What happened to all the old guild masters?

All the 2.0 guild masters are different people then their old 1.0 counterparts. So, what happened to the other guild masters? Did they retire? Were they killed by the calamity? It's always bothered me why the guild masters aren't the same. And what's more, the current ones with maybe the exception of Mylla, really don't even mention the old guild masters.

Where did they go?

Some guildmasters are still around.
The old Armorer guildmaster is still making boats, except he's no longer part of the guild itself, you meet him as part of the MSQ when you fight Siren the first time (and interestingly, his story in 1.0 had you make brass earplugs because you were dealing with rumors of a siren. GUESS WHAT HE STILL HAD WITH HIM).

The actual guildmaster of the old alchemist's guild is PROBABLY still the master of the actual medicine shop, but since the guild has effectively split (most guilds have actively split from their mother organizations) he haven't been mentioned.

The fisherman guildmaster is STILL the same, it's just that the one that does all the guildmaster job is his companion (a thing that was going in 1.0 as well)

Some guilds are left unexplained, yes, although Serendipity (goldsmith) mentions the one retired and the Miner guildmaster mentions she just recently was given the role as the old retired as well.

Actually, the armorer, while still the same, is the Miqote outside, where she's always been. The Smith master was Mimidoa (sp).

The Old Lancer and Archer masters are around, but they're not guild masters. You see Godwin from the Archers and you meet the Lancer master in his personal chambers during the Gridania story.

The Conjurer master is actually still where he's always been, the Padjal E-Sumi-Yan. I'm curious what happened to O-App-Pesi though... Also, the Botanist guild leader is still the same. The ones that have changed are:

Blacksmith (Still In Game)
Marauder
Gladiator
Lancer (Still in game)
Archer (Still in game)
Thaumaturge
Pugilist
Arcanist (You visited that guild at met the master in the 1.0 story, their disappearance is a major point of the ARC story now.)

Oh, O-App-Pesi is featured in the White Mage quests, it appears that he is busier than ever with his duty as a padjal that does not involves the Stillglade Fane.
It serves to remind some guilds were not so much guilds but other institutions offering training (Miner's guild was the Amajina & Sons, Archer's guild was the God's Quiver, Lancer's Guild was the Woodwailers), some had guildmaster shifts when the guilds became independant (even if, for say, the Miner's Guild is in a space rented from Amajina is pretty much has offer it's top miners to them to keep independant).

Lusavari has a good list, I think he's got it correct!

I'm still working my way through the 2.1 story as I only recently came back... but I've always wondered what happened to the Twin Lalafel miners and the Roegadyn Gladiator. There are 2 Hyur int he GLA story with the same sword as the 1.0 Ul'Dah story Roegadyn.

I think there are a pair of twinned Lalafells at the end of the current Miner's Guild story quest. They are members of " The Concern".

Awesome. Luckily my character I've been playing since I came back to the game is fairly far in the Miner Story. Guess I need to grind her out later.

Actually you're getting them mixed up. It's Lewin who ran the ARC's Guild in 1.0 whom you meet during the Gridanian ARR storyline (who has swank chambers in the ARC's Guild to boot) - and in 1.0 he actually did state he was actually the Guildmaster of the ARC's Guild (as well as leading the God's Quiver):

However, given the fact it was revealed much of the 1.0 starting city storylines were actually within the Echo, it's likely in reality by the 'present' day in 1.0 that was probably no longer the case.

O-App has returned to the forest for mediation as the padjal often do - its the story reason in 1.0 why Kan-E-Senna and her siblings weren't around at first - they were in the forest in communion with the elementals, and only returned due to the events leading up to the Calamity. And the original 1.0 Gridanian storyline started with E-Sumi as well returning to Gridania in similar circumstances (upon entering the city, an npc exclaimed "Brother E-Sumi is back from the wood". So they frequently have periods where they're out in the forest away from the city. In any event, a level 30ish quest involving Odin features O-App briefly (you speak to him in Quarrymill).

