It can even be a paid "optional service" - I don't care.
Like so many others, I wasn't aware of the Lore-friendly naming systems and I sooo want to change my lalafell's name to fit the Lore now. :(

there's a way to do it now via server transfer.
1.) find a server and make a new character with your name on it
2.) transfer your current character to that server, since there's a duplicate name the server will ask you to change your name
3.) transfer back to your server or stay
4.) more profit for SE
I had considered that, but I don't see why I should have to pay out for transfers when all I want is a name change. I'm also a guild master, so I don't think leaving is a viable option anyway.
Are you serious? you just said this.
Then you say I don't see why I should pay out haha but you don't care? So what if they decided to make the cost 36 bucks to change name? same cost as a server transfer what then.Quote:

18 there and 18 back.
Also if you did jump server to rename, just hope you don't choose a name that was on the server you was on to begin with,
Honestly, i was always confused that fantasia option didn't include this option.
Do a little search. I don't remember in which it is, but in one of the countless threads like yours that were made, Yoshi P replied that such thing is in the works. It just isn't ready yet. It definitely is coming though, since Fantasia has been made limitlessly available, and people may want to change their name to fit their new race's naming conventions.
Hell, maybe it was even in a LIVE letter, I really don't remember.
I understand how you feel but this is your ONLY option if you want to change your name, No way around that as even if they suddently annouced a name change service today it wouldn't even be implemented anytime soon.
As for FC if you are that serious about name changing, give leader to someone you trust, Leave it, make preparations by making a character with name to change, switch server, change name, wait 3 days, come back, change name. Rejoin, get lead back.
There you have it, yes it's an annoying process and costly, but it's the only way right now. unless of course you remake your character (yea, right)
Yeah.. A friend of mine switched servers to "find a better one" and he came back with a different name, lol. Kind of jealous.. Might do it myself some day except for the fact of me losing my entire friends list..
EDIT: + losing linkshells, I presume
It should just be build in fantasia potion.
Hell wow does it in every single appearance/race/faction change they have so i don't see why its not in the potion.
"Heh, I'm going to name my Roe 'Stinky Farts'. So hilarious! It will NEVER get old!" *Two months later:* "I want a name change. :<"
More seriously, though, the biggest argument AGAINST name-changing is that it takes away pretty much the only form of self-policing available to players: Ostricization. When someone earns a bad reputation, players should have the ability to recognize and avoid them, and to warn other players about them. GMs can only do so much, and there's a LOT of crap that douchebag players can pull off that GMs can't touch. Giving players a method to completely change their identity (both appearance and name) means that players can easily escape a bad rep whenever they want.
If SE is going to implement a name change ability, they will also need to overhaul the blacklisting system; make it so that if someone on your Blacklist changes their name, their entry on your Blacklist also changes. Additionally, it'd be helpful if you're able to tag names on your Blacklist with reasons why you put them there, so you don't accidentally remove them whenever you're purging gilsellers names from your list to make room.
I would pay . . . probably $25 to change my name at the very most. It is Ehayte Feytes, meant to be pronounced "Eight Fates," not "I Hate FATES." I made this character on day one of the game, I had no idea that FATES were a thing.
I neither hate nor love FATEs, but I do hate when people are like, "Hahaha nice name man! I hate FATEs too! High five!"
I support this: just like coming later, we might finally have our FC emblem on the left side of our names (like the new players green sprout) - I am pretty sure they can make a symbol on the right for those who have been blacklisted or having a bad reputation (like PK in other games where your name turns red)
I find it costly for my taste to switch server for 18$. Switching back, 36$. Well, that was only to change my first and last name, so it will stay that way for sure ^^
If they would bring glamour sets for specific races and or jobs, they would have my money there instead. Doesn't affect any stats so it doesn't imbalance the game, same for Mounts and Minions <-- Hint for SE, you could make more profits! (I'm sure your financial department would love it ^^)
*I shall wait for the 8-man chocobo..
Exactly! I thought you could change everything with that magical potion.. How wrong we were >.< We've been duped!
X.X
I feel for you.
