Thanks SE. Now instead of spending another few weeks getting my novus, I can instead spend that time trying to find another way to make gil and buy materia that will inevitably be inflated to several times their current price because no one can spirit bond in dungeons.

Also, in case anyone was wondering why I converted that robe, it was just something I used a long time ago. Now that I have a daystar robe, and I can't sell it because it was bound to me, it was just sitting in my retainer.

You can still SB, and in fact you have more options for SBing than ever before. You just need to be smart about what you're SBing and where.

I know, I read that thread after I posted this. I'm still not too happy though. Now I can't spirit bond unless that's the only thing on my agenda. So no more getting spirit bonding done while doing my roulettes and such. Oh well

If I convert a gear piece of level 30 or higher, I am guaranteed at least grade II. If I convert a piece of level 45 or higher, I am guaranteed grade III or IV. Why in the name of Thal's week-old jock strap would you think it acceptable for an item with literally TWICE that minimum level for guaranteeing tier III still be able to give tier III materia?

Has anyone confirmed if spiritbonding within the 'preferred range' of an area's item level is actually faster than before, and if so, by how much? My understanding of reports is that it is about double the previous rate, but I'm unclear what the initial rates were.

If it is noticable, doing Urth's Gift in i49 would be a dramatically improved option over what it was already - important for both crafting IV's and Novus farming.

(I don't approve of the change to i70 gear, FWIW - that crap is too EXPENSIVE to not yield at least IV's.)

But here's the thing about that. Tier IV is the highest tier. If everything i70+ is guaranteed to yield a tier IV, the market will be flooded with tier IV, and there goes everyone's cash cow. Especially since now if you have the right gear in the the right place, SBing is faster than it used to be.

I think many are missing the fact that IVs are practically unattainable now. Not that we can't SB anymore. How do we reliably and economically obtain IVs is the real issue here. Until we see proof of someone getting a DET IV from a Zircon earring (lv50) then it's a waste of time and money to SB said items. Again, How do we get IVs?

I've gotten a Might IV, Vit. IV, and Eye IV from i44-49 gear just this morning. They didn't change that and they didn't say they were. I'll get an image of my next sb, but you can go to Urth's Gift and people that are sb'ing there will tell you that they are still getting the Tier IVs from time to time.

Getting level 4 materia has and always will be RNG, just like everything else in this game.

Hell, I once SB'd a LV90 ring and what did I get? Lightning 4. Yep.

This is the exact opposite of what SE should be doing to alleviate what were already ridiculous prices on tier 4 materia.

Here's an idea...
So we have Mutamix, who knows all about materia and such.
How about we bring him a powerful item, infused with our essence from countless battles... IE bonded I90 gear.
And Mutamix, being the knowledgeable goblin that he is, provided with such a powerful infused item, can use his expertise to extract ANY form of Grade IV materia from it.

So go get a crafted I90, which is a pain. Bind it via ~5 ST runs, which are a pain. Go over to Mutamix and click through a long goblin diatribe, which is a pain... Get a grade 4 materia. Done.

I was going to be able to get my novus today but now I don't know if I ever will. Prices on grade 4 material were already high this move by SE has already drove them up by 170,000

Making it so people wont sb low level gear in high level dungeons I understand, but this move of making it so lv 70 gear no longer gives grade 4's is utter bs and without justification and excuse. All it's going to do is mess up the market and make it harder than ever for people to complete their novus weapons, or to get material to meld into their I90 crafted gears, which was already costly enough to begin with. I've actually lost all motivation to keep playing because of this nonsense. Get a brain SE

From time to time is different from 100%. Right before maint I was crafting and converting level 70 gear for my novus because the material I needed already cost more than I could afford. Only had enough gil to buy 1 and needed 8 assuming no fails in infusing, screw SE on that one too. Every convert got me a grade 4, each time got least 1 of the material I needed. Now just converted 6 items 4 were grade 3. The 2 grade 4's were stupid earths and fires, and the material I needed was a grade 3. So to go from 100% chance of grade 4 and 100% chance to get least 1 of what I needed every round, to 10% chance to get grade 4 and almost non existent chance to get what I need as a grade 4 isn't much of a consolation. So instead of getting my novus today I can get it in another month from now or more if I am willing to stuck my thumb up my butt and SB at Urth's gift mindlessly all day every day? Wippie.

I got two Savage Might IV's today from SB'ing in urths. Both right side Rubellite accessories. 2 SM IV's and 3 SM III's, I guess rngesus finally smiled apon me. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket tonight >.>

That's a pretty mangled thought there. I can certainly respect other people's first language isn't English but we'll need some help deciphering what you mean.

As far as the benefit to crafters, since it's now harder to get tier 4's it means more items needed per tier 4 which means more items bought from crafters to accomplish that.

But, it depreciates the value of crafted i70's and i90's since their value for converting has gone way down.

So it's probably a detriment to crafters in the long run.

What are you smoking really...Pre-patch on Shiva there was no flood of IVs in fact prices of a single DET/CRIT IV were 50 times higher than III. Philo mats arent exactly abundant and it got to ridicilous point where crafting i90 is actually cheaper than i70 if you actually invested in your crafting gear to be able to make them.

Even if you can SB slightly faster and from say full jewelry set i70 you get 3x Elemental III + 2x Mainstat IVs = worth it right? Id suggest to go SB as much as you can get thoset SA/SM IVs and fail a couple whether its on i90 gear or Novus scroll then well talk.

