Mapping out Chocobo Dye

Hello all,
My spreadsheet ss built to map per fruit type and the colours that follow after feeding it until you receive the 'begining to grow new feathers!' message. Once that is mapped, everything else should become clear as well. Here's the link: http://goo.gl/WifWVc

Massive edit!

- Added tab 'Back to default' - lists starting colour + fruit type that will go back to Desert Yellow
- Added tab 'Information' - All known info and theories are listed
- Tabs per fruit type and step by step listing of which colour is achieved

Currently I'm combing through the various forums to fish out the info that is relevant to the way I'm mapping the colours.

Known information
Amount of fruit is irrelevant. You need feed enough of 1 type of fruit to get the 'beginning to grow new feathers!' message. That message indicates that your chocobo will receive a new colour.

The amount of fruit varies, RNG. You can also skip 1 (maybe 2?) step in the line, RNG.

The most accurate way is to stop after each feather proc to check on which colour you landed. Then adjust the type of fruit (stick with 1) accordingly.

You can just feed a bunch of 1 type of fruit and count the feather procs. But like again, RNG. So you may overshoot (or maybe undershoot?) your goal.

I just read the comments you’ve added to the Google Spreadsheet and you said that you needed more verification regarding the Doman Plums turning Chocobo’s from Desert Yellow to Cream Yellow, from Honey Yellow to Cream Yellow and from Cream Yellow to Sylph Green.

That's a bit confusing to me. I'm trying to map it step by step by step. So in your case from what I gather from your post, it would be:

Desert Yellow -> Pineapple -> Honey Yellow
Honey Yellow -> Plums -> Cream Yellow
Cream Yellow -> Berries -> Lime Green

That seems to be your steps, right?

EDIT: I saw that you reset, there was more to your post. So you reset, started at default, fed plums and got to Cream Yellow.
Hmm, not sure what to do with that information. I wonder if the reset was of influence since it seems inconsistent compared to other findings. Perhaps RNG?

Shameless bump. Mapping out colours per fruit type is coming along nicely! I've appointed some volunteers among my FC mates but more help is needed!

7th Attempt

I saw the Snow White Chocobo and it's a lovely color, but i was a little bit sad about the grey feather tips, so i wanted to see what Bone White would look like. So, i decided to test of i could get to Bone White from Snow White, by adding a few Cieldalaes Pineapples.

So, here we go. (^_^ )/

Starting color: Snow White.
Chocobo Rank: 8
Stables: Good
Feed: Feed: 4x Cieldalaes Pineapple
Messages:

• 1st Feed - “Chocobo devours the Cieldalaes Pineapple. Chocobo's plumage will change in 6 hours.”
• 2nd Feed - “Chocobo devours the Cieldalaes Pineapple.”

Those are the steps i took to get from Desert Yellow to Snow White and then back to Bone White.

What we can say for sure is that you will get Honey Yellow if you feed the Pineapples to a Desert Yellow Chobobo. From that, the first few attempts were going a sideways because i thought that feeding more Pineapples didn't do anything for the Chocobo, so i switched to the Doman Plums.

The experiment would have been better if i just continued with the Pineapples until i got a new message saying that the Chocobo Colors would change, or take the Chocobo out of the Stables and feed it Doman Plums then.

The attempt that i got my Chocobo from Cream Yellow to Lime Green would have been better if i didn't use that Mamook Pear at the beginning. I think that just feeding the berries would have been enough to get the Lime Green color.

It is my belief, that every fruit you give your Chocobo effects the colour level. Only when you pass the threshold from one colour to another do you receive the message 'new feathers'
I believe the numbers effected by the fruit are RNG within a small range.

Here are a few of my tests

Chocobo #1
Desert to Cream yellow (1 message from 4 Plum)
Cream to Bone yellow (1 message from 4 Plum)
Bone to Sylph green (1 message from 4 Plum)
Sylph to Snow White (1 message from 3 Plum)

I thought, if I simply drop the amount of green in the colour Desert yellow then I should definitely need less plums to obtain snow white right? So~!

Chocobo #2
Desert yellow to Sylph green (1 message from 3 Plum, 1 message from 1 Valfruit)

I think if we find the range that each fruit effects the colours we will be able to more efficiently obtain colours.

I did start making this a few days ago... but I have stopped because of my above theory.

