From what i have noticed, attaining the stat caps for the 3 star crafting items, and the gathering caps for the 2 star gathering items, is extreme. to reach these caps, you would have to triple or quad meld each piece of gear, which im already wearing all HQ. A few of my crafting classes (GSM and CUL) i have almost maximum decked out and they dont hit anywhere near the required caps without food, and i find that ridiculous. It cost me over 1 mil for each class just to even get *close* to the caps. I feel like the gear in itself is under par and requires far too much melding and gil to be able to reach the cap. It's unrealistic and makes me want to give up.

Nitpicking, but if your gear is max melded and you can't hit minimums, your melds weren't very good.
If you have i70 tool, i70 head, and all other pieces have stats capped, you only need 1 Control materia on your offhand to hit 3* minimums.
Most pieces except Body and Offhand don't even require T4 materia, and T3 + T2 is very easy and not very time-consuming to get via spiritbinding. -

Fine the way it is, as crafting and gathering are extremely easy to level and just buy the level 50 gear from marketboard.
Don't need everyone and their mom to be able to do the most difficult craft/gather. The people that are willing to spend the money/time should be the one that have access. -

I tend to agree with OP. I tried consolidating my crafting gear to a single shared patrician set to save money. Rather than having job specific sets for all my crafting classes. I'm fully melded and barely meet the requirements to 2 star anything. Master is obviously out of the question. Sure, that's what I get for skimping I suppose but still.

You can get away with mostly patricians. Get the new headpiece that you can use on all DoH classes (no melding required), then get DoH specific main hand/offhand/chest pieces. If you max meld all of your other pieces , then you'll be able to reach the minimum reqs for the 3* stuff without *too* much overmelding on the class specific chest/offhand pieces.Quote:

05-28-2014, 07:50 AMSongiYou can do 3 stars with Patricians but it means having to go balls out with max crafsmanship or control melds in offhand. You also are unable to eat the same crafting food as the players in class specific gear. You may need Popoto Soup or Pan Fried Mahi-Mahi with free company buffs. I did this for a while since I didn't feel the need to blow money on melds again for the AF sets.Quote:

Not happening, that's just climbing a mountain only to get pushed off the top.

It's part of the nature of the genre to be like this. Crafting and Gathering have no real gates to them. I'm not capped (though I am near it) and have every crafting/gathering job leveled. Fishing is the only one I haven't melded, but I don't really care to (yet). Materia prices are pretty damn outrageous right now, admittedly, but that's economy. RMT sort of control the materia prices, but not in a way that isn't easy to change. We DO have the option to spiritbind gear for materia, it's what I do in remelding stuff.
Crafting and gathering materia do not have dud outcomes like combat class ones do. They will ALWAYS be materia related to the crafting or gathering gear, except the Aetheryte Ring because of the Spiritbind+ stat. You gotta spend money to make money. That saying holds true in games, as it does IRL. And just like IRL, the money won't just come to you when you're done melding... you still have to put in effort to getting it.
As for the inability to reach cap stats, I don't see a problem with that. You can reach 2/3 necessary caps through melds with crafting for a reliable HQ result chance on 3 star equips. Essentially, this is Craftsmanship and Control. CP is the only one that you'd not be able to cap, but food can easily cover you. For 3 star synths, you're generally not going to be mass producing those things, given the cost and (often) low supply of mats, so using a cheap food item for it isn't a very big deal (again, spending money to make money). With gathering, you can achieve 2-star gathering attempts easily... you don't even have to pentameld, and you can rely on mostly tier1-2 materia. And you don't really need to worry much about GP (a minimum of 550 if you want a good yield). Gathering melds are far from the same as Crafting ones. Again, food can cover any shortcomings for gathering (which really isn't an issue unless you just don't want to meld much).
The only frustration is the outcome from overmelds and current pricing of materia. However, pricing is something that fluctuates and you can avoid that by spiritbinding yourself. Overmeld success percentages are just ridiculous. I can determine (with reasonable accuracy) when I'll fail to gather something at 95% success, often 3-5x in a row, but will fail an 8-24% success chance overmeld at nearly triple the likelihood. Something is very off about those chance differences, but whatever. It's frustrating, but we need some of that in this game. Finally achieving what you painstakingly set out to do is quite a nice feeling. Especially when you consider that your peers mostly give up on it (meaning more power to you). -

Don't need T4 materia to reach these stats at all. All my DoH and DoL that have these tools are able to reach these stats without them. The lowest meld chance you will be facing will be 19%.
Gathering is really easy to get the stats for through food and you technically only need to focus on melding for the gathering stat in order to be able to gather at the nodes, though getting HQ items is a different story. Crafter stats are really difficult mostly because you really want to be able to use +CP food to have a not-entirely-luck-based chance to craft 3-star items.
Get a bunch of L45-ish gear, meld some T1 materia on it, then go spiritbonding. Sell whatever you don't need and use that money to buy what you need, do the math and use your guaranteed meld slots on more expensive materia. You might have to start your melds all over on all new pieces of gear for better success rates on more important stats which isn't a big deal at all since any crafter worth their salt can hq them with no problems. -

It's funny because prior to 2.2 a common complaint from crafters was that there was nothing hard to make, which flattened the market. Now they made 3 star difficult with decent barriers of entry and some complain that it is too hard.
Reminds me of fleece, people complained that it was hard to farm so they made it easier and therefore worthless to farm. No foresight. Everyone I know who maxed out their melds easily made the money back.

It doesn't stop people botting it, it just gives honest farmers no incentive to farm as the bots can now multibox more to flood the market with cheap stacks. If you intentionally crash markets to try and drive botters out they will be the last to stop farming.

If there's a will, there's a way... and so on with my cliche old-timer sayings. It did however provide what was basically a high demand (and somewhat necessary) material for crafters to level with and use for their synths after the fact. Having one or more botters monopolize the market because of being able to hit one of only a few areas where the target spawns does far greater harm to legit players than having a larger supply of target spawns. The legit players do not only involve non-botting farmers, it also includes those who need the drop.Quote:
