I'm surprised there's not already a thread (looked, if there is one I apologize) about this guy, but check out the Miqo'te male in the top of this image. Reddit seemed disinterested, but I am amazed the speculation machine isn't running wild about this.

To dispel the immediate knee-jerk reactions, keep in mind, GLA has not had a new dagger added to the game since 1.0 and an "end-game" style "unique" dagger like the one in this image has never been in the game. Additionally, GLA never holds their dagger backwards like this.

Also, for those who dismiss this as "just a bow," it's simply not, here's why:

Art is art. There's a lot of impossible/non-implemented armor and gear combinations in the concept and promotinal art posters.

Can you show me a case of this? I have looked at almost all of the concept art in the past, and it is always accurate as far as I have been able to tell, aside from unique storyline characters, which this miqo'te is obviously not. Occasionally unreleased armor or weapons will be shown off long before being released, but that makes this no less relevant.

This would be the first time a character obviously meant to be representative of a player is using a weapon type currently not in the game. Additionally, Thancred wields his daggers in this manner in this patch and is dual wielding for the first time.

If I were to be fussy, the artist probably doesn't know about the "no daggers for GLA for ages" and probably just looked a a bunch of FFXIV assets and said "that looks good!

Hence why that Monk is using the Avengers.

during beta, this image http://www.finalfantasy.net/wp-conte.../wallpaper.jpg (or one without the logo, i can't remember) was found a little before SE started the microsoft x ffxiv promotion

at this time, scholar wasn't mentioned once, so naturally some people said it was just arcanist or summoner... of course, it was later revealed that scholar would be in the game

edit: i'm not sure if this means we'll have a new job, but that is definitely not a bow, and it wouldn't make sense for it to be a gladiator, as there's already 2 tanks in the picture out of 8 classes/jobs

Most likely is partly because Yoshi-P has stated already that he has plans to add a Scout class later into FF14ARR which is the class that advance into Ninja and/or Thief.

However, this just a early art so it does not mean Scout will be released in 2.2 unless Scout is included in the upcoming 2.2 content trailer.

That is DRG's relic. It looks extremely like those spiky parts of the weapon.
Though the way it is held is a little weird.

Uh, I don't mean to be semantic, but, you do, know their already are daggers in the game? They've been in there since 1.0, as Gladiator's Arms (sure they might not be as long as depicted in that artwork, but they're definitely named as such). They do not outsource their concept art and just say "go wild," it's pretty obvious in this image that they're previewing the fact that you can now use glamours, and also some new armor is being previewed on the WAR and BLM. Their concept art has always been fairly accurate. They have never drawn a wildly inaccurate player character using a weapon that obviously does not exist, in a manner that is obviously not possible, wearing equipment that is obviously not meant for the class.

What in the seven hells is going on? Normally I see dozen page threads speculating about things with way less in-your-face evidence, the reaction here and on Reddit has been surreal. I'm not necessarily saying we're getting it this patch, but that is definitely a dagger wielding thief-like character featured in concept art depicting player characters. And there is supporting evidence that this will be coming in the not too far future based on Yoshida's past conversations about classes and on Thancred's appearance in this patch.

All of the gear in that PvP image exists or has been shown off, and can be worn in that combination. Point to you for the other image though, there are a few discrepancies there.

None on the level of an entirely non-existent class though. Most studios would not let something like that slide by, I guarantee you if it was not intentional this would have been caught. Especially when this very team has announced Scholar in the same way. Also, this image is less in the category of abstract promotional art, and more in the category of "showing off a feature" namely the Leviathan battle, these images are often the most accurate, notice the PvP image being accurate to team size and composition. Notice that in the image in question, the OP image, there are 8 players, 2 tanks, 2 healers and 4 dps. Some new gear is being shown off along with the glamour system.

Looking at the image, I see (Clockwise): Scholar, Dragoon, Paladin, White Mage, Monk, Warrior, Black Mage, ???. Only ones missing (to be the top left class) are Bard and Summoner.

This kind of proves her point though...just because they didn't add any new daggers doesn't mean squat...when is a Paladin's ultimate weapon a Dagger, especially in the Final Fantasy Series?

Now that I look at the "dagger" closer, It looks like one of the new two handed allagan weapons. At least the color scheme matches, that'd be my guess.

I thought it was the new MNK leviathan weapons from the pictures on the loadstone where the MNK is holding the new Levia weapon. Makes sense since Leviathan is in the painting.

I never ONCE mentioned them out-sourcing any art, Kazuya Takahashi and Akihiko Yoshida both WORK(ed) for Square Enix and did a fair bit of concept art for them. Not ONCE did I say they were out-sourcing. I challenged the fact that they might do a pick'n'mix on what looks best rather than "Is this best in slot", but obviously this is a moot point with the upcoming glamour system.

So unless you can explain why that thief is wearing Vanya Breeches of Healing and a pair of acolyte boots....

Glamours are class restricted. War/Magic cannot glamour each others armour/weapons. (IE: War cannot wear Magic. Magic cannot wear War)

Sorry but it's not a thief, or a bard, or a gladiator.

This is concept art, no-one in this image is holding their weapon the same as they do in-game, so it's perfectly acceptable to change it up.