According to my findings that is incorrect. People have gotten to the next colour level from Desert Yellow to Cork Brown with different amounts of fruit. This amount varying from 1 to 5 O'Ghomorro Berries. If you check the response log in my sheet, you can filter it out.
My suspicion is that the amount of fruit needed is entirely RNG or stable conditions may affect it. Lord knows with SE XD

I dont know if this will help, but here are my results, which seem to correspond to the dye mapping spreadsheet.

My First attempt:

I expect that my next result will be Blood Red, then i will need to use the blue berries for 1 feather change and I should have Dalamud Red, which is my Goal. The next step would be to see if you can get that by doing it all at once...

I got Blood Red, and here is where i went next...

I'm certain i'm going to get Dalamud Red, and my dyeing days will be complete...for now

Bless your cotton socks LionFranco! That indeed is consistent with the input I'm getting from my FC mates and from the response form for my sheet. Mind you, there is still RNG involved. I mean, SE wouldn't be SE without their beloved heathen God RNGesus =P

If you are willing to reset and see if you can do it in 1 go, that'd be great. But again, RNG so you may overshoot or undershoot your goal.

- "Is beginning to grow new feathers!" message indicates that your chocobo will change colour. Is being called 'feather proc' by most now.
- Taking out your chocobo during the 6 hour waiting period will end the process and not result in a colour change.
- The amount of fruit is irrelevant. Feed 1 type of fruit until 'feather proc' is received. Your chocobo will then change colour.
- There is more than 1 way to get to a colour.
- There is definitely RNG involved. Your 'feather proc' can RNG (RNG feather proc?) and you can receive a colour that is either 'uncommon' or you can skip a step (when using 1 type of fruit).

I would like to know if others have come to the same conclusion. =]

This message simply indicates that the 6-hour timer has started. As you can see from the message "Chocobee's plumage will change in 5 hours and 47 minutes," the timer started with the first fruit, not after the proc.

The message is inaccurate and should definitely be changed. I can't think of what it can be changed to though. Sometimes you get the proc on the first fruit, so it has to make sense if that happens. Maybe it's best just to remove the message, since it already tells you the time remaining after you get the proc anyway.

I'm posting this message here as well for anyone that can use it:

I'm aiming for Ink blue.
With advice from my wife I will feed my choco till it gives the "begins growing new feathers" message.

Here is the log of what happened to me so far:
(the numbers below are the times the proc activated before I waited 6 hours)
Desert Yellow > Berries > 1 > Cork Brown
Cork Brown > Berries > 1 > Ul Brown
Ul Brown > Berries > 4 > Shale Brown
Shale Brown > Berries > 4 > Lavender Blue
Lavender Blue > Berries > 3 > Othard Blue
Othard Blue > Apple > 2 > Plum Purple

I didn't see that last one coming since it wasn't on the list.
Just now I fed it berries till I saw the proc pop 3 times, hopefully this will land me on Royal Blue, after which I'm going to feed it Apples till it procs 2 times, which will then land me on Rolanberry Red I hope.

If anyone has got a better plan, I'm all ears. (In fact, if you have a better plan I'll take you to a planet where everyone is all ears.)

An update on my progress!
Started out with Default Chocobo. Half of the FC named their Chocobos Steve, so we shall call him thusly.

Desert Yellow - Berries -> feather proc -> Cork Brown - Berries -> feather proc -> Ul Brown - Berries -> feather proc -> Gobbiebag Brown - Berries -> feather proc ->
Aldgoat Brown - Berries -> feather proc -> Shale Brown - Berries -> feather proc -> Goobbue Grey - Berries -> feather proc -> NOTHING - Berries ->Lavender Blue - Berries -> Awaiting results

More people have gotten an RNG bust on a feather proc it seems. This is my theory behind it anyway.
It stands to reason that when you have an RNG feather proc that skips ahead, that you would have an RNG bust feather proc.

