the new world to the west and some interesting connections

I find the idea of there being a 'new world' far to the west of Eorzea to be very interesting. As I've been reading lore, a couple of interesting things have caught my attention about it. First of all, it is said that millioncorn and popotos are native to the new world. More interesting, when reading about the origin of the Mamool Ja beastmen, there is info that says they came from their homeland far to the west to aid in construction after the calamity. Now, in FFXI, Mamool Ja exist and call the continent of Aradjiah in eastern Vana'Diel home. Millioncorn and popotos also exist there and are said to be native to those lands. Now, it's an interesting set of connections. What if the new world is Vana'Diel?

FFXIV's world is not Vana'diel, nor is it any other previous FF world (and the developers themselves have clarified this after being asked in the recent Live letter a similar theory about the game supposedly being in Ivalice - this is the post in question:

Therefore, FFXIV is set in it's own unique world with references to other FF games and worlds, but Hydaelyn is completely different and unique.

Domans, Doma castle, Cyan Final Fantasy 6?

The empire invaded, in final fantays 6 same thing.

Domans are looking like ninjas.. which is probably part of the next jobs/class in the next patch.

Doing the storyline, you see the next 3 jobs/classes that they are going to release.

I will bet gil that Yugiri is a Gria. That brings up some interesting implications for future races, if they're actually bringing some in from past FF games.

I like the idea of them reusing races from any previous FF. It takes something I thought was silly (reusing the Vana'diel races in a completely unconnected game), and turns it into something I think would be cool. It would continue with the whole tribute to the FF series theme that Yoshida started. It might be because of the new season of Game of Thones but "The Mother of Exiles" quest immediately made me think it was a reference to "The Mother of Dragons." :) Dragon ninjas ftw?

I agree that Yugiri will be a dragon-born race, but I think the FF14 Gria will be more of a snake-like race tying into the ninja theme as opposed to the FFT succubus look.
I think this revelation will tie into the hints that Ishgard will become an enemy faction and summon their own primal.
Ishgard will probably antagonize us and the Scions once they find out we're fraternizing with the dragon-born and spark the conflict between Ishgard and the Scions.
It may be wishful thinking, but I hope the Ishgardian summon is Alexander similar to the one in FF9 summoned to fight Bahamut.

Asi've posted in another thread, Yugiri might be a "mutant" Miqote sub race with a longer slender ears and a furless or mangy loner tail not to mention her slouch back Miqote like posture and a similar Miqote boobs or maybe not because those ears could be horns, her odd angled head shape which may be caused by her (presumed) slender long serpentine neck and we're talkin some reptilian or draconic race ere.
Quesion is WHY THE BLOODY HELL she covered her face and head with those hood? If she's really a reptilian or draconic race, trust me its goin to be REAL MESSY with those primitive superstitious dragon phobiac Ishgardians :p

I noticed while gathering and fishing a lot of things from the new west, love that we're basically Europe, and the west is "america/s. america" (potatoes, corn). Just adds a bit of the real world to my fantasy, that I seem to like for some reason.

She actually reveals why she's dressed like this when Alphinaud comes out and asks her about it - her answer seems to confirm what we already realized, she is not a member of any of the existing races, and her appearance would be considered so exotic as to be frightening, which for someone who is a refugee desperately seeking asylum in a foreign land, that's the last thing they need. So she covered herself up completely so as to better 'fit in' with Eorzean society. Of course this doesn't explain exactly what race she is (all the other Doman refugees seen all seem to be hyur), but no doubt the answer to that question will be revealed in due time. :)

Well the rest of her race was wiped out (or mostly anyway) in the destruction of Doma. Although there is a point where she is speaking with Minfilia where she says "But we do not know how many will answer my summons" so it seems like there may be more of her kind out there somewhere. And she is totally going to end up being the guild leader of the thief/ninja/whatever class.

