What's stupid isn't the drop rate.
What's stupid is that people can sell it once it does drop.
Minions should be untradable so that if you see someone with a rare minion, you know that person worked hard for it or got incredibly lucky, and not "heh, he probably bought it..."
I agree the drop rate on this is ridiculous, i'm well over 300+ full runs and only seen 2.yeah because I don't deserve a minion to sale for finishing my 350'th+ full run of brayflox... If it wasn't sale able what happens when all 4 people have it? oh dang an item with a 2% drop rate hits the floor, yeah real smart. How about FC's that have FC events and give out minions as prizes? according to you, screw helping out or being nice to fc mates. You all put in the work you all get the reward simple as that. some people won't ever use the minion and will just sale it because minion's don't matter 2 cents to them, however gil does matter to them.
Got 2 already, sold my first one for 700k.
You would hate my bf then he got the drop on his 1st run and it was day 1 of the update but he gave it to me because he's awesome.
Yeah, the drop rate on minions/mounts that come from coffers in just retarded, honestly. Of the many, many primal parties I've been to I've never seen any Garuda, Titan or Ifrit mount, ever, and only 1 Leviathan mount. I've never seen seen an Opo-opo despite at least running it once each day for roulette since it came out and I've seen the minion from Hullbreaker only once as well. It's fine to have a low drop rate so that you just don't do your roulette and have a minion by the end of your second week into the patch, but the probably single digit percentage assigned to these things is just ridiculous.
The only reason anyone gives a s&$# about it is because it is so rare. Please keep some things very rare.

Good luck. :(
Don't you have to kill the opo opo in the dungeon in order for it to drop? If that's true of course it will be rare since everyone locks that mob out
I know how to make the drop rate 100%. Buy it.
While they're at it, maybe they could make Atma drop at the end of each boss in the Expert Roullette.
God knows how many maps = no Bluebird
God knows how many Bray runs = 1 Oppo and someone else got it... and this is BEFORE they made it a drop you can roll on.
Nothing to do but keep trying. Drop rate sucks, but at least when I get it I'll feel like I put in good work for it. This is just another time sink that SE has put into the game, but asdfghjkl they are so cute... >.<
Nutkin....;_;
The opo opo is over 1 million gil on my server now XD I've done countless runs and have never seen it drop
it's 700k in tonberry
seems like nutkin is the most expensive minion though, browsed market board earlier and they were sold for 2 million+
The only reason why I think it should be raised is due to the lack of people doing BL HM, people no longer spam that for soldiery, it went from 700k to 2m in my server after 2.3 came out.
True, but I think it's the fact that YOU got lucky enough to find it; YOU got lucky enough to roll high on it; and YOU potentially put in the hours it took to get the little bugger. In my eyes, that would be what makes it special, and the feeling of "hard work". Just my opinion though.
Not sure why people get so worked up over something not game changing or breaking I guess, just personally doesn't make much sense to me if they kept the drop rate the same or upped it. Like if they added SCOB stuff to BCOB then I'd be upset, but a minion? Again that's my opinion and since it's not even in things like SCOB I really don't see why anyone would get upset if the drop rate is upped.
It's a fabricated sense of superiority. I got the same kind of responses when I asked for the Bluebird rate to be raised back in December. People seem to think that something needing to be done hundreds of times makes it "hard" and that it being "hard" makes it worth getting. By thinking something should be "hard", it makes them better than other people who, in their own words, want "hand outs". It's the generic response you can expect to anything like this on these forums.
I have a Bluebird now. Would I be upset if they raised the drop rate? No. I wouldn't care in the slightest. Why? Because somebody else having a minion doesn't change my life in the slightest. But like I said, people take any little opportunity to be perceived as better than their peers they can get.
"You should work for your minions!" is just another way of saying "You want everything for nothing", a flawed argument in the first place but completely irrelevant for something like this.