Information and theories so far:

Current known information:
1) "Plumage will change in 6 hours" ONLY indicates that the 6 hour timer has started. It does NOT mean your chocobo will change colour
2) "Is beginning to grow new feathers!" message indicates that your chocobo will change colour. Is being called 'feather proc' by most now.
3) Taking out your chocobo during the 6 hour waiting period will end the process and not result in a colour change
4) The amount of fruit is irrelevant. Feed 1 type of fruit until 'feather proc' is received. Your chocobo will then change colour.
5) There is more than 1 way to get to a colour.
6) There is definitely RNG involved. Your 'feather proc' can RNG (RNG feather proc?) and you can receive a colour that is either 'uncommon'
or you can skip a step (when using 1 type of fruit).
7) Mass feeding fruits and counting feather procs seems to be more and more of a bad idea. It seems you can keep getting a lot of feather procs but it caps and you won't end up where you want to be.

Speculation:
1) Stable condition may influence amount of fruit needed - Does not seem to be the case so far
2) Mixing fruits is not needed. It takes an x amount of 1 type of fruit, until feather proc is received, to get to a colour.
3) Resetting with Han Lemon may cause some variables when you go back to using 1 type of fruit. One anomaly encountered so far
4) Theories about colour loops are showing up - This may be due to RNG feather procs?
5) 'Rare' colours start to show up in a fruits colour-tree. For example, Lilac Purple in the O'Ghomorro Berry group and Mesa Red in Xelphatol Apples. Is more RNG feather proc?
6) Amount of fruits vary somewhat. Not sure what threshold there is to get the proper 'beginning to grow new feathers!' message for a colour change
7) 'Deepening fruit will decrease the RGB value. ''Lightening fruit will increase the RGB value. Mainly apply this to the colour you are looking for. This is an estimate.
8) Does the RNG feather proc also make you 'skip' to a colour normally received from another type of fruit? But still stays within in the same range to go down
the normal line. Example: Default -> Doman plum -> Cream Yellow -> Doman Plum -> Sylph Green.
9) Colours (or colour range) obtained from fruits are presets with an element of RNG. Yes, presets are based on RGB but they are still presets.
10) In following #9, the further colours are from each other the more fruit it might take to get to the next one in line?

Guess I'll give you a little info on where I'm at.

Desert Yellow -> fed an assload of pears with multiple feather messages (was new at feeding)
Lime Green -> fed more pears until 3 messages
Apple Green -> fed berries until message
Cactuar Green -> fed berries until feathers message
Torquoise Green -> fed berries until feathers message
Peacock Blue -> fed berries until feathers message
Othard Blue -> ?

No idea where I want to go from here. I like this color.

I think that's what I am seeing with my Dalamud Red/ Blood Red Loop. Dalamud + Apples should have a chance at going to Wine Red, but I think I "fail" and drop back a step to "Blood Red" (I didn't come up to Blood Red through the Desert Yellow-> Blood Red, though.) . My husband's chocobo went from Royal Blue right to Midnight Blue, though. Some of what we are seeing in terms of the "looping" we see, and other seeming anamolies is due to bugs. Some must be cropping up.

I keep thinking that the system hue based and you move through the spectrum. Like this image. I've been working to map the colors that way (Spectrum Colors Tab on my spreadsheet), a pattern is emerging - it's not perfect because we have to remember that it's designed how they wanted it to be. And sometimes I have to squint at the colors to figure out if they are more one color than another... especially the dark ones!

Just wish I knew where I went wrong! Haha! Somehow I've gone:

Desert Yellow --> (Plums)--> Sylph Green--> (Plums) ---> Bone White

Was aiming for Celeste Green, but I guess I got off track somewhere! :P

I've been thinking about the weather being a factor, as many others.
Lets say like;
Sunrise/Sunset - increase the value of apples
Fair Midday - increase value of plums
Clear Midnight - Increase value of berries
Rain - increase value of valefruit
Clear Midday - increase value of pineapple

just an example, but the weather seems to effect a lot of of things already in the game, wouldn't surprise me if it had a role here as well.

Still on my quest to Grape Purple, 14 colors later.

I'm now at Abyssal Blue from Wine Red, if someone could help me before I go insane please chime in. I've looked at the charts and followed them with no success, I've sat at a simulator/calculator that tells me it should be Grape for over an hour and the feed put me where I am now. The last time I was at Rolanberry Red I fed one pear message like Alinah's chart showed and it took me to Wine Red.

First of all, I highly suggest we start by doing all these test with a clearly defined set of RGB code.

As I have stated back in my experiment post, the old RGB code is off because it was screen capture, and you can have as much as +/-16 for the same color block on the RGB value. We will not see any clear results when the base colors are all over the place.

