Anyone know or have read any hints?
I think that's what they said, I need to check the live letter again though
I think some people have been misquoting the live letter. I think it was more or less implied that crafting will be able to produce certain vanity gears especially for glamour, but there's been nothing to imply you'd actually need crafting to work with the system itself. Not yet, anyway.
I believe the Crafters can make the clothing and Armor for the Glamour system. I don't know if exclusively or if we can get some in shops/dungeon drops, but it was said that Crafting played a pivotal role in Glamour. So much so that as soon as the Q&A appeared after the live production there was a thread that complained about it.
I really wish Yoshi-P had been less vague, and/or the translation had expanded on the answer to the Q&A because I think it has more people skeptical than excited, if the forums are any indicator.
They probably use crafts to make a consumable that is used in the vanity system.
The vanity "prisms" will work like melding materia, you will need the proper crafting profession or someone with the profession to do it for you. Will work exactly as melding is in game right now.
It would be nice to have something to craft again. I was intially excited for PVP gear and furniture - that... didn't really pan out.
Anyone think that Using the Glamour system will destroy the said Item you want something to look like? I mean I don't want to lose items over it.
I'm hoping the "prisms" are something that crafters can make and sell. They would be equipped into a new character "slot" (and held in a new armoury tab specifically for the prisms) and can hold the images of a particular outfit you want. Essentially, modular wardrobe tabs.
But that would make the vanity system actually worthwhile, so I somehow doubt Squee will implement it like that.
Would be nice if you could equip cross-class clothing as well.
I want to tank in a robe!
Not at all what many were hoping for. IF it would help the crafters be relevant of course THAT would be awesome, but I have severe doubts it will.
Why not just a simple extra slot and various 'costume' sets available? Why do we have to, HAVE to get yet another time-sink? We'd just like some reasonable number of options to look DIFFERENT than the other 99 people in every area we go to. Not to mention the people who enjoy r-p. Simple vanity gear requests; another ignore.
Is that based on you thinking that anyone that wants to use vanity gear also have to have a craft levelled?
There's no way that's going to happen.
Crafters will be relevant to make vanity gear, and MAY be required to apply them to equipment, like melds, but it's more likely to be like a dye.
That way crafters stay relevant as suppliers of vanity gear, and you don't need a craft class levelled just to be able to use it.
My hope is that Glamour will include all those nifty clothes you see on NPCs EVERYWHERE. I'm not talking about the RSE smallclothes, though being able to 'wear' Highlander RSE smallclothes will probably be high on alot of mi'qote lists. I mean those fancy outfits in Ul'dah, the wench dresses you see here and there, so on, so forth.
I would think it's going to be similar to materia melding, with the item you want the stats from acting like a materia being melded to the other item.
They should have just given us a vanity tab that mimics the normal tab (the viewable pieces). That way, if we get a new item we like, it's as simple as throwing it into the vanity slot. If I have to shout for a crafter every time I get a new piece of armor I want to "glamour", I won't bother with the system at all.
They've already said they're not going to do vanity slots on a separate tab. To be honest if you won't use the system simply because it requires some kind of social interaction to use it then I'd guess you were never really interested in it to begin with. I assume you never get materia melds either?
Personally I hope it does require DoH in some form as it should serve to boost the economy a bit. I fail to see how it's any different to pay another player to do it compared to paying an NPC to do it for you.
The only thing I ever get melded are the weapons for the Relic quest (And I'll only use the FC or just buy premelded weapons if they're available). And it's not about being "social". I'm social in this game all the time, so you can take out that straw man. The fact is, I only have a few hours to play per day (if that) and I don't want to waste time shouting and waiting for a meld or for glamours. Especially when you're trying to glamour 20+ items for all of your different jobs. Melds aren't bad, as they're only truly required for your relic, but forcing us to shout and wait for a crafter to glamour tons of pieces for us would take all the fun out of the new vanity system.
If crafting is involved, they need to just make it so a crafted item is required for you to do the glamour yourself (or through an NPC). That way, crafters could feel useful without forcing everyone else to jump through annoying hoops.
The problem is that crafters have been wanting to feel useful since the beginning and just melding or making one or two things isn't useful enough. Furnishings is a start but it just doesn't compare to 1.0 where they were the only way to make gear 100% repaired. This is a good step to making them more useful than just cramming small gems into equipment or making that rare piece of gear.
In a game that allows you to do everything on a single character, crafting is useful due to the simple fact that you can do everything for all of your classes/jobs yourself. You can make your own armor, weapons, food, melds, repairs, etc. Plus, it's another way to help out your friends and FC. Crafting is plenty useful without ruining the vanity system by forcing players to shout and beg for another player to glamour all 20+ of the items they wish to change.
Besides that, with the sheer quantity of items that people will be glamouring, there's no way it could work like melds. It will either be too pricey for most people to use... "I'll Glamour those 20 items for 10K each!", or it will be so cheap that it won't be worth your time. Meaning it will be hard to even get someone to stop what they're doing to come glamour for you.
How long does it take to find a crafter on your server?
When I shout for one, I normally get 4-5 tells within 30 seconds, and have to tell people they're out of luck for the job. And melding takes only a few seconds assuming you have everything you need on you.
This is also assuming I don't go bug one my LS's omnicrafters for things...
Greetings, everyone!
All the details you could wish for related to the Glamour (tentative name) system will be revealed on Lodestone in the near future. :)
Is that Near Future(tm) or real near future?
I do hope ya'll have been listening to player feedback regarding vanity systems... :\
I just hope that we can use seasonal/event gear with all types of armors without limitations.
That would be a good perk for the seasonal/event gears.
