1) a. Not a word about subscription fee? Really?
2) Is it possible to add ARR as Steam game if you already have one?
1) (if #2 possible) b. Paying with steam wallet, please?

Was just about to post and ask about it.
I want my FFXIV up on steam!
giff steam codes for ffxiv pc owners please.
People have already emailed steam support (look on steam discussions) and asked. No to everything, basically. It's a new account, cannot be linked, is tied to steam, will be logged in with steam and cannot be logged in normally outside of steam (Steam substitutes the launcher I believe: you cannot buy the steam version and log in with retail details).
Square made one more stupidly implemented move :/
What a ****?
And I were thinking about adding it on steam and renewing sub. Not happening, it seems.
Why's it a stupid move. Having it paid through steam means less money for SE.
Why not, how does it affect how you play if it's through Steam or not? I'm genuinely curious why people MUST have every game through Steam. I can understand that if it's a normal game and it's much more convenient to auto patch it through Steam but with an MMO it auto patches any way.

Nope, there isn't. Imagine it from Steam's perspective. You would register a game you haven't bought through them, that made them no money, but use their infrastructure to download a 10GB client, presumably more than once. Contrary to popular belief, server space and traffic come at a price :)
Maybe i wanted to pay for it with money from selling *hats* in dota2? Why not?
Currently 4 days of gameplay per month (due to weekly lockout) is not worth the price.
Already proven incorrect. Or 10Gb of upload is worth full price?
And not far below the perfect reply: plenty of games can be bought elsewhere and registered on steam. The data cost for steam is understandable. But on top of that we could nto even buy the game and log in to our own accounts, it would be another one.
As for why? Personally so I can be part of the "communities". I'm happy downloading my updates etc. from the normal method, but unless steam has a recognition module made or something, I'll never be considered to be playing the same damn game as anyone playing the steam edition.
I would, quite happily accept the "add non-steam version of a game sold on steam and participate in the same communities" method by the way, as I'm sure most would, though I don't speak for everyone.
As if the Steam doesn't get any money for those games... It all depends on the deal between publisher and Steam.
As for log in to your own account... Why not?
From what I can see in that thread in general, the Steam version just runs the regular launcher. Still need an SE account to play.
If it does, good. Now I just need to wait for a 90% off sale. Lol. Cannot link it to my account though which is bull(and use it as another months play. That'd be a fair-ish deal. Buy a months play via steam. Bear in mind that buying the PS3 version would do exactly this.)
I'd rather steam step up and make its program recognise the alternate install though. Having to pay again for a game I own just to run it "officially" is a damn annoying idea. As for squenix 's stupid move: It should have been on steam from the start, we asked for it a lot during the beta.

I managed to ruin my quotes somehow, go me.
Important
The NA version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn™ will require a North American Square Enix Account to play.
A Square Enix Account without any previous Windows version of FFXIV registered, may receive 30 days of free game time.
Monthly subscription required to play.
You can use your current account. I am not sure where people are getting an ideas that they have to register a new account. Just wait till an expansion comes out and buy it on steam. Then you have your game on steam without spending extra cash.
Yeah they do but really just use a touch of common sense on these things. I own a few mmos that didn't come out on steam at release. I just buy the xpac on steam and use my current account. Never had an issue with being forced to make a new account.
The Steam community page is already full of cancer.
Ugh
You're not kidding, holy crap that community page is horrific to read.
Hehe, good try. But we have hundred of games were once added to steam, they gave us steam keys to register it.
So... If SE wanted to do it, they coud do it. Of course maybe with some kind of compensation to steam, but surely a very little one, contrary to what they want us to belief, server space and traffic come at a very low price.
And I'm not sure if Steam really woud want a compensation. I mean.. if you use steam to play those games, they have more chances of having you buy one from them, so letting you do it directly it's some kind of marketing action
Hello Steam users!
I just want to say welcome. Welcome, and, please, play tank. Tank is the best job in the game. Please play it.
Please.
Please?
The 30 days of time will not be added to your account that has an existing ffxiv account on it already.
So basically, if you want the free month you'd have to make a fresh new account. It won't be added to your existing one.
Oh dear lord the steam community.. They are actually making a petition.. to remove sub fees.. LOL..!!
FF15 for a pc release also please !, stop denying varying ways to make money SE
Any game you have installed on your pc can be used with steam. Just quickly google "Add a non-steam game to my library" and you will get instructions how.
2nd thing to notice. Buying the game from steam gets you a code to register with SE. Once doing so it don't matter if you ever login with steam or not. You can still download the installer from SE and use that version on your pc. Steam client download just makes it more convenient if you reload your pc much or ever. True if you elect to only use the Steam installed version than steam must be running. No big deal. I do it anyways.
3rd releasing it out for now at 14.99 is gonna help many more players come to the game and that is always good for business.
I really do not see the issues releasing this on steam present. How is this bad in anyway? Maybe some more understanding on how steam works might help but I am not gonna explain that right now. If you use steam than you can read. Rest is up to whoever thinks steam is bad to figure out.
Square never allowed 30 day free time to be added to a previous account. Look a ffxi as an example. 30 days is always to promote a new player with time to level and see if they like the game. If you are a player it's assumed you don't need anymore time to see if you like it or not.
If you buy a windows copy of the game and a ps3 you get 30 days for both versions. It's a total of 60 days free. If you have the ps3 version and have been thinking about buying a pc copy this is a good deal. If you have that windows version already again I say again just wait till an expansion comes out and buy it on steam.
So many entitled, complaining people. Add it as a non-steam game... is it really that big of a deal?
You really should watch this weeks Jimquisition.

There is a notice on this...

Oh my, why did they choose that horrible ad?
It gives away two of the most spoiler-y pieces of music in the game. Where's the mystery if they give away the final dungeon and the final battle theme? What the hell were they thinking?
I hate they dont give us old players a option to move are games on steam. Steam wont recognize anything i do or games i like connected to FFXIV because i dont own it (according to them)
I COULD proble buy a copy and just log in with my normal account information. But thats just wasting money and somehow i think they want that -_-
yes I want to know this to!
For those out there mad that you can not 'move' your retail copy of FFXIV:ARR to steam should know there is only ONE game I know of that allowed you to do this. Unreal Tournament 3.
a lot of the f2p games used the same existing acct prior to steam. like all of those nexon games, perfect world games, and hawken just to name a few.
since nexon games are free, they just redownload it and login using their existing acct. no problem. highly unlikely ffxiv will be a free download on steam.
when hawken went to steam, they emailed all their existing players a steam key to unlock it on steam for free (new steam players have to buy in beta now:().
its easier for them since they have a smaller player base being in beta. but thats an option. would SE put in work to send out millions of steam unlock keys across the world and regions? sounds troublesome. maybe setup a form online to request your steam key, so players who want it, may get it.
besides these theories the best option would just be to wait for the expansion as mentioned earlier

Keep on thinking that, I've converted many on this list from retail to steam.
I will pay for the convenience, regardless. However, why argue to begin with and give false info/assume.
Don't forget both EverQuests are also available on Steam, as is LotRO & DDO. I'm sure there are plenty of other MMOs that are available to be launched from the Steam client. I used to sub to EverQuest II a couple of years before the launcher was added to Steam, and I had an EQ trial account from way back when. So, should I ever get the itch to play those again I don't have to use SOE's terrible launcher. So them saying that it can't be done is a bit inaccurate on their part.
