Ninja seem to be a debuff DPS ?

From the look, Ninja will require physical stat such as STR, and then it will probably use INT for Ninjutsu. Usually, in any MMO, where you require to have more than one primary status, that class will have a huge disadvantage, so imo, it will not gonna be a pure dps type such as MNK, but gonna be a semi-support DPS similar to bard.

The main damage probably come from STR and their physical melee attack, whereas the spell gonna be debuff to the enemy, which make you not need to gain high INT to make them useful.

Either that or they gonna be a jack-of-all-trade physical/spell class that doesn't actually good at anything except look cool. (hope not)

its more likely that the skills will still do physical damage, just like how wind bite from bards is physical despite clearly being wind.

That one's still up in the air. The datamined traits imply Dexterity, though those are pretty old and Yoshida said they've been making a lot of changes. Dexterity would also make sense gear-wise, since there's 2 tanks (vit), 2 healers (mnd), 2 strength DPS, 2 casters (int), but only one dex DPS. Going 3 strength and 1 dex is a little weird. Yoshida also hinted a while ago that if you want to start getting gear for Ninja, you should start getting melee gear (though I think he actually said DoW, which could mean Bard gear.) When you look at sets like the Fuma set (traditionally a Ninja set), it's strength-based and definitely fits the Ninja aesthetic, while the Bard sets would look ridiculous on a Ninja.

So yeah, right now, none of us know what the hell's going on. Really it doesn't matter. If you wanna start accumulating gear for Ninja, start getting both strength and dexterity stuff. And either way it'll be strength OR dex, not some weird dex/int or str/int hybrid thing.

I most likely belive is STR since the description for str is increase melee damage while the description for dex is increase range damage.

Dex was merged with Agi at the v1

Thief will probably be a Dex based class, where Nin would have been more of an AGI based job.

There's already 2 jobs for each stats like it was said but not for the Dex.

I did think of the white mage, with the skill that switch MND to INT, maybe Ninja will get a (or more, like fist of *element" like) stance for this and switch his Dex for Int.

I'm still curious tho, Dex gives also more parrying skills (remember FFXI and ninja with his high parrying skill), where STR gives more reduction damage from parrying, ninja is not a tank so.

Str also boost attack... where Dex boost Ranged attack.

Maybe he is gonna use a combo of both with some news sets. Let's see how it goes.

Yoshi has stated that Ninja will in fact have Ninjutsu spells which deal damage as well as offer support. However, I'm fairly certain that they will either be on DEX or STR gear exclusively and not have INT factor in at all. They're not really casting spells so to speak but generating the aether around them with their Mudra into their Ninjutsu. Monk does this similarly with their Fist stances and INT doesn't effect them (Using English translations). Bard songs don't use any other stat as another example.

It seems as though the core of their damage will be the Rogue's DoTs. It takes between 1-3 seconds to get off a Ninjutsu (depending on which one) so focusing on DoTs (which Rogue is already said to specialize in Poisons) would guarantee it doesn't suffer much of a DPS loss during their mudras.

As for what gear sets it will be on (such as CT/ST gear), a friend and I were talking and we think the potential for it getting its own gear sets is quite high and otherwise it will be on the generic DoW gear.

Also as for the whole STR for melee damage and DEX for ranged damage: That's not the case. DEX just boosts the Attack Power for Bows and STR just boosts the Attack Power for every other weapon (staves, rods and books included) at a 1:1 ratio. When you look at LNC/MRD/GLA skills that are ranged attacks (not melee attacks) such as Tomahawk STR still boosts their damage. An ARC equipping a GLA weaponskill will still need DEX for that skill and a GLA equipping an ARC weaponskill will still need STR for that skill.

Yoshi said that Rogue/Ninja's ranged attacks will only be through skills (like Tomahawk). All physical damaging skills use Attack Power in their calculation. Since the conversion of STR/DEX to AP is strictly based on the weapon type it's very easy to just flip the switch on any given weapon type. That's the joy of using Attack Power in weaponskill calculations instead of STR/DEX. What it boils down to is how they want NINs secondary stat layout to look like if they just add it to an existing gear set. MNK's focuses on skill speed and BRD's on accuracy/crit rate.

If it's made like the other game its DEX based, remember Ninjutsu was never INT based it was ACCU based so you needed tons of DEX. Remember they could spam but miss every time with no DEX.

yeah ninja will be a melee dot class, like smn is a mage dot class.

There is no confirmation on SE's part. There was datamined traits for what we assumed as Rogue's for DEX but there was an interview where they aren't sure which stat to make it. They will let us know in due time.

At E3, Yoshi recommended holding onto your melee DPS gear for rogue/ninja release. That strongly implies str.

That's why I said implies. :p But it really seems highly unlikely they'll make it dex, since they have it pretty clearly set up so that dex is ranged specific. But we'll see.

I'm hoping it's STR, been stockpiling STR accessories and Monk gear, in case they allow Ninja to use up to i110 Monk gear.

Another dex-based class would, right now, make a lot of sense. There's 2 str DPS, 2 int DPS, 2 mnd healers, 2 vit tanks, and 1 dex DPS. Another dex DPS would even out the gear a bit.

Some people think it fits more thematically, and it does (seeing a ninja clobbering something with a ton of strength isn't what most people think of when they think of a ninja fighting.) The thing is, they can make the armor say Strength and still show the Ninja animations be graceful, speedy and precise to fit that assumed aesthetic.

I imagine it'll be Strength, since the decisions for a lot of things in this game are meant to cater to newer players and switching up a single melee class to have their damage scale with dexterity instead of strength could be confusing for some people.

The next dex class will probably be musketeer.

I don't really mind, they can work with either STR or DEX, but what I want to focus is about the part whether it seem to be a debuff + DPS or just a pure DPS.

In any MMO, you can only become the best at one thing. Any hybrid class will never become the top of line DPS. So if Ninja can deal both spell damage and physical damage, then he is going to be bad at both. If he focus on just one type of damage, then he may get chance to be the top. And in this sense, I think that if it is confirm that Ninjutsu will debuff enemy, then I can totally see that it will be the class opposite to bard with debuff instead of buff. Overall dps will be weaker than pure DPS class such as Monk for sure.

Even in the original video (however not 100% sure it's related but seems to be so) that when casting mudras the ninja then used an ice spell. For all we know they could have like 2 debuffs a self buff and several spells as mudras but we don't know how many they have but it was even said. That some combinations of mudras will have a negative effect not every combo does something. Also wanted to say if he does do spells it will scale off his main stat not some hybrid style, the game has shown us that with long range attacks on melee classes.