Unless youve found youreself a reasonable way to make money then things got helluva harder for you especially if youre not invested into crafting doh.
Personally id like to see/hear SE explain reasoning behind this change specifically. As if we dont have enough Grinding to do...Atma/Animus/Novus materias for scrolls/weekly ST if youve got bad RNG.

I think what Eekiki meant was (cmiiw) SBing in 1.0 which I recall takes around twice as long as what we have now. And I do admit, SBing in ARR feels faster now, despite the recent patch change. ^^;

I just wish they would phase out the elemental materia. I know it's a carryover from 1.0, but clearly elemental materia is totally worthless in ARR.

I think everyone here would agree with that sentiment.
Simply put, the sheer amount of elemental resist you would need to add onto your gear to have a noticeable effect is impractical... and its only for 1 of 6 elements.

Right now we have a roughly 50/50 split of "useful" and "useless" materia in terms of endgame gear.

Useful:
Str - extra dps for tanks using vit accessories.
Vit - extra health for undergeared people in progression.
Pie - extra mana, especially useful for WHM.
Crit / Det / Acc / Skill Speed / Speed Speed - All good.
8 useful materia.

Useless:
Dex / Int / Mind - All naturally capped on gear.
All 6 Elemental Materia - See beginning of post.
9 useless materia.

Can we at least get rid of the 6 useless elemental materia?
There is no longer a guarantee of getting a 4 from anything, and on top of that, there is a 9 in 17 chance of getting something completely useless... Why?

This is what I read too. Because from my understanding i70+ crafting armors had a place in the economy as being IV materia fodder. Now that's gone, it seems like it would be a waste to try to spend any gil buying i70 crafted armor to yield a grade III materia.

How so? It doesn't seem like DoHs have a real advantage over anyone here. They can make i90 craft armor and convert it into materia that is worth 1/6th of the cost of craft now. Am I missing something maybe?

For gears where these stats are not capped (crafted NQ gear, like from quest rewards)

This change just doesn't make much sense in my head. SBing is faster now if done in ideal places, sure, but for i70 stuff the cost of materials can be very high. They need to adjust the recipes to require fewer GC bought/ dungeon found materials and/or add acquisition methods (ie. put them on unspoiled nodes). The biggest concern I'd have with the i70 stuff is that I could easily lose money SBing it.

Moreover, i55 stuff has the same rate of tier IV conversion as before, is much cheaper to buy/ make, and SBs faster now against ideal targets.

The only way the change to tier IV conversion would make sense to me is if the recipes/ materials for i70 stuff were changed to make them much cheaper and i90 stuff was still either 100% conversion or at least a very high rate. At this point I think the i90 stuff is actually cheaper to make with better materia yields, though from what I've seen they're still pretty low.

Well, I guess Yoshi doesn't want people making new novus weapons ever. Time to start grinding more hunts like the almighty overseers want!

It's a carryover from 1.0 but almost certainly has remained as a means of artificially inflating the value of desirable stat materia. This is actually important for keeping the cost of valued materia like DET IV high, as well as to maintain even the existence of a materia market. If every piece of converted gear turned into a secondary stat, (with say, VIT on tank pieces and PIE on healing) not only would prices of all of them plummet, but there's a modest possibility the market would vanish, as if you wanted a materia you could just go spiritbond your own gear and either use it or /shout "trading DET IV for CRIT IV." Certain materia might maintain a higher value, e.g. 3 PIE IV per DET IV, but the actual gil value of all of these would regardless be vastly reduced.

(IMO this is not the solution, we need a reduction on philo mat usage for i70 goods to alleviate the prohibitive price on those rather than pushing i90 up even further but w/e it's not my game)
Gatherers already have relatively tiny profits for their drastically over-supplied goods, such a shift would completely phase out their value as anything other than shard farmers.


So no, they should not take out elemental materia, it would obliterate the market and one of the primary valuations of DoH/DoL, just so the handful of DoW/DoM that have completed through Animus can get Novus sliiiightly faster.

Ilvl70 not droping IV ? Okay IVs are the highest tiers so yeah.

Ilvl90 not deoping IV ? Ehmmmm...(starts crafting iLVL49 whites)

I'm just as confused! The SB limitations make sense to me. You can and SHOULD SB stuff whose ilevels correspond with the dungeon. But now that i70-i90 crafts don't guarantee IV materia, who in their right mind would buy those crafted armors? This might devalue the crafting armors even more than they already are.

No one is being vocal about it but thist change doesn't seem to help anyone at all. No one will SB i70-i90 stuff and if they do they will be gambling a large amount of gil. You are better off only SBing i55 stuff now as they are cheap and easiest to SB, and still give you a chance at an IV.

I saw IV materia for almost 500k today.

So much for 1.0 gil "redenomination". Also looking at you shards.

This statement is blatantly false. Spiritbonding in dungeons is still possible. The difference is that you are now required to spiritbond only gear of equivalent item level to the item level requirements you happen to be in. What this means is that your spiritbonding dungeon runs should be done in dungeons like Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep and other low item level level 50 dungeons, instead of doing them in Syrcus Tower.

That said there is nothing preventing you from Spiritbonding in Urth's Gift, Northern Thanalan, or Mor Dhona, as all three of those locations have level 45-50 mobs in them which is more than sufficient for spiritbonding most things.
