Just reached 3 star goldsmith. What the heck??

Okay, so as title says, just reached 3* goldsmithing. I was REALLY looking forward to making some awesome glamors for my toon, some amazing furniture for my FC etc.

But really.. what the HELL is with the price of 3 star crafting??

vortex feather - 900k
demimateria of vortex - 3 needed - 985k each
etc etc

Let's think. Maximum money (on my server yes), you make from 2 * is around 300k for, erm. dodore survival belt for example. BUT, you put about 280k into getting mats for it anyway. so it's actually only a 20k profit.

Can someone explain to me.. where on EARTH do we start to get the money for these things. I mean yeah, i love extremes and hardmodes, but i have to do this all day every day now to make money? I'm also level.. 76-ish? On desynth, but i'm judging by time spent on it already, it's going to take at least 1k more aetheryte rings?

Please, don't take this as a QQ thread, it really isn't, i just have NO idea how to actually start affording to provide these 3 star crafts.

Most 3-star items are extremely easy and cheap to make nowadays with myth mats at bottom barrel prices thanks to hunts. It's only the new 2.3 stuff that uses high level demimateria that is prohibitively expensive to make.

That has nothing to do with 3 star crafting and everything to do with how rare the mats are.

Vortex Feather - Need to farm Garuda EX, and on top of being a rare drop, it randomly goes to one of the eight players. Two layers of RNG.
Demimaterias - Need to farm Garuda HM. Not only do you need to win the rolls on loot, but the loot also has to be something you can desynth. Then you need to successfully desynth it, then hope you get demimaterias instead of some 1 star mat. Four layers of RNG.

As Espritduo said, focus on 2* and 3* crafts that don't require demimateria. It varies a lot from server to server, but these should currently turn a good profit. Also, when 2.38 hits personal housing should see people flock to buy cool housing goods, of which GSM can make quite a few.

Desynthing 1,000 Aether Rings might take you from 76 up to 79. You need to start doing higher level stuff, artisan spectacles, level 60/70 dungeon jewelry, wolf mark ilvl70 jewelry, etc.

Bottom line: If something is expensive, it means that it is probably both highly desired and hard-to-get. If it's for a Glamour item you desire, you just gotta suck it up and pony up the cash or go through the process of farming up the mats yourself and learning firsthand WHY they're priced so high.

Yeah, it is SE's telling the crafters to "bend over" and gives combat classes the total control of the market (dungeon only material drops), and making crafters non-important aspect of this game.

It's painful. I'm more than capable of running these instances, but the drop rate is pretty damn low, haven't seen one of these vortex feathers yet. So yeah, basically relying on the thousands of other combat classes running this content to put it up for a reasonable price. Which of course, they won't.

battle class get mats sell on mb you buy mats make item that the battle classes cant and wish to buy.. hmm circle there I think.

seems fair to me, especially when you can farm the items yourself and they still cant craft them.


the thing about some of theses mats is they are too expensive because the then crafted item is expensive and no one wants to pay that kind of price, like the i95 weapons. very few people have the gil for those.

chidarake, i'd seriously disagree. the prices that people have to pay on these things they "can't and wish to buy" are so high because raiders providing the actual mat for it are charging so much for it in the first place. Let's talk about that circle again?

The actual problem isn't the people selling the mats, it's the gilbuyers that are willing to buy them at any price and keep them at such crazy prices. What happens with any new and rare item is it starts out at an excessively high price as the first few sellers try to test the waters and see how much people are willing to pay for this unknown quantity. I do this with any rare thing I get, and I assume most other people do, too.

What *should* happen at this point is that as nobody pays the insanely high prices, we lower it down until it reaches the level at which people will actually start buying them. What happens instead is you get a bunch of lazy cheaters that run to their mommy's credit card and just buy whatever they want at whatever the prices are...and there's enough of them now that all the new hot items like FCIII's, primal demimateria, and what have you basically stay out of reach of the normal, legit player and only get bought by gilbuyers.

It really is annoying. I loved it when i finally finished my goldsmith melds and hit over 400 craftsmanship. "Awesome cool stuff to make now!", I thought. Then checked the board for the price of the mats.

Heck, I don't even mind making money on my account much. I tend to do so just so I can get mats to make these really cool things, which i then tend to sell or gift off market board. Damn, I'm happy when my gilpurse is sitting at about 500k lol.

How about it? Any other poor multilevelled master crafters out there?

If you happy when you have 500k total, then your really not trying to make any gil.

If you don't put in even minimal effort to try and afford the mats, then you should not be complaining about the prices imo.

All the demi materia needed can be farmed fairly easily, not need at all to buy them at crazy prices, just requires a little effort. That's the reason prices are high, because few people actually try to get them, primal demi's for example are pretty fast to farm.

1) I don't make money just to make money. See point about just wanting to make cool stuff xD
2) To afford mats, i went and levelled my miner , and my botanist, both to fifty, both 2 star. I have no problem putting work in for things.

3) Desynthesis is anything but easy and quick. Yes, I can go farm 2000 gold ore, synth them to rose gold nuggets, synth them to aetheryte rings, and then go and desynth them and start all over again. So 25 gold ore an hour nq, you do the math. Also add in possibly spending a day or so farming the shards/crystals/clusters to do so. Then add farming the materials for making artisans spectacles after all that, in the hopes my desynth is high enough to actually manage it.

No, I don't have a problem farming/spending time working on things, i think my lodestone profile shows that. I do have a problem with outrageous prices for things that, let's be honest, raiders half the time have no idea what the thing is actually for.

If your smart about how you Level Desynthesis, you can just buy the mats/items to desynth and level it while *making gil* at the same time.

Once high enough you farm Garuda HM if you want Garuda demi's.

The point is clearly misunderstood. Where do we justify the jump from 200kish for a HQ 2star item, to for example, 22 million as of last night for a Van of the Vortex?

Yes there's time and effort involved, but ultimately, 3 star crafting as an individual is stagnant until you spend a month or so getting your desynth to the point you can manage that, farming extremes for the specific items, farming HM in the hopes that the item you are trying to desynth, which actually matches your class shows up, and then hope that you win the roll against 8 other people, who may or may not be doing the same thing.

I've farmed primal demi's and it's nowhere near as hard as your making it out to be, in fact it's pretty easy.

Your saying the mats to make 1 Garuda costs 22mil?

How much for the Battle III, Feather, Garuda Demi's?

Most 3 star crafting is the i90 gears, that are now very cheap to make, so I don;t see why your moaning about the price of 3 star crafts, when it's only the i95 vanity weapons that are expensive to make.

No one has ever gotten rich by complaining and asking Square Enix for handouts.

I don't recall asking for handouts... show me that.
