Yeah :O Very exciting. Triple Triad was my favorite of the Final Fantasy card games, I'm really pumped. I wonder how similar/different it will be from the FFVIII version. I hope its not limited to just inside the Golden Saucer though.
I hope there is risk reward and you can take your friends' cards. :P
I saw this, and went straight to Mog Station to extend my sub.
However, there seems to be a lack of an "All My Money" option.
SqEnix please let me give you all my money.
I remember that game from FF8
I hope it isn't identical... Triple Triad was 'OK', Tetra Master was a lot more fun but broken.
Here's my suggestion, hope they read it:

They should still have the elemental affinity cards, but have the effect do nothing just like the main game.
Triple Triad is one of my favorite minigames ever, so I'm super pleased to hear this!
I wanna be able to challenge random NPCs to matches, though, like in FF8.
I hope they bring in the concept of card queen or card master and having different rules for Limsa, Uldah and Gridinia. Make the rules able to be changed if enough players play in a zone. And make some super rare cards that drop from world bosses or dungeons!
I definitely hope you lose a card(s) when you lose a match. That would make the card game more exciting, IMO.
I kinda feel like being able to lose cards - while an interesting mechanic - would just discourage people from using their 'good' cards, or possibly even playing at all.
They could have different card rules so players can choose before the start of each match if they want to play for an opponent's card or if its more like a friendly match where you don't win or lose any cards. I would definitely play for cards though, makes it more thrilling and exciting.
Just have us build points from playing matches, which can be used to buy good cards. This will encourage people more.
I thought I should mention to people of this thread, a Triple Triad indie website existed for a long time (maybe it still does) with people playing the game in flash or something. They had decks for every game made up. The veteran players figured out precise combos of decks that were extremely difficult to beat by how numbers arranged/the cards could be placed down, or decks designed for usage with Same/Plus/Wall rules and etc. The meta reached ridiculous levels and a bunch of the oldest players just had 90%+ win rates and gobbled any newb who showed up. Not many new folks stayed to play as a result. The population dropped from hundreds daily to just being the same dozen people forever and ever, and anyone new was almost instantly discouraged by the extreme reaming they got.
I just hope that sort of pattern doesn't happen in 14 as well.
Thats the whole point in the card game. If you played FFVIII and you used a Squall card, if you lost it and didnt have the cards to get it back...its gone forever.
Also since this is a MMO, there would be a endless amount of cards, even if some are rare there will more than ONE.
If you can't lose your cards then there isn't the challenge and its just a collecting sidegame.
I don't get how the card game is the only thing people liked enough out of VIII that they put it in near half of the following titles...
Wish they had made a new game like they originally said instead of just reusing an older one.
Agreed, I really hope that the system has some depth to it.
1. I'd like it if we could challenge NPCs in different areas, and that the NPCs that are currently in the game we could play against, they would have their own ranks and until we reaches a certain rank, they wouldn't accept our challenge. This would be one good way to earn cards.
2. Challenge Other Players, hopefully this won't require a table to play, but I could see them setting up special areas for this. I think to get around people spam challenge players, you could have settings that say you don't want to be challenged in the open world, and only play at tables, etc.
3. I hope that they have a tournament at some point, that would be a blast.
Really looking forward to this. :)
We've played around with this game at EoFF a lot, challenging each other and so forth. Honestly, the best games were always the games where there was a limit to how high a card you could play. When people start breaking out the supercards the fun is lost. It's insane how far the thinking ahead can go when you play with L1 cards only. :D
Delighted it's coming back.
In game event tournaments would have huge possibilities.
Soken remix please
Hmmm. If they put bosses as part of the collection of cards that will be in the game. I wonder what card would the likes of bosses, such as "Twintania" and the last boss of T9 will be like?
This could be one hell of a time sink if its done correctly...
I wonder how we'll go about finding new cards, or high tier ones. (outside of battling NPC)
I will make a deck entirely out of Merlwyb cards.
Meh, it's not Tetra Master, so i dont really care... This one is broken beyond repair.
The cards better not be craftable 3 star items.
I'd love if there were some kind of craftable item you could use on a mob, that killing it would give you a small chance to receive the mob's card. Like Quetzacoatl's Card ability, but FFXIV-ified. It could work on any mob, including bosses. Make it like a 5% success rate.
Want a Twintania card? Buy a stack of 99 for 2k apiece and start grinding T5!
A timesink, a gilsink, and the best FF minigame ever conceived in one package.
Tetra Master was a better card game, imo. I hope the FFXIV version is more like that.
Edit: ugh, I think I was too sleepy when I posted this. I got them mixed up. Triple Triad, the one from FF8, is definitely the better one.
What do you guys think about the methods of obtaining cards & play presented here?
I really think a fusion of both Triple Triad & Tetra Master not based in painful RNG would be best.

I agree that a Ragnarok Online system would be nice. By this I mean a rare chance of on kill the monster drops it's card.
I would love for this to be a huge timesink in this game.
I agree, I'm very happy but hope its not a direct copy.
would also love to equip certain cards for effects, like maybe a deck slot ;)
Personally I would like it but it will never happen. People are up in arms over 1% atma drop rate. Imagine what would happen if they made it 0.02% drop rate like mvp cards from RO. Took me 6 months to farm 2x abysmal knight card for my champion but it was worth it in the end.
