This video was posted in another thread but it's sad to see that a 7 year old game has more life, realism, and sense of adventure than FF14.

i'm sure the dev team did know, but when the boss says it goes out it goes out. how much that was in the original dat files do you think was unfinished because the decision from above them said release it regardless of the state it's in?

remember this beautiful new dungeon was in the original dat files. thank you tanaka and the original staff for making this lovely dungeon.

There are pretty things in FFXIV as well but they have no purpose and give you no reason to go there. When you can go from R1 to R50 in one zone there is very little reason to go anywhere else. In FFXI as you levelled you would move from zone to zone fighting tougher enemies and while doing so you could experience and explore the world a little bit on your journey. In FFXIV there is no journey, just leves for the most part and that means you hover around the same places day in day out.

With the leve changes that may get people out and about a little bit more but bringing back grind parties I think would have a greater effect. When the game launched people would group up all over the place to grind mobs until it got nerfed in the November patch.

Along with this they need to give us a reason to visit landmarks currently in the game and give them a purpose and then add more. Even quests would be a start, for the most part quests just take you to an empty part of the map now occupied by some quest mobs. Why not send us to that temple or that tower stood there doing nothing.

Im sure its gonna get to that level one day, (hopefully we will see it ha)

This is one of the main reasons why I found FFXI so appealing. There was so much detail, so much heart put in each of the zones even with the limited graphical resources they had. After several years I still discovered new things, often by accident, and it was such a great feeling. Made the world feel so much more alive and dynamic.

Giving us sneak and invisible would be a nice start so we can easily sneak past high level mobs!

14 cant and likely never will hold a candle to 11.

Beautiful video! A game world like that makes you feel like you really are in another land, traveling from place to place. When I first started running around Eorzea I wondered why I wasn't getting that feeling. It was only after I realized the extent to which the world had been copy-pasted that I understood what was happening. When vast stretches of land consist of the same puzzle pieces repeated over and over it just doesn't feel like a world.

A good fantasy world must be lovingly crafted. You just can't piece it together using a few scenery templates.

ah the memories. I miss XI. The person who made that video really took their time to smell the flowers on their journey. Good stuff.

I'm sure this will be there, and hope Yoshi-P does this in the future, but for now i rather have him concentrated on what on hand rather than ditching it.

This is the primary reason why I'm so adamant that SE scrap XIV, and just remake FFXI, as they should have to begin with. Sure it would have been a massive undertaking, but so was building XIV, only to basically rebuild it again, as they're doing now...le sigh

Anyone that has played XI extensively and was actually attentive to the story, lore, world and everything the NPCs said would know there is a massive amount to the world of Vana'diel that was talked about or mentioned, but has never been added. Here is a map someone made that I'm assuming is their depiction of where the other continents are located and their shape/size.

There is a massive amount of untapped content for FFXI, and it really saddens me the way SE have changed FFXI, and how they ruined XIV. If only they had remade XI instead and moved it onto the PS3 so the PS2 would stop holding it back. Seriously, those still playing on the PS2 would have to just suck it up and repurchase the game remade and/or a PS3 to continue playing...or the PC ver.

Makes em wonder what zones will be reused for the lvl 91-95 and 96-99 level cap raise. And will we ever get another epic storyline to play through, seeing as Abyssea was quite short and not that great, or so I'm told. Just think, we could have been adventuring on another continent instead of waiting on them to fix this most horrible decision...

That's an excellent movie, can't believe there was so much I didn't ever witness or notice.

But seriously Yoshi does have his work cut out for his team if they hope to be able to compete with FFXI for the variety and that feeling of immersion that Vana'diel offered though it does have a few extra years of development as a head start I suppose, still you would have thought they learned from FFXI what people liked about it and had that ready from the get go for FFXIV.

Only problem for me is when I quit FFXI, I have away any non rare/ex gear I had, dropped everything else, gave away my gil and then deleted my character. I let people /random for my stuff on the streets so no way I could get anything back. I just loved peoples reaction when I dropped my full usukane though.

I did go back for a little while a few weeks ago with some LS members and wow things have change but I am not sure if it for the better. We flew up the levels pretty quick and getting parties was quick with level sync, even in the Dunes. Getting 800 EXP on Clippers in the Dunes my jaw nearly hit the floor lol. I suppose those were good changes but I didn't get to the Abysea thingy that I know a lot of people are up in arms about but I hear that has ruined FFXI for the most part.

How lifeless Eorzea is compared to Vana'diel.

I feel like FFXIV probably had a full world, just like FFXI did, but someone on the old team accidentally spilled a vat of coffee on the computers with all of the data on them, and then Tanaka had to make his team come up with new zones on the fly.

From what I understand and I do agree with, that yeah Abyssea has ruined everything that made XI so great. Each expansion was unique with new areas and a grand storyline to play through, and didn't blatantly recycle old zones so callously as Abyssea does. They made older/lesser zones see more traffic from high level players than normal and that was a good thing to bring life back to semi-dead areas. With Abyssea though everything prior has became obsolete.

