Takes forever to find a game. Does anyone even do pvp regularly?
I thought PvP was dead the day it was released. :O
It's very deep down on the priority list, I think, so it's not surprising. Maybe a future patch (or an actual expansion) will actually bring it up to the desired standards, but yeah, right now there's not much point in doing it....even less so because it's completely broken in many ways. :/
that would imply it was alive at some point
It's a Final Fantasy game, pvp has never been a priority which is why 2.0 wasn't launched with it. Final Fantasy 11 was the same way. PvP was added for the minority who believe that no mmo is complete without pvp.
I hate to say this but if you want a pvp fix you may need to keep a game like Guild Wars on the side. As far as I know, only the Guild Wars series was built from the bottom up to have balanced pvp that is equally as important as their pve (in some cases more important than pve).
PVP needs more than just the challenge log to make it worth it, honestly.
It really needs to get varied a lot. More than just 4 on 4 combat...more than just 2DD, 1 Healer, 1 tank combat. It needs a LOT more battlefields and landscapes.
Something more massive would be satisfying as well. Say what you will about ESO, but their castle capture PVP battles seem pretty awesome. Obviously don't just copy that for FFXIV, but it doesn't feel very epic atm.
Massive scale PvP or bust.
I'm not surprised at all that PvP has gone by the wayside. It was a vocal minority that wanted it, it got a commensurate amount of work and implementation. Is it any surprise that it got what little use it had? A vocal minority is still a minority no matter how vocal it is.
Wait, this game has PvP? REALLY??
Oh wait that's right, I really don't care.
never played pvp , not even planning to try it for the "first pvp game" psn trophy anytime soon
I never did the quest for that. Not interested on PvP in a FF game.
PvP never really interested me in the first instance. I've yet to step into the Wolves Den since my brief trip to complete the access quest... and even then only for the XP on a lower level class. I know there are some people who really covet stuff like this in their games, but FF has never been strongly PvP oriented so I don't really see it taking off for the majority of players.
they need room space on servers to bring stuff like individual house, or more content, well they can have that space by removing stuff nobody is using like PvP for example....
if they don't mention they removed it, nobody will mention it before a couple of weeks probably....
I have a feeling PVP will see a bit of a revival when large scale battles are released. PVP is usually some what of a niche crowd in most MMOs. The problem is SE has it in the extreme scale (Arena 4v4) where most people even are in the casual scene, and enjoy the big battle objective fights. I enjoyed some PVP in WoW, but haven't touched it in FFXIV because of this honestly. I even did some Arena in WoW, but don't plan on it here in FFXIV unless the future large scale battles reel me in more.
I'd like to try PvP at some point but I feel like i just don't have the time. I'm too busy with Atmas and Coil and crafting. Also, agreed with those who said it needs a little more love and attention first. I miss the FF11 PvP campaigns where it was basically a sport. Plus I think people need a little more motivation to do it, like having a tournament or something.
We get some battlefield type PvP in the next patch which I think will be more objective based (like capture the flag and shit). As far as I know this is going to be a slow release of PvP content with the first revamp hitting in 3 months.
We know they have no intention of removing PvP from the game or not building off of what they already have given that they are (in a month or so for 2.25) rebalancing PvP and adding in the animal set for PvP gear.
They may possibly wipe PvP stats (level and current PvP $$$) give that it is currently the least used function in the game and to make it a more even playing field when they release the new PvP stuff. That and I'm pretty sure that other than people who queue with friends and stuff, not a lot of people have PvP gear/ranks/skills/points/anything.
I love being primary target in this arena-based PvP. Because Kiting and spamming Regen is the bestest thing ever to do with my time.
...and nothing of value was lost.
I hope that PvP does get some work. I've always been an extremely casual pvp'er, but capture the flag type battles can be fun.
This game is a terrible fit for 4v4 arena/deathmatch gameplay, since it really highlights balance issues or technical problems (like LoS/positioning issues or the general delay ingrained into the combat system).
I feel like larger scale stuff like what they're planning for 2.3 with Frontlines or objective based stuff like WoW's battlegrounds would work a lot better in a game like this. Less of a focus on individual classes or compositions and more on people working together in larger groups to complete objectives.
I wasn't too impressed with the whole 4v4 pvp in Wolf's Den...just didn't really appeal too much to me.
Frontlines may be more promising, especially if it's larger scale as it seems to be (might make things more interesting and fun). I definitely think throwing in objectives can help improve it!
They don't remove it.
Yoshida already said that the current PvP arena is only a training arena for the real PvP content that is still coming

Tried once and hated it. NO Final Fantasy should have PvP.
I'll probably play pvp a bit more if it had multiple rounds before the match finishes, like 3 or 5 rounds per match.
But right now it's just one round and that's it. You'll need to requeue and wait for another party to form. That's too short.
Unless it already has that in higher-level matches and I don't know about it.
It really does need this. Can't wait for whatever it's called to be released... hopefully it won't have unnecessary (or too many) grouping-related restrictions. The main reason why PvP in games like WoW and GW2 are popular are the large-scale battles that don't "require" group coordination. Low turnout for arena style PvP was apparent in WoW from shortly after Arena seasons began. It's the exact same mentality why things like DF are so popular.
S.E just doesn't know how to do pvp.
FF = PVE,
PVP is something I did a few times, but it's my least liked thing to do in FFXIV
I did get my 10 / 3 wins last week challenge log.
I think this sums it up nicely. I really think the majority want game type objective instead of just running around trying to kill each other in a small arena. Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Domination, Ballista, Brenner. Where are these type matches at?
Bottom line is PvP right now is just boring.
To be honest, I think it's more in that their PvP specific skills are more of 'trump cards' than actual usable skills. And that leads to very linear playstyles.
Blackmage is forever CC duty with all those modes.
For 'camp' style modes it'll always be a PLD for hollowed ground runs.
WHM burst is stupid. Especially with the 3 second delay so you literally have to guess when they're ganna cure II.
Everyone else is just a body...
i like pvp , however pvp in FFXIV is boring, 4vs4 arena....bah....hope frontlines deliver , but i doubt it :(
FF14 only has PvP light mode because of the long GCD. Everyone who's PvPed before, on any MMO, knew it'd be a bust.
Don't get me wrong, I wish it was good.
No as far as I know.
To put a PvP into Duty finders so people have to wait in a line to get into fight. What a great idea.
PvP is content in which people don't want to really wait.
I hope they add something like ballista. I don't care what you guys say, ballista was the ****!
PvP died because the community decided to take advantage of every single cheap tactic they could to wring the most out of the system before SE could fix it.
3/4 pre made stacked teams jumping to avoid damage. Once every other match ended up following that formula I gave up and haven't gone back even after they "fixed" it.
I tried it, but it got boring very quickly. Most of the people I got paired up with were verbally obnoxious, too.