There's a minion in Brayflox? I've done hundreds of runs and this is news to me
This was only a rumor that was proven false by people who locked the Opo opo out and still got the drop. It's just a rare minion
To be fair the Nutkin is probably rarer then the Bluebird. You have to get the unhidden map to drop AND it's a rare drop from the unhidden map. (I wish my RNG in this game was as good as it was in WoW. 2 rare (sub 3% drop rate) mounts in a week makes me smile)
bumping this for no apparent reason other than boredom
As much as I wanted a baby Opo-opo, but please do understand this. For every 1 baby Opo-opo, the RNG gods need to take one off the hands of a dead mummy Opo-opo.
So pls spare a thought for the babies. Imagine 1 moment you are in your mummy's arms, the next you got taken away and place in a chest. The next thing you know some random strange took you out of the chest and place you upfor sale. Only to be sold to another stranger, whom will care for you for a while before forgetting about you. Or worse, you and another forgotten baby are made into a pair ofslippers for a lalafell.
I'd more imagine it that the baby Opo opo saw it's mother getting killed somewhere and wandered around eventually finding you after you finished Brayflox where you picked it up and it let you be it's mother..... Or somebody else depending on if it was sold or not. In the end doesn't it get a nice loving owner anyways? (I'm always using my Baby Opo-opo. It's so far my favorite minion)
Actually, I disagree on this one. I'd like the minion myself but it's not important in any way to have, which makes it perfect as a super rare item. Having items that are super rare makes them all the more exciting to see, and if you're doing repeat dungeons it's good to have that little feeling of "just maybe".
Having the item tradable is also good, because it allows people who are desperate to just obtain it through gil if they want (also some people don't enjoy dungeons much but may like to craft and make a lot of gil). If you already have the oppo, you would not be saying I wish it wasn't tradable when a second drops ;P There's no harm in this in my view. I'm always short on gil and I like that there's a chance I'll possibly grab a super expensive item sometime and make a fortune on the market. More rare minions please.
I'd agree, but let me share my experience with the Bluebird.
Let's skip over the part where you feel angry at SE for adding such a rare vanity item and spend a lot of your time trying to get it. When it drops, first you think "Wow! Yes!". Then you get an adrenaline rush of whether you're going to win it or not. If you don't win it, you feel empty and gutted. If you do win, excited! That feeling lasts for about ten minutes. Then, as time goes by, you begin to wonder why you ever gave a damn about it in the first place.
Then you look back and realise that it's so dumb for a vanity item to have such an appalling drop rate and that the thrill of acquisition doesn't make up for it in the slightest. Sure, you have your minion but it's not like you get giddy with excitement every time you summon him...
Bottom line? Save rare drop rates for end game gear please. We have RNG screwing us over enough in this game.
TIL anything can be used to measure your e-peen.
No way. 1% drop rates ARE THE FUTURE. Didn't you know? This is Pachinko Fantasy XIV, the best in RNG action. Much better than playing slots. SE has learned that challenging content is not fun. What's fun is RANDOM CHANCE. Just keep grinding easy content until you get your drop. Ladies and gentlemen, ARE YOU READY TO GAMBLE!?
But by having a minion as a super rare drop, players have the choice to opt out. After your own experience you might next time choose not to worry about another rare minion drop, but for some (like collectors / completionists) it's still worthwhile.
For end game items I think rare drops can be ok as long as there are alternatives. Let's look at the Atma weapon for example. This can take a long grind to obtain all 12 Atma, but it's entirely optional. There are alternative weapons like the Weathered Yagrush and then Yagrush - these normally require less grinding, but you'll need to participate in more difficult end game content to obtain them (firstly Syrcus tower, then Second Coil of Bahamut). The relic weapon upgrades (Atma, Animus, Novus) are very grindy to obtain, but involve much less challenging content (or at least less group dependent). I think this actually works quite well, giving different options for different players, based on their available play time, whether they are solo / group, and whether they prefer long but easy grinds, or difficult gameplay.
the baby opo-opo crawls onto your shoulder when beckoned, sits there while I fish/craft, hes by far the most alive/interactive and best minion in the entire game right now. it's way worth the rarity.
I must admit, my whole argument about it being a waste of time falls to pieces when he does this:
