I'm not ready to grind out more Fieldcraft IIIs after the Supra grind....ugh this is truly a test.

Should have had the title as "The culling of the weak/week" :P Seriously I wonder what these are for, or maybe I missed it in the notes?

Masterbook II will probably need them, 5 or 10 of them.

And i think this is a bit too much honestly, crafting is getting overwhelmingly time and resource consuming.

That after you get 600ish oaknots you need for the ehcatl thingy to craft the artisan gear in the first place xD!

I honestly don`t know about this, i expected 1 new artisan piece, off hand to be exact, along of new recipees, but this is really a whole new level of work, a completely diferent tier... Is way too much time consumption for content that will get outdated by expansion xD

The idea is probably for us to upgrade the head/body/hands/legs/feet/off-hand first. Fully meld those (buy your materia now). Then attempt this with either the artisan tool or supra. I'm just going to guess that the supra is no needed, but will likely give a big advantage to its users. Maybe one less progress tick? I'm still trying to wrap my head around a rotation for that. 801 progress? Nearly 9000 quality? Needing about 7500 quality to guarantee HQ?

Is it just me, or are they trying to push crafting more in the direction of FFXI? Relying on the RNG to HQ? I think getting to 6k will be a stretch, unless the new artisan pieces are a huge increase to craft/control. Or are they assuming we'll need an excellent on BB to HQ it?

Edit: I just realized all these items are called "Artisan X." If they wind up being like the other i70 Artisan items, then no melds on them. Will they even be upgrades?

But these are crafted. So they will have materia slots. And they are intended to be upgrades.

I am going to guess that with one overmeld each piece will will be inferior to a fully melded iL55 piece. Well, save for the feet which currently max at one overmeld. For gloves we already have the Ixal gloves.

They didn't show any new crafting items you can purchase with Soldiery Tomes, these could very well sell for a few hundred soldiery tomes each.

Stuff like the Ararchne Web, Kirimu Skin, Dubbin, Raziqsap, etc all look like pretty sure bets for the new Soldiery mats.

You can desynthesize most il90 and under items with this patch as well, including coil 1 drops. I would assume allagan may potentially give HQ mats for these. You can also desynth the NQ versions of these for HQ mats probably. That doesn't help with field 3s, but those are exceedingly easy now. Either way, some people have only recently finished getting their first supra, so expecting to get all of these in time for the next patch is ridiculous for all but the most die-hard crafters. I would treat this like final coil for crafters, where most are still on second coil and will be by the time the next patch comes around.

I just wish crafting wasn't going to turn into the final binding coil of crafting.
Its so 1337 atm that if you're new to crafting theres really no chance of catching up most likely till expansion.
With materia prices fluctuating, and hardcore sbing no wonder y ppl r like fck it XD

It is daunting. I'm still in 2.0 crafting gear (with ALC a level or two below 50). There's just so much grind.

That said, I imagine the crafted artisan stuff can be sold (unless SE expects everyone to not only have all crafts at 50, but all of them fully geared as well), so the new armor will allow you to skip ahead a little bit (though it's going to be REALLY expensive initially I think). I know all the armor says i60, but I'm thinking the HQ artisan's mitts will be definitively better than the Ehcatl smithing gloves once melded.

From a design philosophy, crafting seems like it is intended to be something you dedicate yourself too. If you want to just make a little gil on the side, mining/bot are more for you. You can sink hundreds of hours into crafting and still have something to do.

I'm really excited about the offhands (assuming the sealant is untradable) because you are time gated from acquiring them all. What it may mean is that you have to pick an choose what crafting class you want to be 4* capable. Saying something like "I'm a Armorer" will mean something other than "I haven't leveled/melded my other jobs up to par".

Since BSM has most off-hand tools, probably the first pick of any 4 star crafter will be BSM anyway... xD

Lets call this "The Final Coil of Craftingmut".

I think this will be the exact opposite of culling out the weak. Assuming that you can sell the new artisan pieces on the MB, you could easily buy your way into top tier crafting for less than half the price of a big house.

You can buy the best gear but without a solid rotation you are toast. The 3 star rotation I use can turn nq mats into hq items about 70% of the time. My stats are craft 410, control 390 and CP 395 with food. The 3 star rotation has luck on the quality side. It appears that the 4 star will have luck on both the quality and progress side. I did give a shot at the 3 star listed for hq. The rotation is grizzly and I did come in decently on quality but having said that you need perfect luck with a lot of 50% and 80% skills. We will see what it looks like in a day with new gear stats. I am hoping that the main item from oak knots can be bought. To recover the gil on selling i110 gear, it would help to get it out the door with in the first 2 weeks. The 2.2 patch was not too hard to get the i90 gear HQ and out the door.

why would anyone buy crafted 110 gear,??

ok meldable... except material is so cost prohibitive now that nearly no one an be bothered to meld even i90 never mind 110.

plus on top of it st is farmable and sol gear will be easy to get so getting to 110 in any class wont be hard. plus the new gear from poetics will be in all likelihood 110 upgradable to 120.

this just adds up to an awful lot of time for new crafting gear that will be hard to get or easy if you don't mind potentially buying it. although to me I would have to have my own name attached to my crafting gear.

I will look as this new step in crafting and gradually work towards it, probs faster than most but seriously this is looking like a crazy grind and getting all those fieldrafts for supras was bad enough, and although there will be gil to be made I don't think it will be as much as we would probs like unless the new gear is some exceptionally nice looking glam.

You could be right. i90 crafted did sell ok even though players could get i100 st and i100/i110 soldiery. I never really liked the Soldiery gear as a healer and haven't gone into coil very far. I still have a few nicely melded i90 items around that I switch out as I like. So the new crafted gear interests me. It may interest others and I am looking at keeping the cost down as best as possible. I do hope it is not overly gated with the oak knots or the 4 star crafting will be a waste of time unless it is a hobby on the side.

