Did blizzard invent jump with the creation of WoW?
I don't understand :(.
World of Warcraft has a really stupid jump animation, and it seems like the majority of the population there can't help but spam it nonstop.
Because of fanboys.
People who dislike jump will quote WoW because it's.
1. Most popular MMO on the market.
2. The worst example of jumping in a game ever: Not only is the animation horendous "What animation in WoW Isn't" but the population consists of moron who have nothing better to do after spending 3 days hitting the level cap than to bunny hop allover the place.
FFXIV's player animations already beat WoWs. Theres no way jumping in FFXIV would look as ugly or be as useless.
Same reason that naked elves standing on the mailbox asking for gold are...
Becuase wow is the top game in the market so when SE say we releasing the first thing most people mind would go -.- oh god wow dungeon. Even i thought it was going to be wow dungeon but it seem much better then wow version. When we talk about them adding mount and using more then just chocobo i think about the lame mounts in wow.
Even how bad wow is look wise, gameplay wise, storyline in the game wise. when it come with anything we think of wow due to the high market for wow,.
What I want to know is why some people find jumping so offensive lol. Its like "Did... Did that guy just jump? Did that guy just...jump? WHAT THE $%&*!!!! %&*-!!!!!!!! %&*%&*&$&!!!!!!!! *censor censor* */blist add jumping offendor*" lol I just picture these people screaming at their screens... xD!!!!
Maybe because wow is the best example of the jump feature gone wrong? I played eq for years and never remember anyone trying to grief me by leapfrogging over or around me repeatedly. Its not the feature itself, but rather if the playerbase is mature enough to use it properly. Apparently in wow they are not.
This kid does not approve of jumping.
jump is really hard to animate, they can animate it decently and cool, but for that, lalafell need to jump much less than Roegadyn... and that would violate any kind of equality between races.
So they have to do it in a way all races jumps same height.. and that will be HARD to be cool animated
This kid does approve of jumping...
From now on we will refer to Jumping based on Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) seeing as that's the MMO Yoshi is most familiar with.
I don't think anyone is "offended" by jumping by itself.
People have already explained specifically in this thread what type of jumping becomes annoying, as is common in WoW, is when there are people who are spamming their jump buttons like rabbits on speed simply because they can't sit still for a second or are trying to get attention.
It's annoying when you're standing still trying to talk to someone, or going through inventory, and someone is jumping around you in circles non-stop purely to get your attention.
It's annoying when you're in the middle of a tough quest or dungeon where aggro could mean death and some guy with a twitchy jump finger is hopping all over the damn place.
And then of course, there's when you get a bunch of chronic hoppers in one place, they see one person do it, so they join in... next thing you know it's Bouncy Castle time...
The remark at about 1:50 in this video kinda sums it up well... and humorously.
I have no issue with a jump key being in the game. I don't think one is necessary, but I'm not opposed or "offended" to it being there. It's more what will happen when hyper-active people who can't sit still get access to it that I'm concerned about.
I seriously hope SE puts limitations in place that prevents people from spamming it.
Because anything that WOW has is bad, and it's the first MMO to invent bad things.
I thought emote, call, spell, and song spamming to be much, much more annoying in FFXI. People will always figure something out to do when they're bored.
Still don't understand why jump spamming is so bad, but to each his own.
I kinda hated call too. They were useful to wake someone up who fell asleep because the extremely slow combat system (me), but not for too much else. I know some people who want those calls in FFXIV. They better not be the ones complaining about jump being anoying tho >.>
At least jumping doesn't fill up my combat log or have annoying sounds.
World of Warcraft and the Final Fantasy we play appeal to very different audiences (imo). Do people really feel that if they add jump, those types of players will go "finally!!!" and just start flocking over in hordes...?
I personally believe the only MMO that will flock all of those types of players away is a new MMO by Blizzard. I played WoW, for a while, I grew bored at the end of Sunwell when they homoginized all of the classes. I've tried pulling a few people away, for a few different MMOs, 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work. I don't see FFXIV ever becoming a game that could.
Of course not. But I can guarantee you that the vast majority of the people who had an interest in this game, or bought it and left, put it down because the gameplay was a step back from everything else that's out right now, FFXI included.
To use your logic, people shouldn't be trying to make this into FFXI-2, because the people who like FFXI already play it and aren't going to dump it for this game. FFXIV needs to be fun and modern in its own right.
Can you please explain how is it so annoying to you?
How does it affect you or other players in any way if someone is spamming the jump button?
It's annoying when you're standing still trying to talk to someone, or going through inventory, and someone is running around you in circles non-stop purely to get your attention.
It's annoying when you're in the middle of a tough quest or dungeon where aggro could mean death and some guy with a twitchy finger is running all over the damn place.
And then of course, there's when you get a bunch of chronic runners in one place, they see one person do it, so they join in... next thing you know it's Running Castle time...
See what I did there? Why not remove Running from the game while we're at it?
If such thing annoy you maybe its a problem in your end... Other players jumping does not affect you or anyone else. If you have such a big problem seeing it in your screen tilt your camera away or something.
It makes no sense why people complain about jumping. Even if someone does it 20000 times a session does it really matter? Mind your own business and let people do what they want. Like seriously it doesn't affect you in anyway.
This is just a common theme in MMOs that traditionally have not had jumping. I've seen it in the Guild Wars community, FF Online and Ryzom. ALL those communities put their games in a bubble of perceived 'specialness' that just can't be 'ruined' by such basic features as jumping. Never mind that it's a standard now, never mind that the grand majority of players in general (not fan boys and girls) expect it, their games are too darned special and different to be lowered so.
Always they ask for limits IF such a thing were implemented, these are tiresome complaints that have very little value to the overall gameplay and enjoyment of the game. These are probably the same people who can't handle ugly characters as seen in Aion because it ruins their precious conceived opinion of what the game world should be like.
Makes me wonder why there are such sentiments of wanting to control how others want to play, this goes to every gamer who wants to complain about how casuals or hardcores ruin their games too, how incredibly self absorbed. Proof that people just can't play a game that's given to them and figure out how to amuse themselves with it, every thing has to be tailored to you, imo that's where the REAL laziness from gamers comes from. Use your noodle once in a while to challenge yourself....
And now getting off topic.
I'm actually all for there being actual differences between the different races. Perhaps if there were some actual benefits and drawbacks to the choices, we wouldn't have the legion of catgirls running around.
I started playing WoW about six months after its release, and playing off and on until Cataclysm, so I'm fairly familiar with the game. While the jumping isn't quite as bad as indicated, it is bad enough to be annoying at times. Dalaran was especially bad once they introduced the mammoth and sparkle pony mounts.
You know, I rather like the jump animations in WoW. But then, I actually find WoW's art style to be endearing; like a 3D stylized oil painting. And after spending three years playing FFXI, where a pebble can cause you a 45 minute detour, jumping was the single greatest thing that I'd ever been introduced to in the MMO genre.
Hate on my bunny hops, I can still do my job while spamming space bar. I played a Resto Druid -- jumping was practically part of my toolkit.
