New Jobs: One possible concept

Was discussing some of the new job conversations with a friend on a MU* and had an idea on introducing new jobs without messing with the lore too much, and this was mostly inspired by Arcanist, in that, with this concept, each of the new jobs that hasn't been mentioned before is an alternate soulstone, much like Arcanist can go either a nuking role with Summoner or a healing role with Scholar. One rough idea would be

Warrior: Tank (Requirements: Marauder/Gladiator)
Dark Knight: Tank/DD hybrid (Marauder/Thaumaturge)
Pugilist->
Monk: pure DD (Pugilist/Lancer)
Dancer: DD/Support (Pugilist/Archer)

Ranger: Ranged DD (Archer/Lancer)

LNC/Marauder = Gunblade "Tech" (or sumthin lmao) DPS (ALSO able to throw grenades!!)

Actually i think they might have to expand the "jobs" first lol

I would love to see every class have one DPS option, and one option that's either tank or healer.

Yes like warrior as a barbarian or sumthing for straight dps. I would fly towards that. But at the same time they needa attract more healer/tank options aswell for obvious reason one being duty finding.

On topic: I would like to see an "Advanced Job' system requiring 3 classes to be at 30 to achieve the said job.
For example:

Dark Knight (2h sowrd)
30 Marauder
30 Thamaturge
30 Lancer

In addition to that I believe that this will only work if they introduce new classes such as the solider (2h greatsword), ronin (katanas), bandit (daggers), oracle (instrument) to coincide with the new jobs.

My personal thinking is that solider will be a tank class due to the nature of heavy weapons but in terms of spectrum it geared towards OT while PLD will still be a superior MT and WAR being the in median allowing for both effective MT and OT. The Ronin is a dps with focus on rotations similar to kendo where you have a high, med, and low stance and will be able to execute skills in said stances. Bandits are pretty much your standard dps/debuff/buff class with abilities that can help a party. I also feel that their innate party buff is a 10% drop increase to rare mats. Oracle is essentially a "support" class (if SE ever decides to implement it). Using Yin Yang magic (FFT reference) to buff your party and debuff enemies.

Solider -> Dark Knight
Ronin -> Samurai/Ninja
Bandit -> Thief
Oracle -> Time Mage/Sage*

*Only implement the sage job when and if SE decides to put long beards in the game

These all seem cool. Magic Knight sounds a little too generic though-- I think that Red Mage might work better in that spot, since Red Mages are known for their ability to use a one handed sword/shield and wear average armor, in addition to having decent magic capabilities. The issue of putting RDM there though is that they wouldn't have access to any heals (aside from any job-specific ones) which is definitely a RDM characteristic. Putting RDM as a job of THM however would mean that they need to use staves and wear robes which isn't very RDM-like >.<. People have mentioned Geomancer being a second job of Conjurer, since conjurers are very earthy (their spells being based off of earth, wind, and water), so maybe CNJ 30/THM 15 would be a way to work Geomancer in? LNC is a hard one because there's not much other than Dragoon to turn into, since the job needs to share the class weapon. I really enjoy reading threads and ideas like this-- I think it's crucial that SE come up with a second job for all the classes like they did with Arcanist before they start introducing even more classes. At the moment it seems very unbalanced and weird that Arcanist is the only class that gets you access to TWO jobs while the others only offer one. I believe the reason they released it this way is because they needed to introduce a second healing class because one wouldn't be enough (for DF reasons and whatnot), and so they went ahead and released SCH with SMN.

Honestly I don't think advanced jobs would be a good idea, because the fact that they're advanced would mean that they're naturally better than the jobs that already exist. That means that traditional jobs like White Mages and Paladins would be seen as lesser jobs. The advanced jobs you mention remind me a lot of Death Knights from WoW and how they generally had an advantage over the other classes. Eventually (when I played anyways) they were balanced out and basically ended up being just another class, but then what's the point of having a special "type" of class? Besides, introducing this concept of advanced jobs in my opinion takes away from the fact that jobs are supposed to be specialized in something. By having advanced jobs that come from several classes, it becomes less exclusive and more jack-of-all-trades like (in that it can borrow skills from 3 different classes) and I think that takes a bit away from what SE was going for when they came up with the class and job system. The advanced jobs you mentioned though I think are great ideas to be made into jobs off of currently existing/potential future classes!

