Puppetmaster Job indirectly spoilered due to Rogue Storyline?

I am a huge fan of Puppetmaster in FFXI and i would look forward to an other (but melee) pet jobclass in FFXIV: Heavensward.

And i always recognized these automaton in Ul'dah City. Now it seemed that these puppet appear as an enemy in the lv 25 rogue storyline. Where "Soldiers" with h2h weapons fight along with a "security marionette", which was able to cast pebble (stone) and vita. Mostly the same like a puppetmaster and his puppet functioned in FFXI . it was a melee job with h2h weapons just like monk (lower dps on his own) and a pet with different roles.

May it be a spoiler for a possible 2. job choice for pugilist? :)

In all seriousness - this is pretty interesting, was wondering if the automatons had fighting capabilities in XIV I guess they do.

mamets (automatons) are already used in Eorzea, and have been since launch. There all over Ul'dah for example as guards. No surprise you fight some. I am not discrediting you, but it may be a big stretch of imagination on your part... or it might not.

But the difference is... that they appear the first time in fight and they use spell abillities.. additionally they appear along with soldiers who wear h2h weapons...
which for me seems to be a clear hint. i may be wrong.. but it seems very obvious. i mean why do all soldiers wear h2h weapons as a weapon in this mission? coincidence? dont think so.

and the automaton is called "marionette".. which is clearly related to puppetmaster in FF history.
Unfortunatley i only have pictures with the soldier captain which was the only one without h2h weapons in this mission.

i think the 4 next jobs had been already hinted a lot

1) dark knight (officially announced)
2) Samurai (soken did hints it while las vegas)
3) Agent (hinted while london fan fest, can be another jobs, but it probably a gunner jobs)
4) Red Mage (the cover of the art book from the fan fest show a female hyur holding a rapier) this one is the less sure, but since yoshida have said recently that he want a melee mage...

ps: by the way it will be a clever move if you think about it...

1 tank (dark knight), 1 healer (probably the agent) and 2 dps (samurai and red mage) will make the df don't go weird like we had with the ninja

Fighting mammets have been in the game since Halatali (Hard) was introduced.

yup and rogue was more or less introduced since leviathan storyline.. so what? And the agent (gunner job) we have seen also recently in some of the missions, too..

The expansion is in development since 1-2 years and the new jobs dont exist since yesterday.


Plus the mammets in Halatali didnt fought along with h2h soldiers.. Square Enix doesnt implement enemies without any background behind it.. they do it intentionally. the world and all enemies do have a lore behind it. And a "marionette" is related to puppetmaster in every FF...

Our magitek mount is also like a marionette. It is equipped with a marionette core.

I don't know about the soldier. He just look like a Gladiator/Paladin to me

i think you underestimate the impact of only one jobs arriving into a mmorpg, we are not in FF11 where the balance wasn't always great, here Yoshida and it team try to make sure each class bring something and are balanced...
other point, Yoshida by the past had said that he will add class/jobs in funtion of two thing, what it can bring to the game in terms of gameplay and what it can bring to the team... i don't see what can bring the puppetmaster today to the game... how will you make it different of the summoner?

we have received 3 new jobs till now. which i think for content patches its not that less.

and no one confirmed red mage or samurai and stuff yet, and how many classes we do get. On the contrary you could say, what can a samurai add to the game? First he is a 2H damage dealer besides Dragoon... "so what should it make it differently then? The animation?".. i could also argument like that.

Besides that its the matter how different you design the specific class. For example giving commands to the puppet like the summoner in AION in contrast to the summoner we have now in FF14. etc. etc.
just one pet which is customizable and can change classes like the character can do instead of 5 different pets. the abillity to customize the pet's skills

transfering damage from the master to the puppet etc. etc. there could be many possibillities to make the PUPP unique. Plus the PUPP could heal party members, too... if the automaton has that specific role. which a summoner is unable to. and the pets of the summoner feel more or less like trash pets.

just some ideas how a PUPP could be designed:
- one pet (customizable)
- pet commands
- abillity to support/heal
- different pet roles

I don't know if you played the Goldsmith storyline, but in there it is pretty clear that the automatons which probably would be whaqt puppet master uses are machines

Actually Felis was correct. In the storyline Maggie (the mount) had to be given a core by the Goldsmith Guild Master and it ended up giving "her" a personality. She has a Mammet Core as her heart/brain.

