How about you answer you own questions? 3 months is long enough to form an opinion in what your asking.
inc wowhate bandwagon
This game copies far too many elements from WoW - weekly raid lockouts, time gating, daily content, justice/valor points (along with weekly cap), vertical patch progression making old gear useless...
That's my problem with it.
I feel like WoW is a better game. It has more options for gearing, more options for raiding, more options for 'vanity' and non raiding content. The reason I don't play it anymore is just cause I'm tired of that game. Not to say I dislike FF14, I like it, but I do feel it's a rather mediocre game. My FC is the only reason I'm still playing. I like the people and I like doing things with them. As far as improvements...
Incorporation of crafting gear into endgame content
More interesting raid mechanics, no more titan-like fights
I really hated WoW's LFR system, but I loved the FLEX system, would like that here
I've gotten use to the slower GCD, but I still don't like it, prefer faster
Options for gear progression
No raid lockouts
Less rehashing of the same bosses
The areas are so tiny, wish they were larger and filled with actual threats
Atma/animus/nova weapon is suppose to be epic (or is it)....it's very much the opposite
Also, this thread isn't going to end well.
So people think WoW is better because it has more content... Do people just forget that this game has been out for not even 9 months while WoW has been out for >10 years?
FFXIV: ARR Had two jobs, Redeem the failure that was FFXIV 1.0, and to make Square Enix money.
Yoshi has accomplished both.
Elements have been copied from wow, because? Shocker. they work. they sell. Its makes Money.
Is it a dying Breed? The MMO Style the Famed "WoW-Style MMO"? Probably. but as of This Moment it is making money.
Can the Direction of FFXIV: ARR change in the future? Yes it can. The game doesn't even have an Expansion out yet, Give the game time. It will get better.
Please Look Forward to It.
-Larger Zones (PS3 currently can't render large volumes of topology/textures this may be an issue)
-Larger Scale PvP Zones/Players (Battlegrounds)
-Multiple scales of difficulty for RAIDS. Having a 'Standard' then an 'Enhanced' BCOB would be very interesting.
-A world that's actually dangerous in some places. FFXIV 1.23 and FFXI did this rather well.
how to improve XIV... stop copying every concept from WoW.
IT is what is holding this game way back atm.
Everything in 11's world did not one shot you, most things didn't really, they would just chase you down, pecking away at your HP till you dropped or you escaped, and many times it was just a sheer number of mobs that would take you down. Though it got a bit easier when the mobs began to be leashed to their respective area on the map, but you still had to sneak around (thread the needle!) and that made the world at least slightly dangerous compared to how nothing trash can kill you in ARR.
As for 1.xx of 14, yes they relied on mobs being over leveled to make areas dangerous, which did get tiresome, but again added more of an element of you aren't a god walking amongst fleas that were just mere annoyances all the time at least.
Yea for sure. I mean there are many degrees of in-between lol
It would be nice to have more enemies that act like the Aevis in Stone Vigil where you can get ambushed. Maybe some enemies that affect the terrain or make it harder to avoid enemies in the area, enemies that make others in the area stronger, things like that.
Really the worst part about it was that for a long time everything had a ranged attack so you would get hit for 9k+ out of nowhere.Quote:

Like compared then WoW: (things that are awesome)
The mature/realistic feel of the game: From the way the NPCs talk, to the way most the gear looks. It feels more realistic then WoW, a more solid world somehow.
The fights: While they haven't gotten over the top crazy or super super hard, I do enjoy them atleast as well as WoW fights.
Crafting/Gathering: I enjoy some thought going into this other then just push and click.
Controller: Nice to just sit back and play with one
One character: I like having everything on one. Makes me feel more connected to that character.
Dislike compared to WoW: (aka things to be improved)
Doesn't feel as smooth: WoW is smooth as butter, this isn't a deal most of the time but on certain fights, it's killer.
Lack of neat gear stats: I like things that change/add to core abilities, this game has none of that yet.
Addons: While they are coming, they aren't here yet. While required addons suck, I like to be able to see my DPS when I try out a new rotation/gear.
Racials: I think it's a neat idea to set the races apart. I can understand the idea of cutting down on min-maxing, but I like having some separation.
