Is ninja confirmed the only new job?

I'm really hoping for a two hand sword wielding class, like a dark knight or samurai. Either would be cool, I just really like two handed swords :P

At E3 or something, they confirmed the ninja job, right? I Haven't heard ANY news about any new classes, will Ninja/Rogue be the only new additions?

For 2.4, yes. October fest might reveal what we get in 3.0.

Rogue is a new class with Ninja as a new job for it. That's gonna be it for patch 2.4 and likely until we get to the expansion. I don't think it's been confirmed, but I think we can expect 2 or so new classes for the expansion and at least another 2 jobs, possibly more though I suppose.

So unfortunate. I don't have any interest in playing a ninja, and even if I did the leveling process for DPS classes is so ridiculously broken that I'd rather kill myself then do it again.

Level 50 Ninja in 1 Week easy mode. Just gotta know what you're doing.

Ninja has not been confirmed to be the only new job.

However, it is the only new job that has been confirmed.

The only problem with a slashing DPS is the train of WAR TANK OR GTFO certain things will develop. Will be interesting to see how they handle that.

I act like there's a fair amount of 8-man stuff that gets solo tanked, and then there's 4-man content.

1a) Unless you're farming (see T5), there's no reason for DPS racing..unless you need that 5th DPS to clear.
2) DF doesn't allow you to choose what tank you play with

Never mentioned DF, and what in the world are you getting at with "run with better people" when I say things are solo-tanked?

The irrefutable point here is that making some DPS slashing gives WAR an edge it doesn't have right now; this will change the current balance and I'm just interested to see how it's handled.

And farming anything is worthy of a DPS race if you're trying to get as many kills in in x amount of time. (or hell, just to minimize the time people have to screw up)

So basically you're spouting things that are either irrelevant or just completely out in left field. I should suck less by using more tanks? OK.

I'm saying, two tanks is perfectly fine if you're not racing against a clock (DPS insufficient, farming runs). DF is mentioned because "War tank or gtfo" implies in every situation. Most of the time, DF is used (for 4 mans). So it's easy to state that you can't choose what type of tank you get.

As for handling slashing debuff with a slashing DPS...make content like Savage Second Coil where two tanks are required. Done.

A few things will determine if War + Ninja will be a must have.

1. % of Ninja endgame DpS that is slashing damage - The Rogue/Ninja has been implied to do damage through a combination of Slashing attacks, Poisons and Elemental mudra. Depending of the composition of the rotation Storm's Eye could be anywhere between a 9% (90% slashing) damage buff and a 2.5% (25% slashing) damage buff.

2. If Ninja has an inherent Slashing Resistance debuff and if that debuff stacks with Storm's Eye

3. Dps in comparison to other Dps Jobs

I wonder, if SE is keen on making adds/things in fights immune to poisons (check: Ifrit's nail phases) how much % DPS they're willing to put into a NIN's poisons, or if they'll have a DPS function at all, or if they'll be just for utility purposes.

WAR is already preferred for most stuff that is single tanked. Especially if the group wants to maximize its dps.

Edit: And we don't even know what damage type Ninja will do. My guess is that a good chunk of it will be elemental damage and maybe even some piercing.

Well i dont see bards getting mad if there isnt a DRG for the piercing debuff so i guess it wont be too much of an issue.

Also from the sounds of it, ninja might be somewhat lower on the dps pole to begin with, having less positional requierements and such.

Yeah, I'm going to assume it'll be below DRG and MNK for melee dps, but on par with or slightly above BRD.
And if their elemental ninjutsu damage is boosted by BRD's Foe Requiem, that could be very interesting indeed...

Not unless they decide it's actually magic damage. Are people forgetting that none of the DoW classes have any sort of magical damage component? They can't even cross-class any DoM attacks. The only reason DoM classes can cross-class Mercy Stroke, I think, is because DoM still have melee attacks. And there's approximately zero chance they'll mix piercing and slashing in the same class, much less something like slashing and magic. . .

SMN already has Blunt, Slashing and Magic damage mixed in one job. There is no reason for them not doing it for other new classes.

Except that two of those damage sources barely get used in normal content. The vast majority of the time, SMN should be using Garuda. So unless you're talking about auto-attack damage, I don't see much reason to count the other two.

Just checked you out - you only have one Job to 50.

I don't know if you did all the side quests, and watched all the CS.. but now for your next classes/job (which I saw you are about 38 on one) it should be definitely faster.

Fates, Leves, Dungeons, XP boost from food and FC Actions..

But yeah, I can related to be bored to play another melee DPS is that was your main so far and want a change. In that case: you still have BRD, WHM, BLM, SCH, SMN, PLD, WAR to try out and see if that suits you.

Not too bad imho.

I would love Samurai as a new job since that was my favorite DD in FFXI. I am very hopeful that it gets announced before I get tired of the game. They have MNK, they are getting NIN so Samurai shouldn't be too far behind. Well I hope not anyway.

My money is on them totally messing up Samurai and making it the new Tank.

I still think they could successfully make Samurai a tank, even though I'd rather have it as a DPS. My money is also though on them screwing it up somehow but I'd gladly like to be proven wrong on that though.

I expect it to be a tank. And I really hope it is one. We are drowning in DPS and sorely need new tanks. It was intended to be a tank even in XI, but in the same fashion as war, it was designed for that role poorly, and became a DPS instead. And besides, even if it is a DD, it'll be VASTLY different from what it was in XI, as is the case with almost every other job in the game. They aren't basing the jobs for this game off of the jobs in XI. Aside from a few moves sharing names, they're basically starting from scratch and building new jobs that are based off classic jobs from the series in general.

It does not matter that Ifrift is not used in most of the content. The point is, that Square already decided to mix multiple damage types in one class and that there is no reason why they wouldn't do it with other classes.

New tank class to be released, in my opinion, will be Samurai. In a toss up between making Dark Knight or Samurai a DPS, Dark Knights have historically followed the "Inflict self-damage for more damage output." with the exception of FF11's DK. (Correct me if I'm wrong?)

So, my prediction for Samurai being the new Tank seems a little more likely... but that's only in comparison to Dark Knights.

It makes a lot of sense really. I mean, if you look at the Samurai fighting style, it is at it's very essence incredibly defensive. It's primarily about warding off the opponent's attacks while waiting for that perfect opening, rather than aggressively going for the kill.

If the new race released is a Bangaa (which is my guess after looking at that tail on Yugiri), then Tank = Defender and new Healer = Bishop

Mind you, Bangaa are also known to be Cannoneers (Devs mentioned "gun class but not what we think").

However, since we're going to have a new starter class as the Rogue.....with time to level it before the expansion......the new tank may be a Soldier; which has relied upon the thief subjob in past FF games.

Have they even confirmed that they are adding a new race? All I've heard so far is secondhand rumor and speculation. In any case, I really have doubts that if there is a new race, it's going to be bangaa. A new reptilian race, sure, but not bangaa. I mean, if you look at her body structure, the only physical trait she shares with said race is she has a scaly tail. But based on the Domans studying the eastern arts, and a few other clues, I'd say they are going to stick with the theme. Sam for tank, and something like Priest for the healer. Sam I'm almost sure of due to them actually going through the trouble of naming the city Doma and even basing it's back story in the game after it's namesake in FFVI. And as we know, Bushido was the fighting art of Doma in that game.
