Dont forget stats!!!

I can't wait until the formulae are redone to make all stats function as intended
There are just so many stats that factor into everything....

Say a Plains footpad hits you with Luminous Spire... Its Astral damage....
So thats Fire, Wind and lightning

First and foremost It would be the Footpads Piety vs your own piety to decide whether it will be resisted

Then its the Footpads Int vs your Mind

followed by the footpads Magic Potency vs your magic defense

Then The game looks at each elemental attribute that applies to said spell....
(There is also some confusion with this one.... Some people say high fire element helps take less damage from fire spells... I've heard others say High Wind element helps defend against fire spells since wind beats fire...)
So there are at least 3 elemental attributes from the footpad vs either 3 elements of yours... OR the Elemental Resistances value (Which is given as one number as opposed to individual resistances for each element) or possibly even a formula involving both Elemental Attributes AND your elemental resistances

Shell's Magic damage modifier is applied, if applicable

No one knows where the Delta(Rank) modifier exists in the formula.. if not in several places, possibly even capping other values

Then after all of this is done, The damage is subtracted from your HP as determined by your vitality stat

Any shock spikes or Punishing barbs counter damage is calculated (as another set of calculations)

Its easy to see how a formula involving this many factors and variables can become too complex and contain unbalanced values....

Keep in mind, an RPG (MMO or otherwise) needs a very in depth damage formula, as that is the cornerstone of your game
But It will be nice when all of these values have a more clear meaning

Would luck stat effect every dice roll giving it a weighted system?

Speaking of stats, I hope they haven't forgotten about cooking and the bonus effects that food should give. Food is still pretty useless and culinarian is an unpopular craft to rank up because it never makes profits or anything which can be deemed useful.

yeah I agree it will be nice when we can start to quantify the value of those stats and when they are all usefull in some ways.

Just want to point out for your fire element exemple, higher water would be more appropriate than wind:

Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water > Fire > Ice > Wind
read ">" like "beats"

So Fire is what you use against Ice, Wind you use against Ice, not fire. Water would beat fire. So if you want to resist fire more you need a great Water affinity (in your exemple). I myself am not sure if having more fire affinity or water affinity would be more beneficial as it stands now.

I find it weird that they have 2 different circles, one light one dark I would assume but still...

makes sense, a big wall of ice obstruct the gust, no?

Stats, attributes, calculation, and revision of abilities. THIS to me is the most exciting part of the coming update. Yeah dungeons and more content + auto attack are amazing, but looking back at how precise it all was calculated in FFXI, that is what I want. can't wait

Its weird that its not light and dark either....
Fire, Wind and Lightning are Astral.. and it makes sense, they are all "Sky" based elements

Earth, Ice and Water are the Umbral elements and they seem more terrestrial based

But the elemental hierarchy isn't split like that, it's weird

Ice > Wind makes sense. Wind is movement, ice (well, cold) slows down movement. The ones that don't make sense to me are Wind > Fire (sure, a candle might be extinguished by a gust of wind but large fires are actually spread by the wind) and, to a lesser extent, Water > Earth (wind has a much larger claim on erosion than water does; moisture in soil actually helps to prevent erosion, and if you're thinking in big terms only like rivers carving out a canyon then why not give erosion to ice because glaciers have done more than rivers ever will). Still makes little sense that Water doesn't beat Fire, and electricity technically doesn't boil water.

I apologize in advance for the sheer amount of trolling this next sentence is going to get, but... elements made more sense in FFXI than they do in FFXIV.

not really trolling, it's a pretty much well founded opinion. I too think the FFXI weakness cycle of elements was making a lot more sense, and is also more complete than 2 seperate cycles that does not cross one another.

I will add to that and say Elements made more sense in pretty much every other FF game than this... but yea, it really is just a minor thing....

I would have liked more complexity... Where there isn't a wheel... but unique relationships between all of them... Like earth being strong against lightning AND fire... but super weak against wind, water and Ice... and taking normal damage from earth based attacks...

I want more stats to skill up on, this game is very barren in the Stat Department. I want to be able to skill up on things like Block, Evasion, Parry, Elemental Magic, Healing Magic, Enfeebling Magic and so on. If my Healing magic is high then I want my Cures to Cure for more, if my Block is high I have more chance of Blocking attacks and negating DMG, If my Elemental Magic is high I want my Elemental nukes to land for more.

I want more stats to level up and give me a sense of achievement when I get those extra 10 levels on Parry and I can see a difference in the rate at which it procs.

I'll second that. Not for the "oh great more stuff to grind and skill up" but because I'd like to be able to focus on specific aspects of my character depending on how I play.

Unfortunately, the 'physical' mechanics seem a little mundane compared to the 'magic' mechanics (or at least less expanded upon) :(