You could try and argue that all melee DPS are the same, yes. But given how FFXIV is compared to FFXI, pet based classes are a little more difficult to bring into fruition. So I don't expect it anytime soon like silentwindfr says.

Spiritmaster in Aion is the same as Summoner in FFXIV. The only difference is there are 7 or 8 pet commands for the pet, which is a result of Aion being out since 2009.

I'd reserve this kind of idea for hybrid. But If it's going to be a jack of all trades, it's going to have to be a master of none. Which means it's not as desirable in end-game. Which means unbalanced. If there's one thing Naoki is trying to avoid..

It's most likely just fanservice, like a million other things in this game. Related to automatons and FFXI in particular, see: Ovjang and Mnejing. Fanservice, nothing more.

Not saying this is not a possibility, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yup you may be right. i just saw this may be a small hint. but well. time will tell.

There's a lot of lore and few quests that actually hints towards Puppetmasters and even mammets from FFXI, e.g Ovjang nd Mjeng or w/e which are basically hinted at being the "exact ones" from x years ago (Vanadiel.)

I'd love there to be another pet role in the game :)
A melee based pet user would be different from Summoner range wise...but maybe it needs something more? (More support/healing orientated pets perhaps in contrast to the dps/tanking pets SMN has)

All SE needs to do add in PUP as is it now in XI, which will give you 1 customizable pet where you can switch it roll based on how you customize it - Though that seems too complex for ARR, sadly. The only reason people say XIV has better balance than XI is because they made everything so homogenized nothing is really...different.

I prefer this way, so we can actually play whatever job we want.

On topic tho, don't get your hopes up too much. It might be a hint or it might be just fan service. ROG/NIN was "introduced" in the main story, and this is a class related quest. Besides, when saying what jobs Yoshi would like to see, he always mentioned jobs like SAM, DRK, even RDM and he always felt that a "scout" class was lacking in this game.

Mammets have been in the game from launch.

The goldsmithing quest has one.
You install the core of one into your magitech mount.
They are seen as guards in various places in the story.
Ovjang a B rank hunt is a mammet.
One is craftable as a pet from goldsmithing.

This isn't dropping a hint about anything. Mammets are just a part of the world. This is just like threads that thing every time a gun appears that it's a musketeer hint despite the simple fact that guns appear all over the place.

If it's already a common part of the world then it's not a hint at anything.

3 jobs is a safe bet here. This isnt 11 were they just threw everything at a wall to see what would stick. Balance is a much bigger concern due to the nature of an actual trinity system.

What I mean is they have 7-8 skills because the game has been around so long. When Spirimaster first released, they had like 4~5 pet skills (which were bad). So I fully expect Summoner to obtain more pet related skills as time goes on. If Summoner came with 7~8 skills *and* all their current DoTs, then that would be somewhat unfair. A full pet class is also pretty hard to balance (so far that it hasn't been done yet as far as I know).

yeah 3 seems the best bet, even if i think 4 will come out... but we will not know before december.

I think this is too much of a stretch. There is a world of difference between a reference to something from another game and a hint/spoiler for something that's really in development. It can sometimes be hard to tell which is which, as we don't know what is really going on behind the scenes at SE. However, I think what we have here is that some dev team member thought to be clever and include some NPCs that are reminiscent of this Puppetmaster job from FFXI. Anything more than that may be wishful thinking. After all, a huge amount of content in FFXIV is made up of references and name-drops to previous FF games. They can't all be "hints" at future classes or major updates. Just because the land of Doma has been mentioned in the main story, it doesn't mean we should expect to see Cyan from FFVI in the game. Just because Ultima Weapon is featured in the story, it doesn't suggest Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, etc., are on the way.

We already know that SE has announced the Dark Knight as their next class, and they are hard at work on preparing the expansion. And we've seen how they like to "hint" at future classes already, with cheeky movie references and t-shirt images. They undoubtedly are also working on some sort of gun-wielding agent/machinist-type class, as they made a big publicity stunt involving a 007 t-shirt. New classes are a big deal for an MMO, and no developer/publisher would be actively planning to release one without taking the opportunity to generate hype about it. They wouldn't just put some obscure reference in an optional job quest, and just clam up about it.