Also, it's a female Miqo'te. As due to the skirt, and female version of the boots, and the feminine shape. And the breasts.

I don't think anyone is saying flat out "no" but who wants to give their hopes up if that's simply just an oversight/random art? Best to just assume the worst than hope for the best.

It's funny because I just pointed this out last night to my roomate when I saw it.
He is holding it quite weird for it to be a bow. And is holding it a lot like a hilt from a dagger.
Even though everyone I know was like "Thats the BRD" well the artists kinda did a bad job at
portraying that cause that is a damn dagger. -stares at the negative space in between the weapon and the shoulder-

Plus there are already 2 people with 2h Rod/Staff weapons, so WHM and BLM are already accounted for.

Gladiator > Thief?

The only class in game that uses daggers right now are gladiators.

This is inherently impossible due to the way Gladiator is structured as a class. So much hacky skill-changing would have to occur that it wouldn't be worth it to not just create a new class. Gladiator has no interesting DPS combos and all of its skills are focused on enmity generation and reducing incoming damage.

Doesn't have to be a Leviathan weapon. You're correct on that, I think it looks more like an allagan weapon or something.

As for the "poses" none of the weapon poses in this are correct to the game, so that's a moot point, for artistic freedom its easy to "turn it around" or hold it another way to make it look more interesting..

Looks like a woman to me, but those male male miqo'tes are rather feminine to begin with I suppose, just not to the point where they're wearing the female version of the armour pieces which I find very hard to believe the artists would get confused on and place on a male character.

But it's very clearly a caster here in this case, simply based on the gear. And in this particular case a healer.

(Whether we agree or disagree on the gear/shape of the person in question) they're wearing CASTER GEAR.

You can't really tell if the second Lala is using a staff or holding onto a railing to keep from falling off the platform. Its an artistic rendition of the fight so its not going to be 100% accurate. The pole that she's holding looks like a piece of railing so I wouldn't put it as she's holding a 2 handed rod or other White Mage weapon.

The Miqo'te does however have a set of breasts apparently. The way the curve goes towards the front and the action pose don't meet eye to eye. The clothes would be snug against her body defining her front more than normal. It could be a generic short hair that's being pushed back due to the action post to look like male hair.


That weapon is still totally dagger like though. Won't say it says new class though cause that's wishful thinking to say something pops up before Musketeer with it being all but actually available to be played.


Dragoon's weapon also magically disappears behind the Paladin for some odd reason. Based on the angle it should have reappeared near the Paladin's shoulder

. . . it does look like the monk Leviathan weapon. But there's already a mnk there . . . mysteries.

It'd be a monk wearing healing gear if the person we're pointing out is indeed a Thief or a Monk. /shrug.

This certainly qualifies as a mystery in my book. Now, a lot of people are saying "promo art is promo art and nothing more", and with any other game that might be true. However, thus far SE has shown a stalwart commitment to making sure that art is entirely game-accurate. So that "dagger" could absolutely be something. What, I don't know.

That's the BRD..9 jobs in the game currently, 9 ppl in the artwork...whether it looks like a bow or not..thats the BRD.

There are only 8 player characters depicted in the artwork, which is to be expected since this is 8 man content. And there is literally no reason that the character in question needs to be a bard. Neither mechanically or artistically. Not to mention it's simply impossible that what he's holding is a bow.

I'm pretty sure that thats a WHM.
Seeing as BLM's got a one-handed allagan weapon in the first coil, it would be safe to assume that WHM's will get a one-handed weapon this time, since BLM's will get a two-handed rod as it is depicted in the trailer.
And the way that miqo'te holds the weapon doesn't say much... I mean just look at the warrior, probably putting his shoulders out of joint o.O

This is a really interesting point. The other scions (Minfillia excluded, I believe, though I could be wrong) are all playable classes.

It's not a dagger and it's not a viera

Same argument we had on forums about the 2.0 art with a scholar in it. Naysayers downshot every possible way it was actually a scholar too, "That gear is Job A's, not some SCH gear!" It's always easier to say it isn't then hope it is so you don't get disappointed, but as the SCH thing had proven before, they do sneak new jobs into artwork beforehand just to rile us up. It could go either way, but honestly I'd prefer it's a sign of them adding a new job and expanding our little game a bit faster. Oh and male gear often has breastplates too, look at allagan, it has a curve on the breast even for men too, because not just women are vulnerable to taking blows to the chest ya know?

(Disclaimer: I know this widely known info won't stop you guys from arguing this to death. You keep being you forumers! Ram that head against a wall (topic) until your bleeding as usual)

I remain both apprehensive and skeptical, and I desire more hardcore evidence before taking a stance.

I /will/ say, SE has a very long history, stretching clear back in FFXI's salad days, of spoilering new content with artwork or small mentions in the plot. The concept this and Thancred could be a spoil at something is by no means a tinfoil hat theory. But it simply can't be verified /yet/.

yea Ramsey u are absolutely right. I counted 9 b/c I thought the PLDs legs belonged to what I thought was a SMN and the shield was a SMN book. so yea no reason for that to be a BRD, I thought I had all jobs accounted for. Still cant figure out what that Lala is to the right of the PLD is either.
