Should there be another healing job?

I have been leveling Rouge and at 27 have only done 2 dungeons with it. All my other leveling has been from FATEs and Guildleves because it takes almost an hour to be placed in a party. With Conj being the only healer pre 30 that leaves only one healer until SCH is available or a high level SCH does a low level dungeon. With Dark Knight being added in the expansion or possibly more jobs shouldn't another healer be added to balance things out?

Yes there should be more healers and yes there will be more in 3.0

I wouldn't mind seeing a Chemist job that heals/buffs/debuffs by throwing items later on. The class could be called Concoctionist or something like that.

Apothecary would have a better ring to it, even if neither sounds particularly battle-oriented.

In any case we'll probably never see a truly item-dependent Job. The only way it would work is with flavor text; Yoshi won't go for consumables.

It doesn't have to be consumable. After all archers don't use up arrows and ninjas don't use up shurikens. It's all in the name.

There should be more of everything except DPS. There's a bunch of DPS classes already, but only two healers and two tanks. There's going to be dark knights so tanks will have 3 classes, but that still leaves healers with only two. :(

Preeeeetty sure I heard somewhere in the convoluted mess of previous Letters and Interviews that a tank (Dark Knight) and healer (???) role were scheduled to be released in the expansion.

I heard it was dark knight and some class with guns.

Class with guns is likely going to be the healer. And yeah, there is a lot of DPS and DoW in general, hoping that things balance out a bit. But guessing we'll see a DoM Tank out of Dark Knight and a DoW healer out of the gun job.

But there definitely should be more healers. If nothing else it's a fun change of pace for existing healers, and may get new healers to try it out.

I'm hoping for a Red Mage myself, rather than a "gun healer". Although Red Mage would have to stem off from Gladiator, unless they're making rapiers it's own weapon class.

It has been confirmed for a long time that the expansion will bring at least a new healer and tank, so this can mean dps will be added as well or more than one healer/tank.

But yes, yes and yes again. This game desperatly needs another healer that starts from lvl 1 as a healer.

I'd prefer a Red Mage healer as well. Magical healers appeal to me much more than tactical/martial or even alchemical ones.

At this rate I wouldn't be at all surprised to see RDM as a stand-alone Job like DRK was announced to be. Very curious to see what happens when they finally give us RDM. Guessing that they'll A) have overhauled the Role system by then; B) enforce a strict Black/White/Martial stance system for RDM; C) make RDM fairly bad at everything; or D) make the Job way too good at everything.

If they're sticking to the class->job system, I'm guessing it'll start off as a fencer. And I'm also guessing that Red Mage would have en-spells for auto attacks, but healing/supportive spells mainly (grey magic?) and be in melee range to be an off-dps healer, much like how Scholar is now. But hard to tell with FF14, considering the only classes who actually follow the FF14 class/job meta to the dot are White Mage and Black Mage. While every other generic FF-class (Paladin and Summoner especially) are quite different.

If Red Mage is going to be melee, it'll probably end up as the new loldrg and people tell them to stand far away so they don't die

edit: Not even Black Mage, now that I think about it. They only have three elements in FF14

Ofc there should be another healer but the thing is, it'll break the happy bond between schs and whm.
The new healer can't :
-be a bursty healer as it'll compete with whm.
- have a pet(s) as it'll compete with sch.
-have aoe shields as it will be just another sch = compete lol

What it can have :
-Highest dps output out of the healers = what's the point as its a healer and not a Dps.
-lots of buffs = why have a bard

But it makes a lot of points moot as if it can't perform 1 role significantly better than the other class then whats the point of bringing it to ur party if a whm or sch can do it better.

So this is gonna be a very tricky one for SE to tackle.
But it'll probs work out if they overhaul the jobs in the expansion and think of something new.

The healer archetypes that we don't have covered already include the vampiric healer (e.g. heal party by inflicting damage to enemies and/or by buffing party members with lifesteal) and the battle cleric (e.g. most combat actions buff party members to increase damage dealt and decrease damage received while applying HoTs and limited burst heals).

The challenge with either of these is that, more so than with SCH and WHM, a bad party can wreck your attempts to support them. Lifesteal isn't very effective when players can't maintain DPS, and buffs don't help much when damage received is high and damage output is low.

That being said, a healer that doesn't carry scrub parties but synergizes beautifully with skilled ones might be worth exploring.

I sincerely doubt it'll be Red Mage unless you're expecting the Red Mages to use guns. Which there has been some concept art of them with pistols, so I suppose that's possible, but immensely doubtful.

It's also doubtful that we'll see branching jobs at all, or possibly even classes. Dark Knight having only a job makes it likely that from here on out we're only going to be getting jobs, no classes, though how exactly that'll work is still up in the air of course. That and there isn't anything wrong with Rapiers being their own weapon, Greatswords got to be their own after all.

