Why can't we all have housing? does SE have to skimp on servers that much?

I find it kind of baffling the way they are handling housing.... or why its taking so long. When the other MMOs that implement housing do not force such limitations on the players....

Rift - probably the best housing system pre-wildstar has no such server limitations.... and is incredibly complex.

I keep using WildStar as a benchmark, not because its new, but because they are the only devs since WoW that have managed to do everything on release. But their housing is MASSIVE..... anyone can unlock it at level 14.... without spending millions.

Final Fantasy: A grind reborn ... spend millions on a small plot of land, with what is essentially very limited functionality? not even that fun.... can't make jump puzzles, no interesting buffs or mechanics... just... purely... aesthetic. (well ok a mail box, traning dummy ect)...

What is their reasoning behind this? don't say costs... this game is putting them in the green alone.

The game was RE-released about 1-2 years early. Give them some time.

On another note, if the only thing that bother you in a MMO is housing, then i dont even.

Our FC has Positioned Garden Furniture to be able to jump your way to the roof

I like the current system where not everyone is simply given a housing and that its something to work towards.

While I wouldn't want it just to be handed to everyone I don't see that's the main issue here.
I want personal housing as much as the next guy but they really should have some gameplay systems tied to it.
I'm not expecting XI levels of depth where every bucket has on-field effects but something. Housing needs to be a fun thing in itself and right now it's basically a VERY expensive glamour to the inn-room?

Give us reasons to want it and tie it with the core gameplay.

My goal since I started was to get my own house. My FC (with only one member) is currently rank 5 now and I have more than enough to buy it. I think it would be really boring if I'd just got a house for no reason

Probably because the bean counters at SquareEnix didn't allocate a big enough budget for servers when they were rebuilding the game. Remember when it first started, they said it was way WAY more popular then they thought'd be. Now they're having to play catch up, and thankfully they seem to be getting the money they need now probably mostly thanks to ARR being one of the big reasons they're actually doing decently financially right now.

We'll get personal housing, they just couldn't get it quite in time for 2.3. They said they might get it in even slightly after, and not have to wait til 2.4 for it.

Sense 2.2 and now I've racked up almost 2m gil, With almost nothing worth spending it on. Beside Meld for crafting jobs with I have to say I can't see it being worth it because I don't craft for gil. And wow you could make some gil crafting now that gil is coming out of the system so fast.

Prices on the market boards have come up nicely on many items.

Also if you think WOW had everything at start. I'm not sure when you started to play wow.

I knew people in EQ2 that subbed primarily because of the housing system.

Put in a housing system with decently large spaces, no limitations on placement and a large variety of items and it increases the time a player will stick with a game.
Some people care more for their house than their character.

I never got the whole housing thing but still probably wasted over 100 hours on it.

Also, purchase plus upkeep fees are a great Gil sink.

I'm a little disappointed with the housing thing aswell to be honest, although I did having a feeling it might end up like the inn system I was still hoping that it wouldn't. This was the next big feature I was looking forward too in FFXIV and i've pretty much been doing nothing but raising gil in the past couple of months to make sure I could afford a house.

IMO having a 'place to call home' is important in an MMO, and I don't think it should be reliant on you being in a free company. If they couldn't host individual houses for everyone, then an apartment system would have been better than a room in a FC house. I'll wait to see more before completely writing it off but at the moment it seems very meh.

I think it'll take time for the money to generate to optimize the servers for the game enough to get optimal housing options. But honestly, I do understand why it's taking so long and, as much as I want to get my own house right now, I'll take the FC Private Rooms for now and make do.

Though if SE doesn't increase ARR's budget within the next year, then they're probably gonna lose a fair amount of business from folks waiting so long for servers to get fixed and optimized so that these 90k errors stop happening all the time, we get additional wards for housing, and more servers open up overall to lighten the load on the other pre-existing servers, maybe with like, say... discounted server transfers for the first seven days after new servers open?

I dunno, something like that. But I'm the last person who's going to blame Yoshi and the rest of the ARR dev team because of the faulty servers. It's just not their fault.

Housing falls under the role playing category. I personally have owned and played Sims 2 for years so I pay FFXIV as an additional game to my main game. I will never expect an mmo to have what I can get from Sims because mmorpg's are not simulations. A fantasy simulation mmorpg would be bliss. That isn't FFXIV's game design. FFXIV is a themepark; killing mob is it's design. I can't kill mob in sims so I play this. I am pretty sure that one day someone will make a simulation mmorpg. We don't have the tech for a game that advance right now. Of course when that day comes everyone will be upset the npc's don't have the most advanced artificial intelligence.

FFXIV-ARR is graphically pretty (anyone know what engine?) but I don't think it's made to hold much. The more SE adds the more this game will lag.