I've spoken with one of my friends thats been playing since the JP release on PS2, and he tells me that once you get a job to lvl 30, you can enter Abyssea and just leech XP, stand there and do nothing most times, and you'll be lvl 90 in about 6-10hrs. Many times these lvl 30s are also just random new/old players just to fill a spot too. There are of course those that spend cruor buying keys to open chests that whole time, or other things, but yeah...so easy to get lvl 90 now.

Still though, I really just want to play through all the missions for each expansion, and watch the story play out. I've always loved it, but never saw much of it, cause I'd get so far then couldn't find help to get past a particular chapter.

The sad thing is it was probably a hell of a lot harder to make copy/paste terrains than it would be to just model it all normally. You'd have to make all the sections tile and connect seamlessly.

I was jus' messin' around. However, I don't think they needed to go as heavily in detail as far as pixels go as much as they did the characters. Had they toned it down to textures as it was in FFXI, we would have a much cheaper, yet much more beautiful game at the same time. sure, tone it up for the trees and grass and such so they look realistic, but but tone down the landscape a bit so you can do more with it. Kind of like Tera (and I'm not even a huge follower of Tera) does, they have high quality zones but they use textures. At least, from what I've heard.

Personally i don't care to have a "downloading data" screen during few seconds for having some REAL zones!

And not a giant zone in which i don't know exactly where i am.

It pretty much made doing anything that wasnt abyssea....well useless. ALl that gear @ 75 you spent years getting, now middle of the road. Now every person could pretty easly get some of the best gear without a fraction of the time or effort. To some people, that was great, but to me...even with my tiny amount of endgame gear.... felt it was stupid.

It pretty much made all those pieces of old endgame content (and there was LOTS of it) into wastes of time, it turned those zones you used to grind on or hunt NMs on, barren wastelands. The game hit easy mode for leveling and getting some of the great gear which turned off lots of people.

Watching those videos, I'm glad i was part of the FFXI History! feel bad for those who missed out on that game.

oh come on, where's the challange in that? Just stealth your way through like a ninja, or like in Promyvion.

You must remember though that they didn't intend to replace FFXI. Instead, they intended to cater to a whole new player base, and therefor double their subscription numbers. I think they wanted to make FFXIV like a single player game that is in a MMO world. I mean, that's what it is. That's my oppinion.

It would be seriously epic though if they just scrapped this entire world of Eorza, and made a whole new world, and made leveling around the idea of the party system.

Looking at these videos I see bad graphics, and amazing details. Looking at FFXIV, I see amazing graphics, and even some amazing details. I mean, watching myself craft looks pretty cool. But like everyone has said. It's copy pasted.

Moving things? Funny how simple things can make a game better.

But yeah, FFXIV is lacking life. Sadly, I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing any of those little things anytime soon. Heck, I would be happy if SE just dropped a dozen non-talking NPCs here and there and gave them some movement. Even that would make the cities feel a lot more alive.

Im going to say the same thing I said in that other thread this was posted in:

Most of that video isn't even part of the game. Most of what's in that video is someone standing in an instance while a moving screen goes off in the background. This is an MMO, you realise, not a blockbuster movie.

Also, I'm sure people could make scenic videos to rival that one using FFXIV's locations too.

Realise that I am not denying FFXIV could use some more improvements, I just don't want them to be in the form of moving-backgrounds while I am standing still (i.e., airship and boat instances). The game needs more interactive locations. Notice how you cannot actually explore any of those regions in the airship flyover.

It's not what FFXIV needs more of.

Some of the scenic locations, maybe FFXIV could use more of those.

I hear XI is still in service.

I'm still not sure why I like every single song in FF11, including San d'Orias March, but I continue to dislike every song in FF14. No idea why. It's 9 month old puzzle I have not figured out. And I've turned down all the music to like 3/100 volume as of like 6 months ago.

Lol, I was never really into classical music, but I literally baught the FFXI soundtrack when I was not playing. I LOVED it. Not becasue OMGOSH THIS IS GENIOUS classical, but becasue of the fond memmories that music was associated with :)

sorry but i didn't need a reason to go to any place in ffxi. Me and my boyfriend just loved to explore.
There are places in ffxi that had no reason. Like bearclaw pinnical. I went there cuz someone said it has a pretty sunset. So me and my b/f treked their.

Honestly there are area like this in ffxiv. Just go explore. You never need a reason to do so. Saying you do is just a bad excuse. I saw alot of stuff just out of curiousity.
Try a new fad in mmo called talking to people. you might actually find out places. What happen to the mmo community? no one plays mmo anymore they just care too much about content, and that lame carrot. No one talks in this game really only if your in a active guild. I need to near;y every server. Playing in every city. Getting a hello from people is like pulling teeth.

A community is what this game really needs.
