Is there a setting to turn off Auto Attack?
I know you can avoid it if you don't select a target or you go into passive mode, but I'm hoping there's a way to just completely turn it off.

Play archer?
Archer is most fun class now.
Thanks for the suggestion.
But is there a way to turn off Auto Attack regardless of what class we play?
By the way, I was playing Archer.
Waiting for the Multishot timer to wind down so I could nock another arrow, then the target started walking in my direction, got a bit too close, and my character had this uncontrollable urge to punch it ...
It was kind of funny, but it resulted in initiating combat before other people were ready. :p
No there isnt.. and too be honest i love the AA!
When i play archer while waiting to multishot ill go up and punch the mob a few times for TP lol
This sort of thing is systematically impossible to implement.
Turn off your attack lmao?
It's great that so many people are happy with Auto Attack.
I'm not complaining about it or anything.
I just think it would be nice to have the option to turn it on or off at the player's discretion.
If it's technically possible, I'll just keep my fingers crossed for this in a future update.
well you can do a couple things, untarget or put away your weapon. for multi shot just target yourself if the mob is near by.
Or turn your back to the enemy...
How exactly did you end up that close to the enemy if you were in a group and they weren't ready? That's my question.... you're an Archer, not a gladiator or lancer, there's no reason for you to have been so close that AA had any effect -- especially in a group.
ummmm that would give you an unfair advantage above other people lol.
How? The fact that when he doesn't want to hit the mob he doesn't?
Totally unfair yes.. err... Ok, no I need that one explaining. :p
AA is all well and good for those who fight on top of the mob and want to just keep hitting it as much as possible.
For the classes that use CC and Range it means that they wont accidentally break any CC by having a involuntary muscle spasm and punching the mob.
Even for those who are up close, they probably have CC ability's set and sometimes need to get away from the mob for a moment.
Having AA break that is just annoying.
Not likely to happen, most games have auto attack. Besides they took out the basic attacks... they're auto now.
This option isn't needed. If they improve the UI I doubt many will have issues.
I'm pretty sure I was facing to the side, not facing the enemy directly.
We were in the Black Shroud fighting in one of the narrow twisty curvy areas, not a wide open area like Thanalan or La Noscea. The environment put us into closer quarters during these battles.
It's very annoying as a mage
very useless to auto-attack
and when I try to Sleep the mob then my rod hit the mob and wake him up
Press F.
and your done.
Otherwise if you are referring to permanently turning it off, no. Don't be silly, they just spent 12 months implementing it, and making a cinematic masterpiece of a trailer to showcase this groundbreaking new feature, never before seen! The 3 people that worked on this multi-billion dollar idea would not have wanted you to circumvent this world changing thing.
I'm not asking to get rid of it.
I respect that many people are happy with Auto Attack.
I just prefer to have 100% control over my actions during battle, so I'd like the ability to turn it off for myself.
AA is far superior to having to spam the attack button, IMO. I would understand not wanting it if there was no wait time between attacks, as it would feel more like an action game, but with the wait it just seemed ridiculous.
To each their own...
Exactly.
As for the whole "they spent time implementing it" thing, I don't give a shit - I didn't want auto-attack then, and I don't want it even more now. So they should bother at least granting us the same respect they gave to everyone whining about not having an AA option and give us a non-AA option.
Could you please explain how no using Auto Attack would give someone an advantage?
(This is an honest question, by the way. I don't understand why it would be an advantage)
I don't expect them to get rid of the cool down timers or anything like that.
I just don't want to punch or whack the monster with my staff unless I choose to do so.
I'd like an Auto Attack toggle button.
Personally, I'd be fine with putting it in the configuration menu because I would just turn it off and leave it off.
But perhaps other people would want an easier way to toggle it on and off without going through the menus?
Okay. Just wanted to get clarification. A good portion of people would just like an auto-attack toggle mapped to a key, but for ease of engaging an enemy. Either way, it seems like a reasonable request. I think a lot of people posting here had different ideas of what you were looking for.
People keep saying CC CC and umm CC... but well it never has come up with an issue. You don't attack uless you target lock, and you might as well be smacking it if you are targeting locked. Locking and unlocking is like instaneous in FF14.
So people so far are just complaining to...complain.
When CC finally becomes an issue, we can expand on it, but for now, it's not, you might as well be hitting it because Tp isn't wasted unlike FF11.
CC - Crowd control
And the issue with Auto attack is for me.
I root a mob.. my character turns around to hit the mob as i run off ...
It's main use in game seems to be to un root mobs for me, an to occasionally in a really confined space do a tiny bit more damage to a mob..
So if people want to argue Advantage over Disadvantage:
I'm choosing to lower my dps/tp generation to gain a tiny bit more Control over my toon and my CC options. But if we all have a toggle we can all do that if we want.
Everyone is happy? As everyone can play the way they want..
So why would it be a bad idea?
You won't run very far if you're in active stance either, and considering it's more a lag problem then AA problem, since AA animation is superseded by any movement, even moving.
And you won't attack the enemy anyway unless you're locked...which you can unlock. Simply cancel your target or even just unlock auto attack lock will make sure of it.
And the option to turn off/on is a major developer problem, because it can't keep track of timing and proc rate. It has been abused timelessly, including FF11, in which the "delay zero glitch" by faking AA stances using high delay weapons.
The functions are build in for you to not attack, perhaps a little too extensive, the fact you choose not to use it and want a toggle is...rather odd.
Playing how you want to play usually means ruining it for everyone else. Thus M-M-ORPG. Not SP you paid $60 RPG.
The FFXI Glitch/issues I cant comment on so I wont.
The Fix's or options to avoid breaking CC only 1/2 work, the de target mob is an ass, as I have hit the mob doing that, and turning you back just the same..
The other option is to look at how CC is broken, but that's not easy to balance in its self.
Say the roots cant be broken for 3 seconds? But then you need to look at immunity timers of say 3 seconds after that to stop it being abused.)
But the point from my perspective is simply a ranged class should not have to leave the battle system (drop target) just to be sure and even then not 100% sure, that an automated action wont break the CC, it should work with in the system.
best thing!