As a player who plays XIV, and has been in (and will play) Wildstar, I can see your point. And don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a bigger limit on housing (I want to touch up our fc house so bad! But we've already hit cap...wish we had more storage...) I know they'll be adding individual housing soon, and it's weird, but I'm one of the only ones in my FC excited about that XD (Most of them are content with their rooms that will be coming) I believe Yoshi did say that he wants to let us do chocobo breeding, which will tie in with our homes. (I think/hope), As well as building airships from our fc homes. (I dont remember the source for that one, but correct me if I'm wron), but I do agree that I wish our homes had more re-visit value. :/ I hardly ever see anyone at the FC house anymore..now that it's initial appeal is gone. I hope they find a way to help players want to spend more time in their homes. (Not that I want the population to disappear, just...well, you know XD....)

blah I was all over in my comment. I agree, yet I'm content atm. I'm ok that it doesn't have QUITE the level of customization as Wildstar (even though that'd be cool) I'm sure it'll all come in due time. :)

I'm not sure if adding wards are a necessity right now, not all plots are filled even on Tonberry, an ultra populated server.

Increasing the relevance of FC housing and what it can offer seems to be more important than simply adding new wards.

WoW had practically nothing promised at start. I still have my original box which promotes player housing, and epic quests, neither of which existed at start (and I think they still don't). There was a plethora of stuff that did not make it for WoW launch, which they said would be there.

Sounds like GW2. While small, they said it'd have Polymock Chess (too lazy to look up the name right now), and the entrance to teh area has been in since Beta, yet nothing has ever been said other than a couple times near launch where they said it wasnt ready.

I'm still trying to figure out why I should want a house. It seems like a gil sink with no real purpose.

What is the purpose of anything in the game?
To have fun and kill time.

Someone that spends 3 hours decorating their house has fulfilled as much purpose as someone who has run dungeons for 3 hours.
It's all relative to how someone wants to spend their time.

FC housing will be required for chocobo stables to raise your own chocobos (seemingly) and for airship building which supposedly your own built airship may be required to enter certain future content somewhere down the line. But yes you are right, currently the housing's "secret" purpose is as a massive gil sink to fight inflation.

I personally think the housing system would of been much better implemented if they used a sort of progression system for it. You could start out with a small piece of land and a small house and over time earn enough gil to upgrade the size of your land and house. Right now I have enough money to buy a small house but refuse to do it because I'd eventually like to get the large one. If there was a progression system, the small houses wouldn't feel like such a waste of money.

Money is rapidly becoming easier & easier to obtain (i.e. Challenge Log)... it's not hard to earn the funds in an appropriate time-frame, especially for a Small Estate.

Also, this' FC Housing. Personal Housing is coming soon which will be remarkably cheaper.

i had fun gathering rare materials an making the cool furniture for my fc's house, we have a few jump puzzles inside an outside, an there is buffs from furniture for crafters an there is plenty of FC buffs for everyone else

furniture that plays music, stuff that glows, thats all pretty cool, gardening is currently one of the most profitable things in the game, choco breeding is comin soon, i think our housing is doing pretty well.

an there is one thing that this game's housing has over wildstar... graphics! i cant downgrade

From what dev have said it definitely seems that the servers are what's holding back housing. Like wildstar and other games I think everyone should be able to have a personal house without breaking the bank. We shouldn't be punished and have to pay a ton of gil because SEs servers can't handle everyone having a house.

I also hope things like a chocobo stable aren't exclusive to FC housing and we will be able to have them in our personal houses.

That is the case on your server but not all servers are like yours with available plots. I'm on Balmung NA LEGACY and we have about 2 small plots left in Ul'dah. Every other plot is gone on my server. In the future please speak for yourself or your server alone especially if you don't know the condition of other peoples servers. I think it's only fair to allow those who have not purchased land the opportunity to do so. Adding additional wards should take priority over adding features to housing until more of the playerbase is allowed to experience this feature.

with 2.3, defunct FC housing will also be removed, potentially opening up more plots.

I did mention that i'm "not sure" and I specifically mentioned Tonberry. Are you certain that on Balmung all plots are taken, including M & L sized plots?

That wouldn't particularly fulfill me. If I have a house, I want it to be because I can do something there that I can't do otherwise.

Aesthetics are half the fun for me. Having my own house in the game would be absolutely wonderful as I display all of my wonderful things in perfect harmony.

I am not saying a word when I have managed to earn all the necessary gils I needed for a small house on my own... But yeah this is fc housing meant to be a combined effort from multiple members rather than trying to get one alone. I'd say wait and see what personal housing is gonna be like before ranting about SE skimping on servers.

You can breed a chocobo with the stable in the garden.
And coloring your chocobo (i'm sure you need for this also the stable)
