umm 10gb in patches from fresh install....

I dont know whether Ill be able to get all this...

I did bail early on in the game... true enough. I think I had a char that was getting up there in levels (which really means a couple classes I think my scholar could also have a pet class, one that had a pretty hardcore daemon or something).

I am excited now to be rejoining the fight. But 10 gb... Some of us do have limits on our downloads/month.

So are the updates worth ??:)

You can't play without the updates so it's a matter of "Do you want to play this game again?"

Also get an ISP that doesn't limit bandwidth.

They've added alot since release, it makes sense that it'd be 10g. You've got both Coils, both Towers, 6-7 dungeons both normal and hard mode, the gear from Coil, Tower, the dungeons and PvP, the ever changing Revenant's Toll, 2 primals... and that's just the stuff I can remember, the list goes on. 10g, I'm surprised it's not more.

Yes, actually I do want to play again. Been long enough to give it another try. And all things told - any game where I can play my chosen name (some grobblehole has stolen my name on every other mmo and every server!) is worth a peek. Though I laugh now I may want to try a diff class!

And ISP that doesnt limit bandwidth? For my area there IS NO OPTION.

Welcome to modern video games/MMOs. 10gb is nothing.

I think you can do a fresh install, then copy a friend's ffxiv folder into your comp and overwrite your freshly installed files.

Asking Developers to conform to people with monthly bandwidth limitations only hinders the lifespan of the game and is unfair to the vast majority that don't have those restrictions.

For situations like that, there are things you need to do on your end to compensate. e.g. Keeping a backup copy of your install, Downloading at a cafe, etc

The Crew beta was 15gb and that isn't even the full game. Petition your ISP for a better bandwidth limit because 10gb is nothing. Yeah, it sucks, but store bought games get more and more phased out every year in favor of digital downloads and possibly streaming in the future.

Sounds like it might be time to update the installer, SE!

I can't understand why SE didn't update client after each major patch.
Like SE allow us to play lower version.

It makes me think SE is just being lazy to upload the new version.

Name three major MMO releases that update the client after every major patch. Or, really, at all within their first year of launch. Three! (One might be too easy, so I'm asking for a trend of them and not just one outlier that can afford the development time and money to support this idea.)

Confirmed as i had no choice BUT to do that with another PC i had that can't play this game, i simply installed it fully on that one then USB the files over to the playing PC, worked perfectly, otherwise they STILL have not fixed this launcher issue.

I can list about 10 mmo where the updates may be alot, but aint nowhere near 10 gb.

As a final note; limiting your customers to those with the 'best pc' (mine is WAY beyond solid for this) and 'best connections' (my ping is 25ms but I have limits on how much i can download... and my limits are ALOT higher than alot- and i pay for it)

Such a policy going to limit just who can or even want to sign up for the service. The defense of pretty limited tech policy... dont make you anybodys hero:)

Im in Alaska so i feel your pain about bandwith limits companies up here are super high strung about it. kinda regret moving back up here lol

Actually, 2.# is pretty relaxed in requirements on system and connection. 1.# was a cow, only cutting edge computers could handle it and if you had anything less than DSL you were going to have suffer unconscionable lag in everything, including the UI. Yes, including the UI.

And I can name a PS3 title that required me to do an 18gb patch.

And I've never played an MMO that is a year old, with no expansions NOT have a 10-19gb patch from a fresh install. Heck the other day I had to do a 12gb update for WoW because I hadn't played it for awhile.

10 GBs are nothing for average ISP nowadays. unless you're using some unstable service like Wi-Fi or cellphone internet that comes with limited bandwidth.

I don't see how they are being a jerk for telling the truth.

Hit up a LAN arena/your work /college campus/ with your laptop, download the things, return home, install the things.
If you don't have a laptop, then download to another/friend's computer and transfer the things via USB.
If you don't have a USB, you can get a 16gb one very very inexpensively.
If you don't have a friend IRL, you probably shouldn't play an MMO until you resolve that.
If you don't have any other options, you can always download each patch file individually over the course of several weeks.

Problem with FFXIV is how much data it flat out replaces per update being applied (hence 10gb of update, but game folder is still 11gb). There's likely a lot of redundancy doing all the updates from a fresh install when it could have just fed you the up-to-date files in the first place.

my opinion that would help people lots and I think SE should do is make the patches in installable packs for each patch so we can save them to install later. that way we don't have to redownload the whole darn thing upon a fresh install. c'mon SE it only makes sense for the PC version and it would free up your bandwidth for PS3 and PS4 versions(unless sony wants to make some viable way to do this on those systems too I can't see it happening)

Well I might be overreacting because i don't particularly like Samson but keep in mind the reality of the situation is that unmetered internet doesn't really exist anymore save for a few parts of Europe.

Data caps that small are usually exclusive to the united states, australia and a long list of third world countries with almost no internet infrastructure. Well, the OP never asked for you to defend them (as if there was something the OP had to be defended from). So who is the one being douchey here?

And to answer the OP: Yes, it's worth it. I'd imagine the penalty for being over bandwidth for one month won't be all that harsh. And you can always complain about it. Nine times out of ten they'll refund it if you raise a big enough stink.

ISP with a 10g limit? Where in gods name do you live? That's absurdly low unless you're on something silly like a 3 or 4g network. Cable modems generally provide way more.

Either way the game isn't going to limit itself based on a 10g limitation. Most internet providers don't have a cap that low, and there is no good reason to expect SE to cater to the lowest possible common denominator when most people have caps far above that one. Find a way to use an internet cafe, get a file copy from a friend, or look for more novel solutions.

Honestly did you expect to post about this here and square would suddenly make you a custom installer or something? In the short term your only option is to go elsewhere for your download.

Worth it? More like completely mandatory.

BTW, if there's someone else in your area that also plays XIV, you can ask help from them to copy their installed client directly. XIV client are fortunately can be copy-paste directly between PCs and will run without further patching. This were carried since 1.0 days. :)

Is it worth spending your monthly limit? no.

If anything, just wait until the end of month to blow 10gb if you really wanted to play, the game has changed since than but it all boils down to the kind of player you are, you might get overwhelmed playing catch up or enjoy it, I can say this though, if you quit at start and coming back, unless you have a group of friends wating, you're not going to have a good time in Dungeons.

Our Community is trash.
