Any new dungeons coming for 1-49?

I'd like to say first I love this game, have lots of fun with it, except when leveling for the nth time through the same dungeons.
Has the team ever mentioned any plans on expanding the list of dungeons or are they simply focused on expanding endgame?

I don't remember once them mentioning new leveling dungeons, as they tend to focus on level 50 hard modes of existing dungeons.
I admit even though I am not actively leveling a new character, their are a few stages that could do with some love.
22-28 & 35-49
Would be nice if they do eventually add more, I could see them adding more in expansion for the new race and classes.

Perhaps at expansion, but they most likely will not be adding any before then.
And they have not said anything about putting lower level dungeons

Not 1-49, but i guess with expansion more 51-60 leveling dungeons are coming (or maybe 51-75)
At the moment they focus on the future midlevel (level 50)

Unlikely any will be added for the expansion. I believe they want to raise the level cap as soon as possible. Like most MMORPGs that raise level cap, people who get X item level gear, will be overgeared for the "Normal Mode" Dungeons that come with the new level cap. Hardcores should realize this when getting into an MMORPG.

1-50 is so fast that I doubt the devs would spend much time on adding more content to an already sufficient menu of dungeons. Variety would be nice after having gone through all of those dungeons dozens of times, but on the other hand...

Yoshida: "Hi players! You'll be thrilled to hear that we are implementing several brand-new dungeons in the level 15-45 range! ...and, due to the resources required to create these fantastic, original instances for you, lvl 50+ content has been postponed until the next patch. Enjoy!"

Playerbase: "WTH YOSHI!??!!!"

I think the addition of new classes / jobs like the incoming thf/nin are a perfect timing for adding some more content to the middle levels, so I'm all for it, and I hope it happens.

Yoshi already touched on this.


No new 1-49 content for battle classes is being added in 2.4.

Nope, Yoshi said to use current content / FATE grinds.

All of the current sub-50 dungeons have a story line associated with them as you progress through the main scenario. The only ones that became available with a minor quest were the hard modes. I doubt them adding in newer sub-50 dungeons as they would likely have to add something into the main scenario to explain them.

Qarn is required for post-ultima main story. (As is Thornmarch (Hard))

Just because it was needed post original main scenario, doesn't mean the dungeon was designed for that purpose.
One would argue it was required due to how few would run that dungeon, so a quick "let's add quest item to it"
Nothing is stopping SE adding dungeons not tied to main storyline

There's not much reason to add pre 50 dungeons. A new dungeon opens up every 3-4 levels. After 15, there's no lull period.

I don't see why not. Everquest (1 and 2) has literally dozens of dungeons per level bracket (even before expansions added dozens more). Why not FFXIV too?

I really doubt they will, but I hope they do.

As much as I loved leveling up my first class, some dungeons could use some love.
Specifically, The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak.

That dungeon is the most dull, bland and boring piece of content I have ever run through.
Bosses are uninspired (Hell, first 2 bosses are exactly the same, save for a couple of adds), environments are ugly, and the dungeon just feels about 15 minutes too long. That entire end hallway is totally unnecessary.

The problem with leveling dungeons is that they are only relevant while leveling up (And do not do anything for people who already have desired jobs at level 50), some lower iLevel 50 dungeons already have this problem because attaining i90 is a joke now and there's no real benefit other than vanity. I would rather have content focused elsewhere personally, alternatively they could just have the armory bonus stack an additional 5-10% per extra job at 50. Just divide it so that each class (So crafters, gatherers, and combat) are all separately calculated in terms of that hypothetical bonus since they should be treated as such.

I would like more early dungeons but I would also be happy if FFXIV just did some work on the early dungeons to make them more fun. For starters, cut out half of Toto Rak and Tam Tara and slim down Stone Vigil and Cutter's Cry. Some of the dungeons have too many trash packs that are the same as the last packs and are busy work.

It would be great if the dungeons all took about the same time and were about 20 minutes.

Players don't spend enough time pre-50 to make it worth even having the current dungeons in the game let alone new ones.

There are more than enough dungeons for 1-49. It's endgame that matters most since that's where all players will end up eventually.

True, but the 1-30 level range is where players are going to get hooked. I'd argue that it is almost just as important as endgame.

I don't think adding more dungeons is a good idea, there are plenty already, but making some of the dull ones more exciting would go a very long way. Toto-Rak being a prime example, as I mentioned above.

There really no need for dungeons for 1-49 because we already have enough that are for those levels. But I do expect there to be new dungeons in the expansion that go from 50 to the new cap to level up in.

It should be more like during 1.x
Bigger, not smaller. And with multiple ways to the goal. A dungeon where people can get lost if they don't look at the map.

I doubt that new level up dungeons come pre 50. but there would be some new level up dungeons post 50 with the increased level cap. Or SE use the current level 50 dungeons as the new level up dungeons from 50 to new level cap and give them just new level requirements.

When I were leveling some alt job (it means, no quests left or alike), after just a couple or three run of same duty, I were high enough for the next one.

Then, yes you are playing the same duties as before, BUT you are in another job and you need play it in a different way. It is not the same thing. Those run of knows duties lets you being focused more on learn your job

I didn't know endless indistinguishable hallways was the epitome of dungeon design.

Safe to say toto rak isn't exactly popular for a very good reason, it just feels like your in a single tunnel till each boss.
So yeah if no new dungeons, please tweek the few that have been mentioned :)

Probably won't happen because XIV was developed in a way where the journey to 50 doesn't matter. IIRC, Yoshi called 1-50 a tutorial, and the end game is where the real game starts.

DC Universe Online follows the same principle. Levels 1-30 are just a tutorial on how to play the game and everything afterwards is the real game.

Looking at how fast they're trying to push new players to let them 'catch up' regardless of how well acquainted they are with the game mechanics (regardless of how simple they are), I wouldn't actually be surprised if they just neglect 1-50 and actually increased the xp gain for 1-50 so that new players coming in after expansion release can blast through the pre expansion content even faster and experience the new expansion content almost as quickly as the long time players. Level 1 to level 50 with i100+ in less than a week even?

Both of those games are also far older. When they launched, they had the same number if not fewer dungeons than FFXIV has now. Also, the leveling rate was a lot slower. Also a lot of EQ2's earlier dungeons boiled down to that game's equivalent of guildhests.

Well that was pretty much 1.0's area design in a nutshell.

Honestly speaking, I wouldn't want to see any new dungeons for level 1-49 particularly for the reason that I find it incredibly frustrating that I can't use all the skills ive gained. I don't mind the item cap but the skill cap is the biggest pain in the game.
