Great News!! Good job YoshiP.... keep doing what you're doing... we're here supporting a great game.
But but where's all the masses of angry people cancelling their subs in disgust in the game that these forums highly suggest???
im already voting with my wallet , bought a collectors edition just to support the game although i dont need it since i upgraded on mog station
I can't wait to hear what the doom and gloom people have to say about this.
I know a lot of people have certain issues with FFXIV, but don't all games have "issues" or things you may not like. However, havn't you guys noticed that this game is just jam packed with players? Every single place I go, no matter what the zone, high or low level, there are players playing.
WHAT111111
IM CANCELLING MY SUB BCUZ DIS GAME IS DOING 2 WEL
Here is what you'll hear from the haters:
*crickets*
Ill play.Im to lazy to do the math so im just going to go by the number stated in the comments.I wouldnt consider 45m a great success.Im sure Blizzard makes that much in a weekend and even swtor made 180m just from the cash shop
Should FFXIV shut down tomorrow because it's not making as much money as WoW? Does that mean no other game should exist because it's not "as successful" as WoW? All I care about is, Cost, Revenue, Profit.
FFXIV is making so much profit that it's effecting the ENTIRE company, not just recouping it's own cost of production. This is amazing news for FFXIV. This means we can expect quality content and resources to be poured into FFXIV. This is great news for those of us who love FFXIV.
Looking good, I spotted this article earlier. I'm glad to see things are looking up. This MMO isn't nearly as bad as all the haters say. It might not be for everyone. But which mmo is really. I'm excited to see where this game is heading in the future. When we get more and more content, jobs, areas, story, etc etc. I'm hoping for another 10 yrs of memories, friends, fun and excitement, like I experienced on FFXI(quit when 1.0 launched). Been in every sense 1.0, its great to see this turning into a success for SE. I just hope all this over working doesn't kill these miracle devs. You know they've been going nuts every sense 1.17 and so on.
Don't confuse complaints with "I hate the game I am cancelling my account."
For me at least, when I complain it's because I love the game and I want it to do even better. I think that can be said for quite a lot of people.
Either way, keep up the good work YoshiP
Eh, who cares.
The game is always doing better than what the gloom and doom people think.
The game is always doing worse than what the white knights think.
FF14 is an average mmo that is a knock off of other MMO's. The population will decline, stabilize and support the game. Who the F$@# cares.
So much this. I am one of the legacy players that is currently not happy with the game, but not going to knock it for what it is, a Final fantasy themed WoW clone and if I wanted to play that style of game, I'd still have my WoW subscription going. So I'm going to be an adult, and just not renew my sub when it's due and take the game off my pc till it has something that interests me, which might be six or more months down the road. I have other games I can play and I should play, as well as a few other interesting MMOs coming up to keep my interest.
Considering the situation Square Enix was in, that doesn't really mean much, it just means they finally have a product that actually made a solid income - You know, with all the hate for FFXIII and their mobile games and all.
Their hope is that XIV pretty much keeps them afloat and fund other projects like XI did for so lon.
This forum is a very small percentage of the player base. Honestly look in game then look in here. I swear they're playing something else.
Only 1.5 Millions ps3/pc combinated sales? i was hoping 4 - 5 millions as minimum is a Final Fantasy game.
Final Fantasy VII (10 million, includes Final Fantasy VII International)
Final Fantasy VIII (8.15 million till 31 march 2003)
Final Fantasy X (8.05 million)
Final Fantasy XIII (6.71 million, Includes ps3&360 versions)
Final Fantasy XII (5.6 million approximately: 2.4 million in Japan, 1.7 million in US, 1.1 million in Europe; 5.2 million shipped)
Final Fantasy IX (2.86 million in Japan; 5.08 million shipped)
After the Low Sales in FFXI, i was thinking Square enix learned Something in 10 years of experiencie. But It seems square enix lacks of knowledge in the MMRPG department.
1.5 Millions is a Great number for a "Average random MMRPG in the market". But For a Final Fantasy Game the sales are low
SE has said FFXI was the highest grossing FF in history. With the other games, you pay for box and done. For MMORPG, you pay for box, expansions and monthly sub. It's a completely different model. I would not be surprised if in 10 years FFXIV is the highest grossing and profitable FF in history.
People don't really know what a "Clone" is, do they.
gj se!! now time to invest in some servers!
FFXI supported the company for over a decade and was the most profitable Final Fantasy for a long time so it's no surprise, sub based MMOs as WoW cloney as this one is almost always attract enough players to turn a profit, especially when your main single player franchise has been in the slumps churning out mediocre games and then some with a protagonist no one really likes.
