Summoner Egi rebalance

The reason why Garuda is the only viable pet for end game is because Square designed the Egis around their role instead of the elemental wheel. Since each Primal is the embodiment of their element the Egis should be rebalanced around their element rather than the role they fill to make them more diverse.

The egi need a full remap because SE knew players from final fantasy XI will come over yet they made it a DOT Class. WHY ARE WE A DOT CLASS? WHY! We are called SUMMONERS! but wait what did the mod say.

In the end result this is what SE is saying part of the power was cut in half maybe tiny peaces are left around the world...and was given to summoners to use egi lol how barzaa is that.

All my post are coming on the 1st page is it me or everyone getting the same crap here?

Even in Final Fantasy XI the Summoner's didn't have the True Avatars the Avatars we had were 1/3 the size and power of the True Avatars but they were more detailed. What they should've did with the Summoner's pet was scale down the Primal to 1/3 of its actual size and power like they did with single player Final Fantasy titles.

The issue is the Summoner needed to be fixed since open beta and all square has done is nerf the Summoner without addressing it's design flaws.

Egis are getting the rebalance NOT because of XI summoners, but because Garuda is the ONLY pet that's actually worth using, and they want to change that, plus they want to make room for the 2 new pets coming after 2.3. Summoner is going to stay how is it is now, just with Ifrit possibly being more viable in endgame

@OP - Please stop making threads, find a new class to play or a new game or at least ask for a new class/job that features things you would want.

Don't try to take away this game's SMN just because you don't like it.

No, wait. I would use Ifrit-Egi or Levi-Egi or Ramuh-Egi if they had a powerful dot even if they can't use Contagion: I mean, 6 dots instead of 3 dots for the double time would be nice.
I think that Contagion is the only reason we use Garuda-Egi at the moment.
But if Summons could put other dots and they could affect our Festers I would summon one of the other summons with no problems.

Contagion conserves MP for long boss fights which no other pets will have. They followed the Rift model where each pet represented a role rather than their element. Garuda is the wind element so she will always be our main attacker. Ifrit will always be doomed to killing trash and Titan is our tank. Unless they give the Egis an aoe eventual attack that leaves 20s Dot I don't see how they can make Ifrit and other Egis useful without a straight up nerf to Garuda.

Actually, Garuda was your final summon and the final primal you fight in the story. When we got ifrit, we still had carbuncle..

Ifrit is designed to be a melee dps pet. Ifrit has advantages himself over the others and will do more dps then garuda or titan, but contagian makes garuda more effeciant for boss fights.

Titan is your tank pet, all pet classes in any mmo I have EVER played or heard of has a tank pet who's sole job is to tank. Wow hunters had them.. the bear for example yet they don't use them in raids, only solo. Rift has them on each pet class, Aion, etc etc etc. There is nothing wrong with Titan, he is working as intended.


Garuda is your range dps pet, by being range there is less of a chance you need to watch your pet's hp which makes garuda easier to manage then ifrit.. ifrit could get tail-swiped or cleaved, garuda won't unless you position her to get it, or the tank tries to troll you.

As of right now, ifrit is also the pvp pet so he does have a use.

Aion, has a tank pet, a melee dps pet, a range dps pet, and a pvp pet.
Rift, as far as I am aware each pet class again, has a tank pet, melee dps pet, and range dps pet... no specific pvp pet
WoW, there are so many different pets you can get, but as normal most people get the cat because it's the best dps.

Contagion makes Garuda better all the time. Besides that, their DPS is extremely close; Contagion just pushes it way over the edge.

It's pretty much useless in this game, but I can't complain about having it; like you said, it's staple.

Using a 2 second stun just engages heavy diminishing returns in exchange for a garbage stun. It's bad to use it if there are any other stuns on your team because those stuns that actually matter (and have a duration worthwhile) will get reduced because of Ifrit. It basically just functions as an interrupt with the downside of causing stun DR... but Garuda has an interrupt herself, so... no.

Ifrit is just useless.

The reason people us Garuda is because she is ranged and is unlikely to die during a Raid unlike Ifrit who will get killed cleaved by the boss and constantly has to be re summoned costing mp.

Not really. Some fights, I'll move Garuda closer to the boss/group to take advantage of aoe heals. Ifrit is only a little more of a challenge to position if the boss rotates a lot. You still have to place garuda when bosses come and go like Titan.

Garuda is used because of Contagion, which should be used whenever a mob will live long enough and only saved if raging strikes is about to be available.

I would honestly like to see Contagion made into a job ability along with the egi rebalancing. It could replace tri-disaster completely since SMN gets bliz2 now.

There's actually a little rock formation you can put Garuda on for Titan HM and EX where she'll be safe for the whole fight as long as she gets a medica 2 occasionally. Which will hit her as long as the whm is in the center or left side of the arena

Here's a real idea for an Egi change - reduce the damage Ifrit takes so he doesn't die in 1 boss AoE. You now can use all of your egis.
Ifrit - High DPS but with micro management
Garuda - Slightly less DPS but less micro management
Titan - Solo content

Egis are already immune or have very high resistance to many mechanics.

And yet they're still liable to die multiple times over the course of any fight with appreciable AoE if you aren't micromanaging their placement or throwing heals at them regularly.

The summons are currently resistant to a lot of mechanics, but I wouldn't say that it's enough yet.

can anyone say AoE dot? pretty much always a one shot, even with sustain in most cases.

Like what, exactly? I haven't come across anything through all extreme encounters and T6 that required more forethought than an occasional sustain or heel/place to take advantage of aoe heals. This is the first game that I've enjoyed a pet class this much. So, if the pet mechanics took too much effort I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy SMN as much as I do.

I haven't done T7-9. Are these encounters especially likely to kill pets?

t7: place center, leave it there, it wont be hit during the whole fight
t8: landmines can blow pets out of position some times, if it gets hit by the cone aoe by the boss after that, it will drop your pet to about 10-20% hp with a dot, pretty much an instant 1 shot on it since sustain alone wont keep it up.
t9: havent done enough to say for sure but from what i do know theres only a minimum we need to move pets to keep em same.

In Turn 7 it's more likely the SMN will die than the Egi, since they're regularly targeted by a move called Circle of Flame which its for 2-2.5k damage. As long as the Egi is placed in the center of the map, they should only be hit by some AoEs and the floor killing mechanic, neither of which one shot pets. Turn 8 is almost impossible for your pet to die, since it should be stacked on the party, unless it's in front of the boss, which is most likely able to be one shot to death. I myself have limited experience in Turn 9, but I have not had any trouble keeping Garuda alive.

Keep in mind that Garuda takes roughly 80-90% reduced AoE damage, so what Circle of Flame hits for me, would do about 200-300 to her.
