capable and willing to go about graphical rehauls. Eventually.

Oh, and wind. I think it already does a little bit, doesn't it? But I'd really like to see things actually blowing one day, especially if there's going to be an emphasis on ships and sails.

I agree, XIV has only some changes when the clouds move and repetitive weather effects. Tbh I wish they would have 4 different skins of each zone and change them every now and again to reflect seasons.
There is bunch of other stuff they can do also. In Tera you can see pollen flying in the air, small npc rodents, fireflies, etc, etc.

what i liked were the seasons, colors, shades, shadows, lights, etc.
THAT's what made the environments.
Can easily be done in XIV. just need to FREAKIN OPTIMIZE CRYSTAL ENGINE!!!!
like the part in the video were it's dusk and it looks AMAZINGly dusk like.

Everything else is a little over the top.
But what I mentioned above is done quite darn well.

To be fair even if the wanted to make a large scale battle like that in XIV you wouldn't be able to see enemies in the distance like that.

XIV's engine only draws characters near to you so large scale battles with the current tech just isn't going to happen.

I tried Aion..the world didn't seem any better to me. I played maybe a month, it didn't keep my interest at all sadly :\

Don't think this is some pro-Aion comment but what is it that was so bad about it?
I've been trying a few MMOs to keep me busy while they're building XIV and was thinking of trying Aion for a while because it's pretty much the only big MMO that I haven't tried yet.

i don't mind if things are instanced or not, as long as they are done right, they are fun, not too easy and we need a mix of shorter and longer instances and variety. 1 hr instances are fine but we def. need bigger ones, longer ones (not just stretched ones, filled with content ofc.) , and i really hope we get instances that are not dungeons, why do instances most of the time lead to a dungeon... open area instances would be nice to add in the future. i don't mind goin through a short dungeon to reach it :) but it would be much more fun to reach an open area inside.
I don't want everything to happen in a dungeon (even though its the only time my gfx card cools down lol)

if done right instanced stuff can be very interesting and fun and i rather have the challenge due to difficulty then to challenge claim bots or other players (thats what pvp is for imo). A hard strategic fun fight is more rewarding then just claiming something -imho- (which isnt fair usually since different lags, etc.)