The whole Armory System is not so good in my opinion.
Reason for that are the skills, its usually the class skill and 4-5 lame unique traits and skills
I was actually impressed that people voted for it to stay.

People already suggesting new class and jobs instead of jobs put into current class.
The jobs are like a skill tree no reason to put Dark Knight into a new class.
Dark knight can be in in the Gladiator Class as Job and still have a 2hand Sword.
I would like them to overhaul the Job system a bit so that the class skills also become more part of the job if you change and i also think the jobs itself could need a alternate way to be played like a Paladin that actually does something like a Paladin.

Its just the beginning but it i think it is stupid to have class and one Job, then they could have made only the job.
Having Scholar and Summoner is a good beginning but the whole system needs to be looked at.

Gladiator >Paladin >Defender tree>Pure mitigation make more use of "cover" like skills which halfes dmg and is taken to the tank and creates enmity instead of just the one combo (which then could be nerfed but then maybe hp similar to war)
>Mystic tree>more like the Paladin while the upper concentrates on pure physikal defense this one makes more use of healing spells, dispell e.t.c and also does not have that much defense than the upper or as much HP
You could give both classes the same Skill but different purpose
"Holy Cross" (cause Paladin aye?)>Defender> creates a ground AoE that mitigates 20% of the damage and is taken to the Defender (thats why i mentioned more HP)
>Mystic> creates ground AoE that heals 20% of the damage taken, the Mystic gets a bonus to 20%
Just random numbers by the way and also random ideas.
It would also be cool if SE looked at the class skills and change them if you also change jobs to be more part of the job.

The same is for Dark Knight he can be in gladiator and wield 2H swords.
Some People see him as pure DD others want him to be Tank?...will be a problem with the Current system.
If they would put something like skill trees you could do Direct dmg with Sword or more like debuff and dots or he could also tank through debuff and dots or something like that.
It will be too much if they would put new classes just so that the Jobs fit perfectly.
Thief could be in Archer who can change between range (Bow) or melee (2 daggers) with bleed e.t.c...while the new classes could fit the job description better it also makes it harder to put in alternatives.

And if we have 18 Classes and 16 jobs it makes classes kinda redundat.

Well, actually one reason I proposed that was to get people to do tanking/healing, even if they feel "I just want to DPS". Just look at Arcanist. There's loads of people who likely only leveled it to have Summoner. But you queue up for a dungeon, notice it's taking forever, and say "Ok, I'll go in as scholar so I don't have to wait an hour to play, but still get xp for my DPS" Probably not the best way to get folks playing tanks and healers, but it's something.

Actually as of now the highest posibility for Marauder's 2nd Job is Berserker.

Berserker is well known in FF series for their Berserk ability (which Marauder has) and often use Axe Weapons as their Main choice. They're known to be DPS type Job in FF series.

The first Berserker Job in FF series appeared in FFV and the main weapon choice is Axe Weapons.

I have a feeling tanks classes (marauder/gladiator) especially gladiator will expand into alternate tank roles.

The core skills of gladiator lend itself to tank by nature, the first combo you learn increases enmity same with marauder. Up until level 30 when job skills come into effect, all previous skills learned revolve around tanking. So how does that translate into damage dealing?

Unless SE revamps all the class actions or equipping a job stone gives alternate versions of base actions I don't foresee gladiator or marauder being anything but a tank regardless of job stone equipped.

Regarding the Advanced Classes idea, I believe Yoshi-P has already tossed around that idea in interviews (specifically Red Mage requiring White Mage and Black Mage to access it).

I think Advanced Classes could be a good way of offering hybrid or variety in class choices but would require significant investment into its components to even get there.

You already answered your question.

It is most likely tank skills will be changed to provide different effects in their DPS Jobs.

We already see this in action between the Arcanist two Jobs with Summoner getting stronger damage and tanking base summons to replace it's original Arcanist summons while Scholar two summons are completely changed to pets that focus completely on healing or providing attack speed buff.