Alts: This game sucks at alts, bottom line.
I don't know if I can call myself a "WoW veteran" since I haven't played the game in many years. I'm a former WoW veteran. However, when I did play, I played it a lot.
I play for PvE end-game raiding. Killing end-game bosses is why I play MMOs.
For what it's worth, given the above profile, here's what I think about FFXIV vs WoW:
-FFXIV's boss fights are great. Probably on par with some of the best fights in WoW. They are very well-designed and pretty well-tuned. Not every fight is great (I hate EX Leviathan) but they did a great job here.
-To me, the best thing WoW had over FFXIV is the quantity of raid content. Imagine if FFXIV dropped a raid dungeon triple the size of Second Coil of Bahamut. "Here's the Third Coil of Bahamut: Turns 10 through 20. Now, go nuts!" The environments were just as vast and detailed and the boss fights were equally intricate. That's what WoW was like when a raid content patch came out. This simply cannot happen with Final Fantasy XIV or any other MMO nowadays. Back then, WoW was THE MMORPG. They had so many subscribers and so much room for growth that they could warrant spending all these resources to create this much content. Nowadays, the MMORPG scene is split between several niche games. No game is big enough to for content to be released at this pace.
-The second thing thing WoW had over FFXI was character customization. Actual customization. Talent Points, Enchantments, Gems, Glyphs, etc... Even the professions you chose gave bonuses to your guy, so you have to choose carefully. Compare this to "Dump 30 points into your best stat" Attribute system that FFXIV has. Materia is really bland and boring, and it can't even be melded into end-game i110 gear. It had better itemization. Trinkets and other activateable items, set bonuses, many gear options, number crunching spreadsheets. WoW had much better stats design too. None of this "choose shitty secondary stat A vs shitty secondary stat B" that we see in FFXIV. Characters were more diverse and optimizing your character took more work and was much more fun.
-The third thing WoW had was actually fun stuff to do outside of raiding. So, what do you do in FFXIV when you're not in Coil? Level an alt class? Craft or gather? Level a second character? These things are available in WoW. Atma/Animus? *BARRRRF*. In Wow, the X-Factor was PvP. There was always battlegrounds, arena or World PvP to do. It was basically unlimited content and it was compelling. There is PvP in FFXIV too, but let's be serious. This game simply isn't built for PvP. The PvP in this game sucks.
So yeah, am I satisfied with FFXIV for the boss encounters. They're a lot of fun. We're on the verge of beating Turn 9. But what's next? There isn't enough raid content to satisfy me, nor can I expect them to create more raid content than they already do. There isn't any compelling content outside of raiding.
FFXIV can never compare to WoW in the category that is most important to me: quantity of difficult raid content. No game can anymore. Not even current WoW (which kinda sucks). This isn't necessarily a complaint. It's simply a matter of fact. FFXIV's player base isn't as big, so there are budget limitations. FFXIV's player base is primarily casual, so I can't expect the game to cater to my demographic. Old-school WoW was the best, but it's a thing of the past and since I don't have a time machine, FFXIV is the best alternative for me.
Wanna stop you there. WoW had the illusion of customization. Nothing more. Maybe back in vanilla where everything was like the wild wild west, maybe. But by Lich King, every spec was the same for every player, and if you deviated from the same 0/31/12 (I don't remember the numbers. Been a while since I played WoW) you were useless to everybody, a troll, and a bad undeserving of life itself. Same can be said about enchants, gems and glyphs.
Now, FFXIV is no better. But at least it doesn't lie to you.
I think crafting needs to play a better role in end game gear. As of right now, crafting is essentially relegated to vanity. Perhaps gear augmentations such as enchants, reforges, and reinforcements should be something crafting can provide to coil gear.
Why would you even ask this? Making this game anymore like WoW would only make it die faster. You'll never beat WoW or even legitimately compete with it by just making a reskinned WoW. WoW already has its audience and they never leave because every other mmo released is just another crappy WoW clone with less content than what they're already playing. They need to make it less like WoW and try to hook a niche but loyal audience that's good for long term income. WoW players don't want to play another WoW. If they did there wouldn't be a few million of them jumping from mmo to mmo desperately looking for something that DOESN'T play like WoW.
