Change the tin drum sound of when you select an action from the action bar

You guys know what I'm talking about? That mind-blowingly terrible tin-drum sound when you select 'attack' or some ability? What is this.. some kind of Jamaican tin drum band on the beach? I made a post about it in beta but of course that didn't get read. Since there's nothing else to discuss right now let's all rally together and get rid of this horrible sound effect! Press Like if you want this sound deleted, and in your comment make a suggestion about what it should be instead.

oh God.. tell me it isn't true. How could you not notice this most offensive of sounds? It stands out like a hooker in a Mario game in all of the pre-release videos of the battle system. Come on back down here once you attack something in the game for one fight.

I hate the selection sound too! It's actually more annoying to me than the error sound.

It should have been something more subtle, and sound more 'Final Fantasy'. Something more... mystical? It should have been more chimey than tinny.

for REAL! Thank you, Rowyne. Now what is the error sound? Is that when you try to do an action that is on cooldown or something? If that's the one, then please, let that get the axe too! It needs a big Marauder chop to the face!

Yup, that's it. Exhaust your stamina bar and start spamming 11111111 ... no wonder some want auto-attack, no more error sound spam! ;)

Ironically, like I said, it's not as annoying as the selection sound, since it's about half as loud and more subtle in nature. But the selection sound always felt like it was just put there as a placeholder. I thought it would change, eventually.

Doesn't really bother me. Honestly that seems like such a non issue that if SE did change it, we'd probably get about a hundred people complaining that they're only doing minor fixes. The kind that annoyed so many people in the earlier updates.

I know it may have not been the most popular Final Fantasy, but I personally think Final Fantasy 12 had some of the best sound effects for the UI and spell sound effects. Since the team sort of pulled off a FFIX and FFXII look I was sort of expecting these sounds. Oh well, a video below for FFXII sound effects and spells. :)

Oh. That sound. I disabled that together with the music. You can disable all the system sounds in one of the menus.

And as to Gramul's suggestion of letting these faults remain in the game just to preserve the game's image... well to that I say WTF?

I mean, let's put aside the fact that SE's image has been dragged through the mud so much recently that there is little "image" left to preserve, and let's instead turn our attention to the fact that SE has given us so many minor fixes already, we might as well capitalise on this and get one small fix that people will actually enjoy, for once in our lives.

I agree with you, I'm hoping they take some ideas from XII, like like the UI. I like how when you select an AOE spell it shows you the range, also the targeting system is pretty good. Also I hope Sakimoto-san composes a few tracks for XIV in the future.

I agree it is terrible. I usually play with sound off, but one day I turned it on and found my ears being assaulted. It sounds much more like a "cancel" sound than an accept one.

I was a music major for a while too, so you might be on to something there. I think she thought for a second this was one of my hidden sarcasm threads. lol. I read the OP again in that light and I can see why. If this sound wasn't so amazingly disturbing to my ears it would have been a brilliant troll thread. lol.

Assaulted, lol. That's the perfect analogy for FFXIV. You choose an action that's supposed to be affirming, and instead you get a "cancel" sound effect. lol.

I thought for a moment this was maybe a sarcastic jab at how some feel everyone is nitpicking and unnecessarily complaining about things.

But, dammit, this sound truly is horrible! And it seems that those of us with any sort of music background recognize it.

I would much prefer this! I'd take classic, in a pinch, but I think this actually fits the FFXIV style a little better. It's light and pleasant, and not like the dull thud we get now.

Heh, well I think a lot of what is going on right now is understandable frustration. I'm frustrated by a lot of it too, but I think the dev team is swamped so I don't see the point in contributing to half the stuff that is going on. This should be a quick fix though!

Yeah, it's really more of a ping. But it still sounds soft to me.

I completely agree ! I hope more people will support this. The current sound is terrible.
And FFXII confirmation sound is much better - in the vid. I think this would fit more to FFXIV than the current drum. And when I am talking about FFXII, I can say that battle system is much more playable than XIV.

Yah they deleted my post lol cuse its against rulez to edit files. They didn't email me a warning tho, ah well. I'm sure you saw it XD. Yeh I just took her account because she was a lot further in than me. She got a lil frustrated with the game on release.