Yeah, Fufucha is still around, although her outfit is completely different to 1.0. But she's at least still Guildmistress of the BTNs Guild.

That's not surprising, given the whole guildhall itself has moved from the Astalica into the Coral Tower. One of the Yellowjackets there actually mentions why this happened (Limsa's government decided to expunge the MRD class of it's 'pirate roots' by giving it an air of legitimacy, hence moving it from a docked pirate ship into the HQ of the Knights of the Barracuda. So a change in Guildmaster would also be natural.

This was the big question mark for me. There is no explanation as to what happened to Yoyobina in 1.0. It's possible he might have retired, be forcibly removed from his position (by a member of the Syndicate annoyed with Raubahn perhaps?) or been killed in the Calamity (Ul'dah after all clearly took damage during Dalamud's fall), but nothing is stated in game as far as I can tell. Mylla doesn't mention her predecessor at all, which is a shame, as I liked him in 1.0.

I'm not sure, but from what I understood (I never levelled LNC in 1.0) Swethyna was the Guildmistress of the LNC Guild, but, I think I might be confusing 'leader of the Wood Wailers' with 'LNC Guildmaster'. Having said that, Lewin is likewise the leader of the God's Quiver still in ARR, yet my above quote he clearly stated himself as ARC Guildmaster as well, so I guess the two roles were complimentary, as least before the Calamity. In any event, I haven't seen Swethyna anywhere in ARR, other than this piece of official ARR artwork you can just see her standing next to Lewin fittingly on the far top left side of the image.

If I remember rightly, Geva is still around, yet she's no longer the actual Guildmistress - someone else has taken her place. Having said that, looking at my 1.0 screenshots, Geva was never actually directly stated as being 'Guildmistress', but just as a 'master' leatherworker. Given the other Guilds actually had their Guildmasters shown or referred to though in that storyline, it's likely she really was the LWR Guildmistress.

Again I'm not sure - in 1.0 the Gridanian story featured a CTR named Zezetuka, but again he was never directly mentioned as the actual Guildmaster, only that he was elderly and was an actual master of the craft. But again, 'master' and actual 'Guildmaster' are two totally different things. In any event, I don't ever remember seeing Beatin in the Guild in 1.0, not that I ever actually did take up woodworking.

Yeah. I've finished the MRD story nearly on 2 characters now. I really liked the 1.0 version of the story... I was disappointed it was shifted. It made sense to make the shift, but the ship was an interesting guild location. Another reason they mention is that the Aschilla has returned to active service and has to frequently raid Garlean ships.

Well, for what it is worth... The ship remains there, and in fact they HAVE been fully absorbed as privateers by Limsa. A small quest chain early in the game has you moving a few goods for them around town, all courier like, and you learn that they frequently perform... 'trade' with garlean ships.

I kind've think Mimidoa was BOTH ARM & BSM Guildmaster in v1. Their story was the same, that I know of, and I didn't get any BSM quests after I finished all the ARM ones in v1. I can't really say much for the rest, I don't remember doing much for the guilds in v1...

Yeah. That's right. The old Elezen captain is still there. Also, the Sanguine Sirens now run a bar, but the captain is depressed about it. But what happened to the Roegadyn you got your quests from and the one who was the disgraced guy where you were a 2 man crew, and the Megaboss for the Aschilla crew? The main thing about that line was you were never allowed to actually join, though in the Main Limsa story they were ironically all fighting over who got to keep you. The stories actually contradicted.

Incorrect. Geva has been guildmaster of the Fen-yll leatherworkers for at least fifteen years. The difference was that in 1.0 she was engaged through the main scenario, where as in 2.0 she is engaged through the class quests. She was still guildmaster the whole time.

It is the person assigned to you as your "mentor" in v1.0 that seems to have faded into irrevelancy.

I don't recall him being in the WHM quests, but I do recall seeing O-App-Pepsi during the Odin questline (started from Urianger, I believe it's called Primal Fear?)