I don't see this happening. not because I don't think they'll add those classes, but think of the implications it would be to write her in as a major NPC that new players can use to unlock the classes with and progress along their class or job story line with looooong before they encounter her in the main scenario. It would not make sense then to have her arrive with the boat-load of refugees as if she was brand new to Eorzea.

I mean, yes, the game does a fair share of time bubble shenanigans. All games do. But it would be a hard pill to swallow, unless they made it a level 50 unlock (unlikely) after this point in the main scenario (very VERY unlikely).

Why would it be unlikely that they lock new players out from starting THF/NIN until after they've progressed through the main story? FF11 did things like that and worked fine. Although, I imagine a Rogue class will be unlockable right away with a THF job crystal to advanced to and NIN will be unlocked after the completing up to the next patch's main story.

This is not FFXI, but I see your point. Having the job quests unlocked when you purchase a new expansion is one thing, but I have a feeling that having the jobs locked down until you actually progressed in the new area's storyline would not go over well with players. Plus, would this unlock the class at level 50, or level 1? These are things the devs have to consider.

I'm honestly not following your statement at all. My meaning was that to a fresh level 1 character in the game, with no in-game story progression, it makes no sense to meet her yet as a trainer because until the time passes and the character reaches level 50 to complete the main scenario up until the 2.2 content, to player characters and to NPCs in the world, Yugiri does not exist. She has yet to visit Eorzea. Does that make more sense?

I would say solution to that is just Yuigri will be just the normal npc of her own storyline and have a different guildmaster for whatever the new class/job they are going to throw out and tweak a bit of the dialogue in 2.2

Bangaa also have long snouts. Yugiri might be a Gria, but even that's a bit of a stretch. She's most likely something that we haven't seen to date.

maybe, when the xpac hits, they change a lot of this post game quests and incorporate it from the begining... or make the thief class avaible only after finishing the 2.3 content, where you help her to estabilish the dojo...

OR, they release the Thief class, since it already exist in the game, as a hidden dojo in limsa lominsa, with another job, and then after 2.2 quests or 2.3 quests you can do the quest to the ninja job

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet but I was strongly reminded of the race of rat people from ff9. I forget the name but it was freya's race. I mean the mask can be deceptive and make the face look flatter then it is, and it looks like yugiri has fur at the base of her tail.

Luckily for you, the Burmecian 'race' WAS 'Rat'.

People want to see bunny girls so hard that they find them in their breakfast cereal. To me, her tail looks feathered, though.

is somehow related to doma or referring to doma's use of horses? I remember in one of the cutscenes the Domans were very confused to why we ride chocobo's instead of Horses.

It is not related to Doma directly, per say, but Doma is a nation in the Far East, and the Heavensturn ambassadors also hail from the Far East. In all of the Far East, they seem to prefer horses over chocobos - perhaps they do not even have chocobos there.

It's heavily implied that they do not.

No, the smell just doesn't bother Eorzeans. They grew up with it, so they're used to everything smelling like an aviary.

If you recall, a lot of features were locked down until you progressed through the story. Mounts, retainers (you can't even sell stuff until you unlock it), duties, etc.

Locking new Classes or Jobs behind storyline quest progression seems like a bad idea to me, but who knows.

My theory is that the new classes/jobs will be in the expansion and the expansion will do something similar to what 2.0 did for 1.0; that is to say that when the expansion hits (3.0?), the world of Eorzea will be farther into the future chronologically and the world will slightly change to cope with a thriving large civilization. That'd also be the time where Revenant's Toll becomes a City-State and frontier-type areas are added, hopefully even Sharlayan, Ishgard and Ala Mhigo.

Adding in the new class behind story-mode completion is something I would be alright with up until said first expansion. (Rise of the Ascians, Chains of Bahamut, Treasures of Doma, Wings of the Twelve, Seekers of Sharlayan :-P )

If they introduce a new class > 1
If they introduce a new branch from an existing class into a job > 50

Personally I wouldn't mind working for the new jobs. It'll be something to do at least
