Even with 2mil relatively easy to obtain, that really sucks Op, you have my sympathy. Hope that doesn't happen to me when I start buying/melding that materia specifically.
Its a luck thing, i didnt fail any of my 3's or 4's
Try 1.0 penta melding and then we'll talk.
This is what you get from a SE MMO. They seem to feel it is fun and engaging to have the burden of success or failure ride on dice rather than skill or effort. Though considering the effort based challenges in this game equate to ridiculous grinds, the melding system might be the less painful alternative. =(
That really sucks, I guess I have yet another reason not to participate in this "content".
the first 4 of each grade are 100% chances, its not as bad as it might seem
With Determination only the first two are 100%, then it starts dropping from there, from (I think) 92%, 88%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and finally 50%. I might be wrong on some of those, but it does get rather expensive near the end if you're really unlucky as the OP was.
I feel for you OP, but remember that there's always someone who's done worse. I don't think Yoshi-P's even working on his Sphere Scroll yet, at any rate.
I got to 60% on Det IVs and broke 9. After I finished crying... I sucked it up and got it done. But man... 9.... /wrist
Hang in there, you'll get it done.
The feel of early era free to play mmos now available to you for 2 million gil.
I told myself I wasn't going to be buying any IVs to use on my scroll. I had two Savage Might IVs on hand and used them and just called it at that.
Now I'm even more likely to take it easy with my animus books and especially the Novus part of the chain.
Risk of using tier ivs in the first place.
High risk, low reward. Using IV is for min-maxers that think the 10 extra points makes a difference.
And this be yet another reason why i am just getting soldiery weapon for blm.
Slightly "less Powerful" but far less hassle
Very sorry to hear about this op
I can feel your Frustration, I'm reaching close enough to for Novus and Im not even excited and looking forward to it.
I am doing Novus scroll for DRG and so far have melded just 1 grade IV determination that I had in my inventory. Now working on Liberator (UAT dropped in first week at Syrcus, just had to brag about it) that I will use while doing one of 2:
1) wait till my retainer bring back grade IV det or I get lucky at spiritbonding
or
2) add to my scroll Det, Crit, Acc using grade IV materia only at 100% chance
So far I have spent maybe 50k on my Novus scroll to get low materia I had no patience to farm but don't plan to buy any grade IV
While it certainly sucks, that's the risk you take and is not related to materia tier. Adding Determination III to my scroll I thought I had plenty for the last two infusions (had 10), I ended up having to buy to finish up.
Meanwhile some rich dude(tte) somewhere infused to max without a single failure along the road.
Only around 20 or so spell speed left until I have Thyrus Novus in my paws!
People are unreal. Always laugh my way to the bank selling the worthless stuff to people who really honestly think that those 5 or 10 points in an offstat is gonna somehow improve their loldeepz. So funny.
1.0 was a time where even double melds were harsh. You had to use the flunky crafting UI to make a very expensive weapon (some pieces NEEDED to be HQ which was a pain from the get go) then you needed very expensive materia to double meld. First was always 100% but then the second meld dropped to 30% success, which may as well have been 10% success. If you failed, you lose ALL materia AND the weapon you spent so much crafting.
At least on Ragnarok at the time, base weapons were 10 mil, materia was maybe 5m each. This system, even Novus, is so much more tame then it once was. This is not even mentioning FFXI
this is why i'm skipping the tier IV's and just putting some into a 3rd stat instead. those 11 points aren't going to make or break me.
Am I the only one making money while making Novus? I spiritbond a few sets of HQ spinel jewelry and always get at least one tier IV and just sell off what I don't need for scroll and I've made close to 2 mil. And when attaching materia to the scroll the first few are all 100% for each new tier.
So I guess now the DoW folks know how much it sucks to meld for crafting and gathering. ; ;
I agree that the % chance of success is really bad... both for overmelding and for getting tier IV materia in the first place. :/ Yes, 1.0's method sucked more, but what we have now sucks too. :(
That exact same thing happened to me, on the exact same type of materia. I thought I had it bad, but you got it worse, Materia were half the price on my server so i only blew one mil.
That sucks man. I got lucky and only broke 1 Savage Aim IV and 1 Savage Might IV on my 44/31 bow.
I didn't fail any of my Tier IV materias for my Novus.
Thank you Square, Blizzard, Jagex, and Obama. ;)
I played lots of FTP MMOs. You know how the upgrading works there? You get upgrade items with real money. The higher the upgrade level, the lower the chances of success. The last upgrade level on one game had a success rate of 0.01%. You could have spent thousands of dollars and still not get your upgrade.
Just suck it up, OP. This game is extremely generous with success rates and I really don't see how anyone could blame SE on this one. Good luck next time.
it really ruins your day doesn't it?
Yours were worse than mine

That's why I ditched adding (and risking) expensive +2 Tier IV Det and went for +2 Tier 1 Acc instead.

But they took 1.0's crafting and made it VERY good in 2.0, the best in game crafting system I've ever seen (well, the process, i dunno about the stuff you craft though). With materia, they just took a system that was bad and made it less bad. It's not *good* by any stretch of the imagination. The non-interactive RNG fail chance on Novus is pretty lackluster too.
Well, sort of. The lowest % fail chance on any novus step is 50%. Overmelding starts at 45% (only if you're melding a Tier 1 materia in the first overmeld slot) and goes downhill from there (down to 6%? in the 4th slot for Tier IV). While I like the customization options available to melded gear, the process of spirit bonding and overmelding are both pretty craptacular when compared to the innovative crafting system.
For summoner, going Tier III on both CRT and DET while adding ACC instead while switching one piece of gear for an Evenstar piece is a difference of about 0,013% DPS less but gives you some security on the next tier of content depending on its ACC requirement. I like though that you're judging people's Novus based on ignorance, keep at it champ!
Is there any other alternative for Materia IV?
prices are impossible.....
So you really believe +11 crit +8 det is going to make a noticeable difference in DPS? it's the difference of about 2-3 DPS. Yeah. Really going to make a huge difference lol.
Just because I was smart enough to realise 2-3 DPS does not justify the cost when I can pump out over 400 DPS with the Novus I have, no need to get abusive.