Also kind of doubting Red Mage as a healer, since even though it has healing abilities I think that making it more of a Enspell specialist works better, gives it a mage feeling while still being melee. But it's all kind of moot right now, Red Mage probably isn't coming for a while now, at least not until the first patch since Dark Knight and gun healer are probably the only new jobs we're getting. I could be wrong though, I just feel like those two got the focus currently. I'd really like to see more new jobs than just two myself.

That said, RDM probably wouldn't fit in FFxiv. Why ? RDM is a jack of all trades. They can do all, though at a lower level than specialized jobs (WHM, BLM, and knight namely). Though the duality BLM/knight isn't an issue except for stats (and even, you could have a stance to convert intelligence into physical damages by enchanting your sword), the WHM part is bothersome. The over locked trinity just simply doesn't allow it to happen at all. Ain't a healer, can't do shit at healing.

We would end up with a RDM amputated of one of its core trait, and it would be a pity :/

Red Mages never used guns in any Final Fantasy installment. I posted my speculations about it in the previous post.

I know Red Mages have never used guns. Hence why I mentioned the concept art, it's really the only way I see tying guns to Red Mages, and at this stage I'm sincerely doubting we're getting more than Dark Knight and the gun job. I could be wrong, but I'm being somewhat pessimistic on the number of new jobs myself.

And TP healer would work for Red Mage potentially, though the way it turns out in my head is kind of weird. Using spells to enchant your weapon/yourself so you can melee enemies to gain TP to use it to heal your allies. I mean, it does all three, but it really doesn't sound very... cohesive. I'd be happy with Red Mage casting Enspells to buff itself/allies and then being a melee mage of sorts. It might not have actual healing/tanking, but cross classing Cure/Physic works for the healing bit unless you're actually wanting it to be able to be a full healer, and I'd give it bucklers along with the main weapon being a one-handed sword. Kind of tanky looking then, but should look more like an agile fencer kind of fighter.

RDM are traditionally depicted with rapiers ^^ Also, the fact about them is that they MIGHT be effective healers in the solo games (iirc, their BLM/WHM/melee efficiency are around 70% of a "real" job) and that just wouldn't fit with cure/physics cross class in my mind :/

There just can't be another viable healer for endgame with the current 8 player full parties.
2 healers, 2 tanks, 4 dps.
But if they up each number so its
3 healers, 2/3 tanks, 4/5 dps.
Then maybe it'll be more of a viable build in the meta as ppl always state that nothing beats a whm and sch that can work together.
But all in all one of the healer classes will be endangered to becoming inferior to the other jobs.
The current one is sch > whm
As ppl say sch brings more to the table etc. so it'll probs get worse if they introduce a new healer sadly.

The size of parties shouldn't dictate the number of classes we have. By that logic we shouldn't be getting anything new at all, and didn't need anything other than Scholar, Summoner was already redundant then. Since that's kind of a ridiculous stance though, more jobs won't hurt. So long as they make each of them unique there will be reasons to take one over the other.

And I know what Red Mages are traditionally depicted with. I don't really consider them to be effective solo healers in offline FF games, or tanks though really. But then again it's not like healers or tanks really exist in the same sense that they do in online games after all. But yeah, I don't see anything wrong with them being melee DPS with support in the form of Enspells, with Cure crossclassing to make them be pretty versatile without breaking the system or being unfitting for how Red Mages are. But it's all dependent on the weight everyone places in individual aspects of a job.

More diverse jobs brings more possibilities. As per your example : people prefer SCH + WHM because it's plain stupid to bring twice the same job from a synergy point of view (doesn't apply for everything as double monk is actually quite viable to push undergeared content but meh), and they only prefer it over SCH + SCH or WHM + WHM. There is no other option at all.

Also, we now have 6 dps, and none of them is deemed "inferior" to the others (DRG is a bit low but still viable and going to be "fixed"), you the "one will be inferior" is still wrong.


Variety brings way more benefits than you might think, especially in well balanced games like FFxiv.

This got me thinking. Chemist could use a similar system as Mudras, only they use different concoctions before using it on someone.

Lol don't be hatin just sayin! I do bring up good points? ;p cuz we all know since we have 6 dps, a lot of drgs make forums tht request buffs etc. also blms r like aw man these new mechanics punish our dps output as it forces us to keep cancelling our casts. Pvp is a whole different story.
Also if the new healer used a similar system to mudras, wouldn't that make the learning curve a bit harder as you need to
- remember combos
-pay attention to party/ individual's hp
- still be able to dodge aoes and do mechanics without tunnel visioning the skills
- pray that you don't lag bad that it will mess up ur combos

That isn't a good point though. We shouldn't have anything new because it might be more difficult? Or because all of the classes/jobs currently aren't perfectly balanced? Those aren't good reasons to keep new things out. Balance is an ongoing process that will keep changing as the game goes on. If the new healer winds up being too good then they'll tone it down or buff up the existing healers.

Honestly I'd like to see Dancer come up as a Healing class/job. It'd probably be similar to how it was in 11, as a TP healer, but I'd like to see them use a sash/whip instead of the daggers.