The following is *all* based on my own defined RGB that is set to the 8th scale (rounded up or down based on general avg value observed), and I am throwing the dataset in to further the discussion that may answer some of the questions you have bough up

DISCUSSION:
T6: The RNG is within the range of value |48|, and from here the next preset RGB code is selected based on the fruit behavior.
FACT:
The game must follow 3 behaviors,
1. Fruit behavior
2. Use pre-set values
3. Follow real color behavior

Possible RGB value within the |48| range.

S1: Weather/Stable condition has nothing to do with any of this, as 6 hrs of RLT cycles thru many days in game time. If any of these affects the outcome, there would be many chances of RNG.

S4-S12: Same as T6

At Dalmud red now, fed all apples until now. Just did a feed with all berries to get Regal Purple (To go with my Dragoon Barding!)
This is my 6th color step, Millicorn Yellow - Pumpkin Orange - Sunset Orange - Blood Red - Dalmud Red (Which is AWESOME.... but clashes with my barding, LOL) -- Hopefully Regal Purple.

it might be that it goes;
Rolanberry red - wine red - grape purple - currant purple

But the only found I had of someone feeding pear to Rolanberry red was that it became grape purple, but as stated, you can jump colors, might be that he jumped a color and you didn't. Would you like to try to feed it one more pear and see what happens? :)

Would 1 pear from Abyssal Blue put me there or is that under the assumption I make it back to Wine?

The colors I've gone now most recently have been

Deepwood Green (added 2 Plum 2 Pineapple 1 Valfruit) --> Regal Purple (added 2 Plum 6 Pineapple 9 Valfruit) --> Rolanberry Red (added 5 Pears) --> Wine Red (added 5 Plum 3 Valfruit based off a simulator) --> Abyssal Blue

Well if you're abyssal blue atm try apple (only), wait for the grow new feathers message. You should be at Rolanberry Red.
Then feed Pear (only), see where you end up if you end up at wine again, then we know that wine is the middle color between rolanberry red and grape purple. Looking at it though, it would make ALOT of sence if it was.

I'ld suggest you stop feeding it so many different foods aswell, take the time. It's easier to get to the wanted color if you know where you are on the map. Specially when you're so close.

An update, 3 procs with Berries after this turned my choco Royal Blue, I just fed it Apples again till I got 2 procs, this didn't lead me to RolanBerry Red but to Regal Purple instead.
I'll proc it twice by feed it berries for now and I'll try a pear tomorrow morning to try and get out of this loop.

Is there any sort of thread, webpage, or anything that actually shows pictures of all the potential Chocobo colors? Just curious!

Finally, a number cruncher! You're more than welcome to be added to my sheet and change all the RGB values to your calculations. I like how you consolidated the RGB + preset theories and made it into one plausible theory.
I am no number cruncher by any means but you actually make sense.

I tried to help him before, but he's taking the advice of people in the "Chaos Thread" which means feeding multiple types of fruit in one session. Which I just cannot agree with on something like this or almost any other time. Yours kills two birds with one stone, better chance for him to get grape and more confirmation on where the heck wine red is.

Edit: Seems like someone in the Chaos Thread has some kind of calculator/simulator for choco colors going on. I know this is mean, and I'm sorry, but I just find that to be lol funny. You can't really effectively "Calculate" something to that level that has RNG in it. It's just a fancier way of "counting fruit" to a certain color. And how did that work out?.. -.-

For the first 8 feedings I was following the "feather message" one type of fruit feeding and was not only getting random colors that were listed differently or not listed at all but also got stuck in a 24 hour loop of Regal Purple and Royal Blue. I tried feeding multiple fruits because plenty of other people were coming up with stuff close or exactly what they were looking for.

It's not that I don't want to listen, it's just that neither thing was producing results similar to other people doing either method so really I'm just at a loss as to why this color is being much more of a bother to get then a lot of the others.

If you feel like mapping out for me where to go from Loam Brown I'm all for it because that's where I'm stuck at now.

Hi, I'm currently at Pumpkin Orange, will probably be at Sunset Orange in 6 hours (I just feed some apples to my Chocobo). From there, what would you guys suggest to get closer to Chocolate Brown?

(PS : I already tried Mamook Pears from Sunset Orange, but I went back to Pumpkin Orange instead)
