I'm afraid Turns 6-9 won't be enough to last for 3 months.

With a good group, turns 1-5 can be farmed in 1-2 hours. I highly doubt they're drastically increasing the length of new turns, so when people start putting them on farm, it will be another hour or two of playtime. With the ridiculous nerf coming to current content, people will forget about current raids (CT & Coil), especially those who have been around since launch.

In other MMO's, they usually have at least 4-5 hours of raid playtime even on farm. With the way FFXIV is headed, seems like we will always be stuck with an hour of content for hardcore raiders. I find this very disappointing. They should add at least 2 raids per patch. Seems like they're just too focused on adding more quests, more quests, more quests and recycled primals. They advertised the game as "the real game begins at endgame". Well, then how about more focus on raids if you want to say that?

Most players get done with quests in a day and skip cutscenes. They simply don't care about them. New quests are more suited for an expansion when the level cap increases and you get to explore new worlds. Stop giving us 50 more quests in current zones. If they strictly focus their development on raids, that will keep players around longer. They make their situation even worse by handing out allagan tomestone currency like free candies. i90 currency obtainable from i50 dungeons? Please... don't... ever.. do.. that.. again!

You're asking for less story and more battle on a Final Fantasy game.
Maybe WoW would be more of your liking.

Coil 6-9 will most likely be as hard as Coil 1-5 pre-nerf patch. If you are talking about the hardcore's I'd say it will last them 2 months-ish If they can get it on farm status within a month without SE having to nerf them.

unless 6-9 is much, much more difficult than twintania, and exponentially more difficult than her at turn 9

more like 6 months seeing how most people don't care about crystal tower which is what 2.3 going to be about. Unless they change there mind and release for coil turn in that patch.

ITs going to be so hard even the best players in the world will fail .

For example it could be like one area you fight Ultima Titan Garuda and Ifrit extreme mode versions all at once . See how fast you beat that

wouldn't that be...ultima extreme...where instead of losing the primals as the fight goes on, he starts using more and more of their attacks in combination with his own abilities (aetheric boom, freefire, lazers, diffractive laser).

also you are forced to deal with the infernal nail mechanic, the spiny plume mechanic, and titan's heart.

stupidly high HP does not equate to difficulty.

It's going to take months before people have the new turns down to farm status. The new 'tomestones' will likely be restricted, as myth was, to force players to gear up slowly... thus making the newer turns more difficult than if you just wait and get the best gear.

Example: I remember when my group first tackled Turn 1 way back in the day. We had to obey all of the mechanics, feed slimes to Caduceus several times... Now with all our great gear, we feed one slime before split and ignore all other mechanics. We can burn him down before our tanks come even close to being in serious trouble. Similarly, I remember when meeting the Turn 4 dps check was actually hard, and one dps messing up a rotation meant we would fail.

Myth gear and coil gear lockouts put a 'cap' on how fast you could progress, and how 'easy' something is to farm. Granted, any skilled group will be able to get something down on farm status with mediocre gear... but a LOT of players will be hitting a wall for a very long time until they learn the mechanics and can handle it with ease.

I'm looking forward to the new Leviathan battle, dungeons, and Coil Turns 6-9. Maybe we'll see a new level to CT (although it hasn't been mentioned?). I remember people complaining that 2.1 would not introduce enough, but I was more than content with the amount of content added. The people who play more than others won't be, but the majority will be happy.

I doubt you are going to walk in and one shot everything. that might be the case, but assuming the new turns are tightly balanced it's going to take a bit to kill them before they go on farm mode.

Sorry, but I don't really want 4-5 hours of playtime even with the content on farm. If SE wants to give us new dungeons and raids every patch then so be it and support them! Let them give it to us a little bit at a time. 3 months is plenty of time to get geared up and learn the 4 turns for most people. It's the ones that have to be server firsts that run out of content.

The reason why 1-5 takes like 1 hour to finish now is because everyone has all full 90 gear. When 6-9 come out everyone won't have the best gear anymore so its going to be hard for at least 2-3 months.

Yes it was a boss called Absolute Virtue.

The boss fight took about 18 hours for a group of players to defeat when Absolute Virtue was still new and caused people to become sick due to lack of sleep.

More current videos now is post-nerf Absolute Virtue and he can easily be defeated within minutes now.

I think the 18 hours fight was for Pandemonium Warden, some of the players fell ill after the attempt and it made quite a big headline, SE will certainly avoid doing something similar as players in actual fact, does not want very hard content, they simply want content that they can beat but others can't.

It was not only long but also one tough boss since he was one of two High Notorious Monsters.

It's been proven most skip through text and whatnot though, it was never exactly a secret in MMORPGs with quest grinds - Even SE skips through it when they were showing off the systems. (If they were trying to avoid spoilers as people would try to claim they wouldn't have shown it at all.)

It will last 3 months if they handle it the way they handled CT - Think about this: If LoTA didn't lock you out for a week, how fast do you think you'd have geared out your classes you play? Would you still be doing it almost a month later in terms of gear?

WoW, for starters. At least it used to, I don't know much about the raiding scene these days. However I imagine that progression raiding, more so for 25 mans, could require up to 4 hours.

the only reason people didnt beat TT was because it was bugged and the TT was closed the majority of 2.0. So its not really an excuse I expect it will be on farm in 2 months giving people 4 months to log in once a week.

It's a good thing then that 2.2 will have more than just that.

You know the new tome will have a cap and you're gonna be spending 3 months getting gear better than myth. Buying true AF2.

You're referring to Pandemonium Warden. That was a bug and was not actually "difficult", only impossible, as the boss just continually re-healed itself.

AV wasn't downed 'legitimately' until after cap went up from 75 to 99. Every kill method used to down it before that (dark knight kraken club zergs) were nerfed because it wasn't the 'right' way to kill it. AV was part of sea. I'm not sure if sea was released right when cop came out or not but that expansion came out in 2003 or 2004. I don't remember now its been a while ago. The cap didn't get raised until about 2009 or 2010. Even if my years are off by a bit that's still years of a no 'legit' kill.

I am still hoping to make it to Twintania one of these days...glad I still have lots to look forward to.

First off, I'm talking about total raid time across multiple raids as long as they're current content. FFXIV is an hour because technically it has only one real raid and will remain that way in 2.2 as mentioned in OP. Now as for your question, my previous serious play with an MMO was Rift and two of its main raids (Frozen Tempest/Endless Eclipse) required a total of 3-4 hours on farm by an average group. That's not even counting the smaller raids the game had. Before its expansion, one of its raids alone required that much time (Hammerknell). Personally it's my favorite raid dungeon of all time. Everything was perfectly done in it with a very memorable last boss. Even today, when people farm it as higher level/gear, it still takes over an hour at least.

... and you people mentioning how Twintania wasn't farmable before 2.1. That's because it was a bug and *intentionally* not fixed by SE for a long time. If they pull the same move with turn 9, then sure it won't be farmable for some time. It's a cheap tactic to keep the content last longer, but doesn't mean it actually lasts that long.

..and here I am coming from Aion where the "raids" lasted 10 minutes and you were locked out for 2-7 days, win or lose.

But they had PvP. So I guess that was something.

You mean how it took 3 months to finally kill Twintania?