FF XIV is a very compelling game. Although there are many things which could be improved, this is because an MMORPG tries to accomplish so much. The amount of things it does well outnumbers the things which are lacking and that's why we play.
As mentioned, FFXI was anything but 'low sales', it bankrolled the company for quite some time.
Can't stress this enough. If ARR hadn't been profitable at launch I suspect the bean counters back at SE HQ would have called in time on the 3 month content patch cycle rather swiftly or cut back on the staffing at the very least. As is with it turning over more money than expected and with several nice little cash cows yet to be offered up to the plate (PS4 release, ARR Soundtrack, Mog station Fantasia etc), it's fantastic news for us as I suspect YoshiP will have little trouble getting all the resources and manpower he needs for the content team.

I am one of the legacy players that is currently not happy with the game
I'm just going to clip this from a previous post because I seen many legacy players state this, especially when they bring up WoW Clone (Fun fact: Blizzard got to where they are today by taking the best aspects of other games/artwork/etc and implementing them to their games) but they are missing the point...
FFXIV was completely bombing in the legacy model, which is why we are in the ARR period. I tried to play it at launch and it was completely clunky and 'meh'. Yes, I know it vastly improved a year later to where people accepted legacy and yes, it was different.
HOWEVER, it was still going no where in terms of what they want it. The player community spoke, they listened, and implemented things and we got what we have now which a lot more players appreciated.
Does it suck this is how the market works now? Of course it does. I kinda wish I gave legacy a second chance before it went down, but I didn't. But the truth is in the numbers, SE was bombing for the longest time and I was among those who was playing a game of "How long until SE goes bankrupt like it nearly did with Spirits Within?" and I was expecting that ARR would be a flop, but I was actually happy with the turned product.
Don't get me wrong, it can be MUCH better still as any game and I hope they touch it up and go back on what they said on crafting always being below that of dungeons and the like- I hope they atually start making crafts better and harder, and hope we get more dungeons with interesting mechanics and gimicks, and I am hoping for the best.
However, XIV was failing under legacy is what I'm getting at, and it would be dead or on the backburner now at the very least if it wasn't for ARR.
FFXI was the game that maintained SE for some time :P , and it has been the most profitable FF but makes sense ,FFXI u payed the box , month and expansions :P
FFI to FFXIII > 60$....and thats it :D
FFXI? dont want to think about it lol.....but more than 1200$ easy
FFXIV .....time will tell :D
I've always loved the Final Fantasy series and it feels good that myself, and all of you, are contributing to keeping the series going in our own little way :)
The thing is when WoW started out they took elements from other MMOs of the time and improved upon them, they smoothed out the gaming experience to me more casual friendly and increase accessibility to more people, this game doesn't do that. It pretty much takes things other mmos have done and just gives them a new coat of paint and even then in some situations it makes them worse.
Fates are a good example of this, they're basically the bastard child of Rifts rift system and the events from GW2, whose name eludes me at the moment. Right now there is no punishment for letting a fate fail aside from certain chains ending prematurely, in Rift if you didn't stop certain fates, the mobs could possibly take over a small quest hub, making it unusable till someone cleaned it out. Now the GW2 side of things, their random events scaled based on those actively participating in the event, not this crap about the next spawn being scaled based on who participated in the one previous. Even WoW has been declining with lil bumps based on patches and expansions, and when the big daddy of the modern hotkey mmo is in decline, now is not the time to copy it, its time to be innovative and try to do something better.
I'm also going to agree that ARR resuscitated the game, but for how long? People are going to get bored of this style of MMO and the game can tread water for only so long.
Cool, hopefully this surpasses FFVII so we can get that remake going. Lol.
Technically XI already has, VII will never be remade thankfully lol, it was already an unfinished mess in the first place. There's a reason they're remaking every FF but the ones people actually want, i.e proper VI remake, proper V remake, IX remake (or just a damn PC port already) and I suppose VII.
I started playing at 1.0 and fell in love, because of the heavy crafting focus. The economy going with that was a whole other we have to date. But the masses didn't like it. OK
I too play ARR and I like it with some exceptions. The state of crafting for example is lackluster , and be aware that the system is absolutly acceptable to date. It is tuned for the masses and i can make that compromiss. But I can't stand that there obviousily is nothing planed for the future. Furniture and fluff won't do for me. I want to have a competable crafting for the 8 classe we have ingame.
With those arguments in mind I reduced my sub from 3 month plan and 8 chars per server to 1 month and 1 char.
If they wanted to make a profit remake 7 and 8 with next gen graphics.
