Q47: Could you shed some light on what the theme would be for the expansion pack?
A47: While I can’t really go into it at this stage, but one theme can be described as "a thousand year war."

The War of the Magi from Final fantasy 3/6 for the SNES. With our new NPC from Doma coming, do you think the expansion is closer than we think it is? Devs have stated (unable to find the post) they are already working on the expansion.
What are everyones thoughts on this? I am VERY excited to hear the news about the War of the Magi coming to Eorzea in some form. Final Fantasy 3(US) was one of my favorites --- I really hope a few iconic characters (or a full party of them) make their way to the game and play a more prominent role in the story. Perhaps fight along side us against a common enemy? Similar to what we see in our solo-class quests. ;)

If 1st expansion storyline is based on the War of the Magi then most likely the final battle/Final boss/Final part of Main Scenario will not be in Eorzea but in the Garlean Empire meaning we may get the Garlean Empire in 1st expansion.
Also Yoshi-P did state he will not release the Gunblade class/job until the Garlean Empire can be accessed since that is where the Gunblade class guild is located.
We also may get the FF14 version of Kefka. -

Wouldn't mind some Campaign mechanics from FFXI in there...long as it doesn't become empty. -

The War of the Magi was the war between the civilizations of Nym and Amdapor. Doma doesn't really have anything to do with them. Though Doma may have everything to do with the first expansion. We know the expansion will add additional classes/jobs so we made indeed travel to Doma and the island of Thavanair and maybe even Othard (1 of the major Continents with Aldenard and Islabard).

The War of the Magi, between Nym and Amdapor, lasted much less than one thousand years.
If they introduce newly revealed areas before the ones we have been waiting for since 2010: Sharlayan, Ala Mhigo and Ishgard (which by the way has been at war with dragons since approx. 6AE 500, or ~1000 years ago), I'm going to be really, really disappointed. -

I'm all for a FF XIV version of Kefka. He was the best FF villain because he didn't do what he did to control everything, or personal gain, or because mommy issues. He just wanted to watch the world burn, and did it before watching the world burn was cool.

The fact that he hinted at artwork for Sharlayan already done, leads me to believe we'll be traveling there at some point. Personally, I've waited a long time to see it.Quote:

Currently 2.1 has already set the stage for us to go to Sharlayan since the Circle of Knowing base was attacked and all contant has been lost in 2.1.

if all these places are release most likely we will follow a process of Ishgard area -> Sharlayan area -> Ala Mhigo -> Garlean Empire for the 1st expansion storyline. -

Unless I am remembering incorrectly, we've known that the first expansion was supposed to be about Ishgard since before ARR launched. Sharlayan is likely related to these. Ala Mhigo is empire business and will probably have to wait for the second expansion.Quote:

Ahh --- I had no idea the war between Ishgard and the dragons lasted 1000 years. I wonder if there will be a mix between this and FF3/6? Narshe was a mining town in the icy mountains --- It wouldn't be too out of place in Coerthas ;) One can only hope I suppose!

The story thus far certainly hasn't been a remake of FFVI, which had a theme about how humanity, by its ever increasing technology, was reaching a level of power and ability originally the soul domain of the gods. So far being in 2.X story Arc it covers the Warriors of Light battle with all the primals of Eorzea being that we will fight Leviathan soon and Ramuh in the future 2.X story later and Shiva will either be the final 2.X story or the first part of 1st expansion storyline as we work to convince Ishgard to finally join the City-State Alliance so Eorzea can be united and finally be strong enough to make the final push to kick Garlean Empire out of Eorzea.
We know so far that Ramuh will be part of the 2.X arc but Shiva is the last of Eorzea's Primal so her position in story Arc is a bit unknown for now because if we get Shiva as the final 2.X story then we will most likely see more of Ishgard's areas being released before 1st expansion. If so that would also provide a story reason why Ishgard will open gates to outsiders in 1st expansion story Arc being that the City-State Alliance and Scion's actions by defeating Shiva has convinced the Pope of Ishgard's religion (still hate the Ishgard's "We have religion and you don't so we are better than you" attitude) and Inquisition to invite the Hero or Heroine who defeated Shiva into Ishgard to congratulate him or her personally.
Also once all of Eorzea's Primals are finished we will be seeing new Primals located in the other Continents since FF14 Lore does state there are other Primals located in other Continents but that a bit too a head of FF14 story being 2nd expansion range. -