Another example is how they can change Flash into Darkness instead if GLA gets Dark Knight for DPS Job. Turning Flash from a Enmity generating skill into Darkness being a Damage dealing skill.

Add THF.
Then do this.
-> THF + Alchemist = Assassin (alchemist to poison blades)
Then watch half the server bitch about it.

If we're throwing jobs out there, I'll have a go at it I guess. :) This is under the impression that RDM, MSK and BLU are out and Scout (SCT) turns into THF and NIN.

Soldier: (Lv30 Gladiator and lv30 Scout) Uses one-handed rapiers and leather armor, and their theme could be leadership. Not "lead the party into battle and tank" leadership, but leadership among the common peoples and armadas of Eorzea. They could have a special buff that involves rallying the party to battle. They could be DPS, but have Rally abilities that are usable only when in a party. They could have a passive "Squadron" ability that activates when in a full party, and a passive "Calvalry" bonus when in a full alliance.

Both passive abilities could increase the potency of Rally skills and give the party a slight buff in HP Regeneration. These passive abilities could be limited to one per party and one per alliance so people don't exclusively pick Soldiers for raids. In other words, they don't stack per party member.

Hunter:(Lv30 Maurader and lv15 Archer and lv15 Botanist) Can switch between Axes and Bows. Can tame woodland creatures for temporary periods of time and has a customizable permanent Sabretooth pet. Unlocks special Botany Mixes for healing pets and a special ability to find rare creatures to tame. Wears leather armor.

Of all the Job ideas that get tossed around on these forums, most of which I've been able to reasonably conceptualize, this is one that for the life of me I just don't get.

Why make the second part of Dark Knight the Thaumaturge? Is it because people think Dark Knight = Knight + Black Magic? Seems to me like that better describes the Mystic Knight. Dark Knight's iconic ability has always been Darkness, the ability to sacrifice HP in order to deal damage, it's not been casting magic. Sure, Dark Knight did that in FFXI, but spells on the melee classes were more filler than anything (with most being laughably useless given which stats you focused on).

But even if you could convince me that Thaumaturge is the best second half of Dark Knight, you're now stuck with Surecast, Blizzard II, and Swiftcast, which aren't worth the lines of code they're written in to a melee DPS. You're significantly better off with abilities like Blood for Blood, Invigorate, and Internal Release (to help compensate for the fact that, regardless of if it comes from Gladiator or Marauder, Dark Knight is still coming off a class that's a tank, and thus has no DPS cooldowns).

They will obviously introduce new classes along with a level cap increase so I don't believe that the current classes will loose relevance. In fact I think it might be the opposite since they too will have added skills. The idea behind the "advanced" job is really for the hardcore who have leveled all, if not most of the battle classes to 50 and allows for more freedom in terms of selecting which cross skills you need for the said job. But if they just introduce new classes then I guess it could bypass it entirely since they could just go the usual level 30/15 class = new job.

Class : Rogue --->job Thief : using Dualwield Daggers (1h slot like MNK cause system itself not allow dualwield i think)

Rogue class have 1st damage chains , DD boost j/a's , defensive J/a's , but when becoming job there's 2 ways of j/a's added.

Ninja - more support like BRD was intended ,self buffs ( shadows , different buffs) wide party buffs (like shadows covers party members from single att x 3 , but will wear if hit by aoe , also anti aoe , like x3 , but will wear if get hit by single or other source removing damage , and other buffs that NIN can use on himself ) , strong debuff Ninjutsu magic .
Class : Archer -->job Bard - well we have it :D
-->job Ranger - Pure DD version of archer .
Ranger using strong self buff j/a's, tho no party buffs at all , usuig DD limitbreak also .
Class : Ronin -->job Samurai
Ronin/Samurai 1job path only .Similar to DRG and MNK , SAM is strong DD with Tp high recharge (self/party) and longest skilltree chains ( like bout 5~6 moves in 1 chain )
Class : Fencer -->job Dark Knight . Tank/DD (can switch modes to offensive "Blood Rage" with j/a's will consume hp pool , and defensive "Blood Thirst" where DRK drains enemy Hp and def get's up also)
-->job Rune Fencer .for future patchs XD support job , that doing protecting/power gain buffs to party members , also can do good chunk of damage , but since gear considered "Clothes" RUN can't stand hard hitter boss , so can't tank at all .
Class : Bucaneer -->job Corsair . 1class/job path . Support job , with good chunk of damage just like in FFXI . Doing party buff rolls . Crit roll can heavy enchance party def or DD.
Class : Musketeer -->job Red Mage . Using rapiers primarly as weapon , but also can use Gladiator weapons on lower tiers . unlike Gladiators , RDM's heavy rely on enchance buffs & magic damage . RDM's have II tier of BLM magic&WHM (cure 2 also) with all respective procs . Using different sword combos from Gladiator can use ( like Red Lotus Blade ->Vorpal Blade -> Death Blossom )
-->job Blue Mage . Weapons choice is same as gladiator one , but also using eastern type swords (in game it will be "swordpair" for dualwield porpuses)
I doubdt game structure will allow learn spell as players learned in FFXI , cuz no way to learn anything from lv 1 by not 1 shot it . But can use dungeons last bosses for spell learn process :D
So BLU can use certain spells (also can choose what to set , depend of spell set , BLU stats will change) also unique sword combos from PLD or RDM.