I personally feel like FFXIV's better, for me. Everything feels more solid and real somehow. The world's smaller, but let's be honest; WoW's largely just empty space and reused textures. You can't pick talents and stuff here, but being able to put everything on the same character makes it feel a lot more personalized, to me.
Low-level content in FFXIV is a lot more engaging. The dungeons you go through before hitting cap are epic, like Stone Vigil, and don't feel like just a long string of pulling trash mobs. The quest chains feel more interconnected. There's nothing that pulled on my heartstrings as much as Fiona's caravan did, but that was just in one zone and then I never saw them again. It's been really exciting seeing how the story keeps building up here, patch after patch, and I feel personally invested in Revenant's Toll especially, like it's a reflection of FFXIV's success.
Tl;dr: No Worgen sniffing or fake Chinese accents. +1,000,000 points for FFXIV.
Something like that, except the abilities are useful in certain situations, of course there were optimal perks that were useful most of the time, but you could use any and it wasn't a huge deal. But this is all when I stopped playing. It could have changed again. But honestly it doesn't matter, people will jump on the hate train, it's inevitable. /shrug
The responsiveness, if I press an off GCD ability that's clearly labeled as instant in between a GCD it should go off instantly, no excuses. I don't care if it's by design to not interrupt animations, it's frustrating mashing a key that isn't greyed out and the ability not going off until it wants to if at all. TOR had the exact same issue and got a lot of of deserved flack for it though I hear it did get fixed eventually, somehow this game gets away with it and still hasn't been fixed because it's "by design" which makes it even worse. Yes, I know some animations can be cancelled but that also makes the issue even more blatant and it doesn't really work with all abilities every time anyway.
I played WoW primarily from Vanilla to BC, some what during WotLK, very very very little of Cataclysm.
I like XIV a lot more in certain aspects; its casual where it needs to be, and hardcore where it should be. My only gripe is the lack of things to do outside of just farming the same old dungeons, and the lack of exploration. I also kind of miss the lack of customization of character through talents and abilities, but I know Final Fantasy has always had their own thing with cross-class skills, and I'd just like to see an improvement on that.
In another thread I suggested that, at some point, this game may need to create something akin to WoW's heirloom gear. The reason being that in previous incarnations of a FF MMO there have been quite a number of classes. Once the quests are done, they dont magically come back when you start another class. Your options become limited in the ways that you can effectively level up. This is why, at some point, I think they will need to create some type of gear that can grant leveling classes bonus xp.
I think that XIV is in the right place and the constant content progression is something I'd gladly boast on it's behalf.
What it can improve in is simply toning down the punishment of the mechanics for end-game content.
Overall I'm really glad to be a part of ARR. I thank Yoshi-P and the rest of the staff for making the hard work to make FFXIV an over all joyful experience. My complaints are mainly community related because of the end game environment.
LESS RNG and BETTER YET replace the random loot to valor points mode.
Never played WoW but I been around the MMO hub for a while.
Game is alright it's blooming slowly but surely but there is, of course, lack of things and there is some problems.
Disclaimer: Just my opinions.
- I would like more casual stuff, that is coming soon so I won't have to worry about this. Sorry, doing CT/Bray HM weekly and I'm
not going to bother with coil right now...It seems more of a hassle. I like end-game at times but I don't always wanna fight lol.
It does drives me off a bit. I'm leveling different class/jobs so I'm enjoying it so far. :)
- The battle system, as playing a DPS, I would like it to be a lot more faster than it is now. I keep hearing "ding ding ding" because I'm ready for my next action.
This won't be changed. :c They battle system feels a liiiil slow to me. I hate GCD. xD
- Crafting seems to lost a role in this game. They said they'd re-vamp it but I dunno how they mean so I'll wait.
- Do away with FATE's. Honestly, what was a good mechanic at first glance, turns out to be the end-all be-all of so much things. It's boring.
With that said, rehashing old things is not fun. Titan Legendary is probably next. No more please.
There's more but that's my thoughts. The game is pretty much generic and standard but I know it's getting better by the patch.