As for the whole name change thing, Yoshida and Co seem to be suggesting that something in the back end is preventing them from implementing the service, which is entirely plausible given the short time frame they had for completely reworking the game. I think at this point it might be easier if they just have it work like a typical server transfer, where you must be out of a FC, no housing, and you lose your friend's list and blacklist. At that point they'd just be copying the process they use to change names on server transfers, which is an already working system. That would satisfy people for the short term while they work on a more long term solution.
But in all seriousness, the idea of changing names would be both annoying and confusing. I once played a game called RuneScape and they let you change your character name once a month for free if you had a active subscription.
It was annoying because everyone would change their name. It was confusing because if you did not keep track of everyone on your friends list you would not know who is who.
The only reason the current method of changing names does not have this problem^^^^^^is because when it happens you lose your friends list. And if who you lost on your list was truly our friend, you or s/he would make contact somehow(even if ti means one of you stalking the known FC house. lol.)
Besides. Your name is part of your identity. You could end up going into Duty Roulette tomorrow and finding some long lost companion you met a long time ago in Duty Roulette. Without your name you would lose experiences like this. Your name is your identity and your character develops with that name.
If I was Square-Enix, which I'm not, I would want people to keep their names so they fit themselves in the community. Not someone who just changed their identity as if they're putting on a mask every time they get bored with their name or it becomes irrelevant over time.
And if you do not like your name then that is your fault. Choosing a name is very important and it seems a lot are not very good at it. I have no regrets with my name except that I wish I did not shorten my first name, Morzone, into Morzy because no one ever knows my full name unless I tell them. And I get that some don't think like I did when I chose this name.. but sometimes we have to live with the choices we make.
And hey be proud of who you are. You made it through this with that whacky name of yours.
In response to Morzy, some people just get bored of their characters and do not have the time to roll a new one. If I value the time I spend on my single character so much and want to experience end game as it happens, making new characters isn't an option I can afford.
Its so you can't be a troll and then just change your name when you get blacklist or worse, maybe you rob an f c and use your phantasia and change your name.
People should have to keep their name, and the reputation they've built associated with it, imo.
Also, pretty much what Morzy said a couple posts up.
Until they get bored of their character and leave the game, thus leaving us with one less person to play with. No one can play the same thing forever, and saying they can't change their character because we have some rotten apples only makes things worse, not better.
I would not want people to be able to change their name for reasons already stated (reputation) UNLESS their previous name was permanently displayed in their search info so there'd be no escaping it completely.
Stuff like that gets invalidated the instant this game was announced as cross world dungeons with server transfers.
You can be biggest arse on the planet and just server transfer a way so what does rep matter?
Good rep will get earned easily back anyway once people realizing it is you.
I would pay real money the second they added this feature... I got sick of being a lalafell (some people hate them for some reason / I was getting a lot of creepy interactions in game...) so now I have a lalafel lore name as a hyur, which obviously doesn't fit. I've already had a couple people ask me about it and it's going to get old pretty soon. :/
As it stands right now, the fantasia is useless for anyone with a lore or gender specific name.
Again, it's confirmed to be in the works.
I swear it takes SE years to do the most basic things.
Took for ever to get server transfers.
Took for ever to get character changes.
And we still don't have name changes. Wildstar had all of those options plus more in a few weeks to a month after it's release. I believe it actually had emergency server transfers a few days after.
For the people that's against it, seriously just stop.
Id also pay for this, when I 1st started playn I expected this to be like many of the other RPG's Iv played, one character for each class/job, so I normally named them to the role I intend them to play, well... that dont really work in ARR, so now im stuck with a character with a "themed" name, that plays whatever Job.
What's the cool down time period between server transfers? ;o
At this point I think theres a few things we can all agree on..
1: We already have this option with the world-transfer service. The only difference POSSIBLE is we would change our name AND keep our social standing(friends list, linkshells, black list, FC, things like that..)
2: Loss of reputation does not matter UNLESS YOU ARE ON PLAYSTATION* since it happens even easier with the world-transfer method as you lose your social standing and quite literally have a clean slate. The only way for anyone to uncover your new name is either you/someone telling them or someone recognizing you.
*: While name changing(either by world transfer or a new method) if you are playing on PS3 or PS4 it does not matter how many times you change your name because your PSN ID will forever be locked in your examine info. That is the only thing I know for sure that does not change.
So, I mean. If you really want to change your name.. The option is there. And if you think transferring worlds TWICE is too much then I say beggars can't be choosers.