Conjurer I actually thought of a good one, given the conjurer questline dealing with elements. I think as a conjurer dps job Geomancer would work.

Tamer: Beastmaster/Chocobo Knight.

Unique mechanic: Beastmaster can Charm pets, and then ride them, similar to the Magitek section of Praetorium and the Beast Tribe Daily quests, this would be ontop of regular Beastmaster mechanics. Chocobo Knight works on a similar grounds, but with Chocobos only. Beastmaster would be DPS, while Chocobo Knight would be a Tank.

If they're gonna add a new job, I really hope they add a new base class to the game too. A ton of people already have every class to 50, and once a new job comes out, those people would have a new max level job in under an hour. :(

First of all, we are planning a new race for an expansion pack. For the classes and jobs, we will introduce them through patches because all of the Legacy players have level 50 jobs anyway. When we introduce new classes and jobs we will probably increase the level cap at the same time.

About what I want to introduce- it’s more like what I think I have to introduce. Something related to guns because the (musketeer) guild in the game. Something related to that I think I have to introduce.

With the way the Armoury system works, I am hoping they will introduce one-handed and two-handed versions of each weapon type. For instance, introduced two handed swords that are also considered to be Gladiator Arms, like how Thaumaturge and Conjurer have both one handed and two handed versions of their weapons.

What I'd like to see for the current classes:

Marauder -> Beastmaster - Introduce one handed axes and let them tame a pet. DPS Job.

Pugilist -> Dancer - I'd love to see this as a DPS-to-Heal kind of Healer (ala Chloromancer from Rift or Mistweaver Monk from WoW), but a DPS Job with some support (like how BRD is) would work too.

Archer -> Ranger - Self explanatory and probably what will happen anyway.

Lancer -> Knight - Think FF Tactics Knight, with Break abilities that reduce the damage an enemy deals to them. Introduce one handed Spears (kind of like javelins or short spears) and let them equip a shield.

Conjurer -> Geomancer - I'd be really surprised and disappointed if they didn't do this. I feel like it's hands down the most obvious choice. Conjurers are practically Geomancers already with the spells they use. DPS role.

Thaumaturge -> Time Mage or Oracle - I'd love to see a Time Mage healer (reverses time to heal), but I'd be surprised if they did that. More likely a support DPS. Oracle (ala FF Tactics) could be a more DoT heavy status effect DPS.

Gladiator -> Dark Knight - I think they already said or implied Dark Knight would come from Gladiator, and I think it would make a lot of sense given that Paladin comes from GLD too. Makes me think of Cecil from FF4. Introduce 2 handed Swords as weapons.

On a side note, I would love to see Musketeer get added with Corsair (DPS) and Chemist (Healer, like FFT Chemist), and a class that gives Red Mage and Blue Mage as the Jobs. I'd hate to see Red Mage attached to Thaumaturge or Conjurer, because I don't think it should be a pure ranged caster Job.

Also why when people talk about Dark Knight it is always about Cecil and Two-handed weapons? What about the first Dark knight Leon who is the Original Dark Knight and known to wield Sword and Shield.