I'd say this is way more fun than 2.0. All you did there was AK and WP and I quit in like 2 months lol.
Comparing games, esp. one that is well over a decade years old is unfair. Give it time to grow it really is getting more fun.
Less "I'm bored" threads than it was in 2.0 that's for sure.
as a WoW vet, I think the number one thing FFXIV can and SHOULD improve on is server communication. The way the client and the server communicate everything (position, skills, everything) is THE worst I've ever seen in any MMO. And it's sad, seeing as the game is otherwise very good, there's enough content seeing as the game is still a pretty new MMO (not kidding, compared to other newly launched MMOs, FFXIV is in a very good place especially patched up now), and it's very enjoyable. (though PvP and crafting have room for improvement. But PvP's main downside comes from server communication as I've said). It pains me so, that such a thing is weighing the game down so much. I wish they'd work on it, as it's saddening to see that they haven't even mentioned working on it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d9FTZ7C9yA This bs never happens in WoW and never did.
I miss flying mounts. flying is great
Not really. 3 months means you may have a basic grasp of the game's current expansion, but you'd need a while to have an idea of what to say. That's not even mentioning that 3 months is not enough time for one to develop a frame of reference.
Despite claims to the contrary, XIV's story is already ahead of WoW's. XIV's class design is in a bit of an odd place, though I think that's in part due to limited choices in-game.
The main issue I have is more with gear progression and what they're implementing as raids. I wasn't entirely overjoyed with the idea of relics, since less relics per tier = encouraging guilds to organize themselves. Raids should really be more than CT and Coil. Even at launch in my favorite WoW expansion, you had a decent amount of time to be spent raiding once you got to cap. Two/three days doing Naxxrammas, one day for Obsidian Sanctum and Eye of Eternity and getting control of Wintergrasp to do Vault of Archavon. Even more time if you're working on achievements (Sartharion+3, killing Malygos in under 6 minutes).
One could mention Coil and its turns, and I would agree if each turn was a separate dungeon with multiple bosses per turn instead of trash and one boss. I figured Coil would have been comparable to a multi-wing raid like Naxxrammas or Ulduar that was just so big it had to be cleared over the course of two or three days. Imagine my dissapointment when I heard people could clear it in an hour.
And yet if they locked on to you, you were already dead 99% of the time.
Can't agree with XIV's story being better than WoW's.There is so much lore in that game found through books, quests and items, it's ridiculous. I had to go through a bunch of wikis to make sure I caught everything (or most). I found it much more interesting than what XIV has. The only interesting thing I saw was the last parts of the 1.0 storyline and the final part with the reset. Though, liking the story is just a matter of preference, so whatevs.
I agree with raid thing though. I know the primals are suppose to be the other thing to do besides coil, but that's literally like 7 minutes or so and then that's over.
I generally found you were dead 99% of the time cause you aggro'd something else while running away from the first mob. Then you'd aggro something else, followed by another.
i can agree with you on the lore part. Though i can live without it, I like tidbits spread out and hidden in the game, lore stuff that makes the game more immersive, sets up mystery (books, NPC dialogue, whatever). FFXIV's story is fine though, I'd just like to see some more in-depth lore tbh.
I personally think this story is the worst of all Final Fantasy games. I'm not saying is downright bad...but it's pretty...well not that good.
It's either that or just simply not my cup of tea, y'know? I dunno, I'm not liking the story much but I do like the crafting and class/job story quests.
I also wish my character could friggin' talk or have more options. GW2 spoiled me with having options.
Would love if my mom or brother dad anyone.. or whatever was apart of the calamity and stuff and I finally found the grave or something and did something amazing before it all. Just something that ties me into the world and have a past than some random cat chick adventurer of light whatever. I feel like an errand woman lol.
They even stated [NPC's] that they are sorry for taking you go on random quests so often.
No it was flying, The ability to choose what fought you took so much outta the game. It made ganking just... ugh. Before if you wanted to gank some low level players, you risked them calling in their guild or a high level player of their own. Now... well you could still call in your guild, but they are just going to sit there on their flying mount and wait for every one to go away. Ruined open world PVP for me. 100% ruined it for me.