As for the new gear, my guess is i120 upgraded to i130. Same as the weathered geared went over the last 6 months.

In the end, I will do the 4 star one way or another. It is my challenge as it comes out. Some like ex or coil. I have always been more of a crafter and from time to time find myself doing other.

Most of hardcore raiders will need to maximize their potential in raids for the first several weeks as you will be heavily gated by poetry weekly cap.
New i110 gear can be melded to become more than BiS for every slot so there is a heavy struggle for crafters to be able to provide those asap from the patch date as later on raiders will most probably get some coil gear + poetry so they won't actually need crafted gear that much. So panic and chaos are guaranteed for the first week for crafters. I bet 4 star items will cost like 2 mils per piece if they are really making it to the MB that fast.

Yeap about that price for non legacy servers. Day 1 prices during 2.2 was around 5-8mil a piece, although volume wasn't huge at all.

It seems to me that they want crafters to choose a specialty craft or a few. In desynth you have to choose, you can't have all at the top. Now with the new gear, master recipes, etc. getting one class, and later some other to the top craft level may be attainable, but all crafters is a huge work and most people won't be able to do it mid term.

It sort of happens with the relic quest too, one class to the top, OK, doable with a lot of time. More classes is too much time, but if you wait some months it gets easier.

I wonder if with the crafters it will happen like with the battle classes that catching up is favoured for new players so that they can catch up, except the last tier that needs a huge grind.
A bit unrelated, crafting seems to be an apart chapter. The best way to make money is crafting, but, except housing (and materia for Novus), money is used mainly for leveling crafters, or obtaining or melding the craft gear which will allow you to gain more gil, that you will use probably in getting better crafting gear, to make more gil, to be able to obtain better crafting gear, in an endless spiral.

You don't need to have had top geared crafters to have earned enough money to have bought a house without much effort in last patch (availabilty is other question), and then gil accumulates unless you spend it on gearing and melding the crafters (desynth, demimateria too.) Note: my main is PLD so I haven't spent a fortune in materia for the Novus weapon, other classes may have such a different situation. But once done the Novus, most gil goes to the crafters, who provide gil to be spent on themselves mainly. A completion goal really.

outside the gloves every oaknot trade item is also available in mordona. i'd be surprised if the ehcatl thingy is not a soldier tome item as well.

aside from the offhands you're going to have 8 3/4's to meld into the new piece from converting all the 55 fully melded gear. if you need any more it will probably be 1/2's. sell materia now, buy it back after everyone figures it out imo.

when the game launched there was a first to market race that required the teaming up of crafters/gatherers. it would appear that this patch will also require that, unless the sealant is from soldierly tomes.

When I saw the Ehcatl Sealant hoohah, I just took it the same way Tomes up until now have effectively gated progression, and that is fine, I do not want to participate in a rush anyway.

SCoB was gated by gear, this got bypassed by il90 melded gear early on. The same will happen IF people are able to turn out il110 HQ before people start getting il120 from FCoB and Poetic tomes via hunts. Those ready to buy oaknot items and get their 4 star going right away should make as much gil as those first selling the il90 did, and I made millions myself on it a couple weeks after other crafters had already been selling for 2-10 times as much.

Melded HQ 110 will definitely be better than 120 in most cases, so it will be very valuable for the first couple months.

I'm glad I have ~150 oaknots saved up, 2 characters that can farm up 6 a day each, and 2 more characters a couple weeks away from farming more.

Just unlocked 4 star today and have been cranking out HQ il110 with just a penta-melded offhand. None of the new artisan clothing is needed. I am getting 80% HQ rate with all NQ mats.

It's very funny how easy the 4 star crafts are compared to everything else we have to go through in order to unlock them. Gathering the mats is quite a pain in the ass too. Literally had to abandon all my 100 desynthesis skills in order to get Allagan silk. Not about to buy Allagan silk either considering it's going for 2m each on market board.

So far nobody on our server has crafted an 110 armor piece of any kind. I guess on the lesser populated servers the WVR and LTW Allagan mats are going to be quite hard to come by for a few weeks until every 4 star crafter has converted their desynthesis skills over.

Takes like 1.5 hours to lvl leatherworker/weaver to 87. Once people start seriously grinding allegen mats they shouldn't be an issue, especially since you can get up to 5 per desynth.

4* crafts are still far enough away from almost guaranteed HQ that there is still some risk in crafting them. Any harder it just wouldn't be worth the risk crafting them for months

The desynth items for LTW are coming from what? T1-5 allagan drops?

You don't even need to desynth to get them. Just do T4 and farm the mats.

Bored with 4 stars already honestly. Rotation is laughably easy, so all that is left is waiting for stuff to sell and mind-numbing T4 farm. For some reason, I remember cracking 3 stars was much more fun.

lyrinn - from the posts I've seen you make over the months on this forum I would of been surprised if you atleast hadn't completely ace'd 4* by now.

but for most this will be a big hurdle to even get into the 4* market.

personally I've been making so much gil selling fieldcraft 3's I haven't had time to unlock the new recipes or even all the tools yet. (currently 5/8)

and as you can imagine I'm loving the failure rate on the hq trade in items.

Yeah, it's a shame that they locked 4-stars (crafted equipment) behind hard to get mats rather than hard to craft recipes. Artisan gear still has a chance of NQ which is always risky.

Then again crafting is casual content and people would probably ragequit if it was cheaper for them to buy it off the marketboard than craft it themselves because they didn't bother to learn how to properly craft
