Dev's Why are Gear swaps not in the game in 11 it was fun making your character better by switching in gear to suit the monster please answer
Gear swapping was one thing I disliked about FFXI, personally. To each their own, I suppose.
As much as I loved SpellCast (which I of course never used because that's a third-party plugin) and having intricate macros setting optimal gear for every spell, every ability, every situation... That is one part of FFXI that I hope FFXIV never emulates.
Switching weapons in combat I accept and am all for. Biggest reason I dislike the Armory system: you can't switch to a knife without becoming an entirely different person.
Changing your pants several times throughout a fight is ridiculous.
I've heard about this and always thought it sounded really stupid.
"Hold on guess I need to get completely undressed and then put on this new outfit to cast one spell!"
I certainly hope to never see it in this game, it sounds pretty pointless and unnecessary not to mention plain bad game design.
No thanks Macroing gear made XI the worst place for massive Eletists to thrive.
Yes. That's one of the veeeeery few things from 11 I am actually happy they did not copy.
I never want to see gear swapping in another MMO game ever.
It's just ridiculous that you need at least 2+ different gear pieces per slot just to maximize your usefulness, add more and also put in day/weather conditions for any caster classes.
Keep it simple, SE. You can combine gear to tailor to what you want to put your strengths to, but keep away from the damn situational need to swap everything in battle on the go.
This is not Final Fantasy 11.
If you want gear swaps, go back to that game.
This is Final Fantasy 14.
God, I hate these FF11 fans trying to turn FF14 into another FF11.
Get out, you idiots. Just get out.
you don't change your weapon for ws in ffxi ( changing weapon = 0% tp )
only mage change their weapon for spell
in ffxi you have full dex/haste armor ( more hit = more tp )
than use macro to change your armor to full str for ws ( more powerful )
( yeah it was pain for the first time )
gear swapping was necessary but i didnt like that part of ffxi tbh. I think its better the way it is and so far... gear swap in party? with this slow system and lag? you will have the proper gear equipped 1 min AFTER the mob is dead....
They need to improve the system a lot to make the normal gear swap/class FAST not just faster.
They need to save the abilities on the action bar for each class the way people set it up. So we don't have to use macros for it. (only if we feel like so we have perhaps different macros for other camps, mobs or situations - but should be an option only)
Also the stats need to be saved to really feel the freedom of a job system. Resetting the stats slowly isnt fun at all.
Its a stupid timesink.
so far every change, if gear or ability takes ages and is no fun and unnecessary. Its so sad that its not fixed by now.
The game encourages (if not even forces) people to play many different jobs/classe BUT at the same time changing them is so slow, with a lot of useless interactions...
more of these slow actions? <<no thanks>>
This is now a FF11 vs FF14 thread... again.
I had to make macro to switch my awesome subligar only gear, to fighting, sorcerer, gatherer gear because people couldn't focus... At least with macro I can go back to subligar only mode after every battle, makes me happy.
I am against this. Hated gear swaps in XI, do not want them in XIV. Leave that specific feature out.
No way..! It was one of the most terrible things to ever be in a MMORPG.. -.-
Please don't do this...
No thanks. I love FFXI but I don't want half my macros and all of my inventory space devoted to gear swapping.
For me in 11 gear swaping was a strugle because i had a very laggy pc, so fancy new pc for this game and gear/job swapping is still very slow because your macro only equips one item at a time (i'm sure this could be fixed with a little code'ng).
The reason gear switching worked in 11 is because the additional stats that came from equiping a specific staff for a specific spell meant something, they had a impact on the fight. Drk staff & sleep had a much greater chance of sleeping a mob and your party living than Light staff & sleep.
The reson it would make no difference in 14 at the momment is because stats dont have such an impact on the outcome of a spell. Also it is currently not possible to equip all elemental spell ( unless you wish to forgo other useful spells) due to the point/action bar restriction so you are able to limit one set of gear for your specialisation.
When we finaly have acess to all our spells will it not be beneficial to draw additional stats from our gear to enhance the spell we are casting at that time?
They should just make all the gears have plain stats so people wouldn't freak out about them. What really needs to matter is players skill not player equipment. For magic equipments, they should just give a tiny boost to int, wis, etc.. and vice versa for melee gears. I vote they just make gears for player fashion which should encourage more customizations.
No thanks. My inventory is full enough as it is. I don't need more gear to carry around with me.
I think you're exaggerating just a little. I only had 99 pieces of situational gear and never got called gimp. But maybe you just ran with a bad crowd.
In any case... inventory space is too limited as it is. I don't mind a game where you build up certain sets, like a fire resist set or a m.acc set vs a m.atk set, but once I leave my moghouse to do an event I shouldn't have to change my gear until I'm done with the event.
As much as I loved FFXI, and I miss my RDM something rotten sometimes, I don't want to see the return of gear swapping like that in FFXIV.
Gear swapping in FFXI was something you had to get used to, but not really something you necessarily enjoyed doing. On my RDM I seem to remember having maybe 8 rows of macros (which was probably not that many compared to "elitist" players) all with gear swaps for each spell and due to macro books and restriction of the amount of lines within a macro, as we have now, each gear swap macro was like 3 complete accept button presses to fully deck out in a specific set. No game should make players do that- that's just torture! My inventory was always full and as for changing jobs.... well all the fun of swapping items over into storage and out again could take ages :/
I don't mind minor swaps- earrings, rings and weapon maybe... but surely the best game design would be to make your point attributes actually work on each class (and have specific point allotments for each class individually so that if I want to play a melee I don't have to spend the next 6 hours moving points about), and letting players rely on their skill in using the correct spells/abilities and strategy to affect their performance... not how many over-complicated macros and pieces of gear they can carry around.
I liked gear swap in ff11.
Yes, please no gear swap macros! Inventory and macro management becomes a nightmare when you have situational pieces of gear for every spell/ability. Plus watching everyone in your party blink in and out all the time was ridiculous, not to mention a PITA for healers/buffers trying to target you.
They need to add back gear swapping without it all SE can do every expansion is replace all the old gear. Meaning every expansion everything will negated before it.
Allowing different gear sets for different attributes allows SE to continually add in good gear with each expansion without completely negating the rest.
And there is nothing wrong with elitest, I see nothing wrong with wanting to work on getting the best set of gear for your job. The issue is not elitest it is the asses that require you to have that setup.
If they make it where you cannot switch gear you have a max of 19 possible gears to get for 1 class per expansion(the best gear for the class, no swaps there will be 1 set of endgame armor), they allow gear swaps you can have upwards of 76 things to get. Allowing the game to basically have 4xs the life to it.
No please, one of the things i love about XIV over XI is no gear swaping. I want to be able to look at my character while fighting. Not seeing him blink every time i use a skill.
Adding new gear does not necessarily mean all old gear is obsolete. It's called a sidegrade: new options, new builds, but not better or worse than the original. When done right, it means you pick your gear towards the build you want to work with.
If you want there to be value in acquiring different gear, make challenges that require different approaches. Gear swapping doesn't create diversity: everything gets funneled into a single build, a single "set of endgame armor" that just happens to have 60 pieces of gear in it depending on the macro.
Also, it's spelled "elitist."
This topic already came up and the majority were against it then and will be now. Gear macros no thanks.