The fisher guild didn't really get rid of the old guildmaster so much as he's even more useless than he was in 1.0. Sisipu is definitely Acting Guildmaster while Wawalago is off making drunken bets and ogling miqo'te.

Sisipu probably found the hidden ledger filled with Star-spangled subligar purchases and lost it, relegating Wawalago to... whatever it is he does.

Culinarian: I don't remember who the actual guildmaster is (probably the same guy) but the quest giver was the blonde "chick" that's simply an un-named NPC in the guild hall. You also see "her" in the cutscene where you see Merlwyb's speech during the diplomat quests around lv15. (if you want to know more about this story look for the youtube vids)

Leatherworker: I'm sure Catapult is correct in that Geva is the guildmaster.

In 1.0 you received quests from a Lalafell (the name escapes me) who is quite harsh towards you (much like Geva is) and is involved in a story about a group of miscreants wanting you to create counterfeit items for them to sell. You later learn about how she lost her friend (significant other?) to some Garlean technology that they didn't understand.

Carpenter: I don't think it was Beatin, but it was another Elezen. He had some kind of affliction that he needed to hide his face with a mask (it was never shown) and had to take some kind of medicine to keep it under control. Much like Beatin, he was also tasked with watching over the orphaned kids in Gridania, and the last Carpenter quest in 1.0 involved you taking them outside of town near a lake so they could see what it was like outside of town.

Ah, I see now. I was too lazy to clarify that with my ARR screenshots, so I just stupidly relied on my less-than-stellar memory, and hence failed. :p

I haven't levelled CPR either so a lot of that was guesswork on my part as well. Thanks for the clarification. :D

I'm pretty sure I've heard the old MRD guildmaster, Hyllfyr, mentioned quite a few times. I'm still bummed about the unexplained disappearance of Rostensthal. Especially since it was evident that he was indeed Sthalmann originally, the roegadyn that saves you in the opening Limsa scene. So many abandoned characters and storylines. A shame really.

Did you not do any of the 2.1 main story quests? Or Blacksmith quests? There are a good amount of previously-"abandoned" characters returning and we will probably be seeing that guy again in 2.2 since it is Limsa-focused.

I don't think this was mentioned yet in the thread, but Yayake is still in the game; she just serves as the receptionist instead of the guildmaster now, and even makes a reference to the old 1.0 quests where she'd shove a bunch of books on thaumaturgy in your face expecting you to read them. (although the Ossuary has since abolished that rule post-Calamity to be more welcoming to newcomers.)

That might also kind of explain to new players why she's featured in the level 30 BLM quest since those were pretty much copy/pasted from 1.0.

Mayhap it's confusion from the fact the city stories all too place in the past, but I thought the THM guild leader was the dark skinned Dunesfolk in the green silky cowl? I'm willing to accept your explanation due to the fact I only got as far as the level 30 THM quests on Lusavari in 1.0.

Lusavari, the GLA Hellsguard Roegadyn from Ul'dah 1.0 was named Greinfarr. You may discover his fate if you become a level 50 Blacksmith. You take a contract from another 1.0 (Miqo'te) NPC. I don't know what her role in 1.0 was, I don't remember her from Ul'dah.

F'lhaminn's fate may be discovered in patch 2.1 main scenario. Why Warburton was killed, his significance, and the significance of his daughter, Ascilla, are also revealed in the 2.1 main scenario. Who killed Niellefresne remains a mystery, one Yoshida has said he would like to return to eventually. I'm hopeful the other cities will get some closure to their stories in upcoming patches.

The Miqo'te was a former gladiator named the Hellsfire Phoenix (real name J'Moldva), who back in 1.0 threw a match against Greinfarr and became seriously injured to try and prevent the crowd from rioting. She retired from being a gladiator and moved to Gridania to become a wood wailer. She played a role in the 1.0 Gladiator and Lancer questlines.
