Players need job/class combo info ASAP to have time to prepare.

I would think that a logical first step to starting the job system is to assign each class their future job, then start to work on it. Therefore, this info should be known to the devs relatively early in the process, almost from its inception.

Those job/class assignments are actually really important to players. Many of us are levelling entire classes with the future job assignment in mind. That is, they're not playing thaumaturge to play thaumaturge. They're playing thaumaturge to be a black mage or red mage. Needless to say, levelling of that class takes many hours.

When job assigments for each class are known, could we get informed of that ASAP so we have time this summer to prepare for that?

If for instance, someone who loves blm levelled conjurer...but at the last minute finds out conjurer actually unlocks white mage...that's instant rage factor there. Or if someone finds out that black mage, or thief, or summoner isn't an initial job at all, that's rage factor too. And if say marauder gets beastmaster...that is bedlam right there. Players need time to cope with the possibility that their job doesn't match why they levelled that class, or that their job isn't even in the first round at all.

Players will tolerate any potential disappointment/missed expectations the more time they're given to react to that news.

So earlier is better. Like...months in advance. As soon as possible. People need time to react to that decision.

Judging from your posting history, I'm surprised at you Peregrine. lol. SE takes baby steps, not giant leaps of faith. Afraid you're SOL partner.

I have been asking for this for a while, I think most of the classes are easy to spot but CON and THM are the two that are a bit iffy.

CON on the face of it with Elemental and Ancient Magic would be the better suited BLM, that would leave THM to be WHM but WHM doesn't fit THM at all really. THM does have the better AOE for curing and buffing but lacks pretty much everything else a traditional WHM would have. Their lore is darker and better suited to BLM yet they also lack the Elemental and Ancient Magics that a BLM would have.

Yoshi stated that classes would be rebuilt from the ground up where needed and these two are going to need more work than others to get them to the two Job roles most people are expecting. Ww have already seen the BLM AF as it were so that will be coming without a doubt and if there is a BLM they will also have to have a main heal Job and that will most likely come as a WHM as you can't have one without the other :p

I would like to know which one will be which and what changes to each class there will be in order to pull off these Jobs.

As for the rest of the Jobs I see it like this:

GLA -> PLD
PUG -> MNK
MRD -> WAR
LNC -> DRG
ARC -> RNG
CON -> ???
THM -> ???

Also to me it seems like they are moving away from the weapon=class system from what we have heard recently and moving more towards a FFXI system as it were. For example Archer having some sort of close range auto attack that does not use arrows, that sound to me very much like it was in FFXI. Then also what was just said by Bayohne:

Again, it's simple. Don't get your hopes up with what you THINK the job you're leveling will unlock. Seriously, this isn't hard to grasp. Assuming that Summoner will be in this game is just laughable, same goes for Red Mage, Black Mage, Thief, White Mage, Dragoon, Ninja, etc.etc. All that has been CONFIRMED is Paladin. You're just going to dash your OWN hopes because you're thinking for your selfish self. It's actually more ignorance than selfishness.

Also, whats to say that you HAVE to accept these job quests? They're quests that give you a title*, that's it. That title* might open yourself up to unique abilities, spells, and armor through ADDITIONAL quests, but you're still a Marauder, Pugilist, etc.

Right now, people are leveling the jobs they've leveled, because that's what they wanted to level. You can't tell someone who's been playing since release that still doesn't have a level 50 was/is leveling that job because they thought it would turn into a different job. This "job system" wasn't even mentioned till a few months ago. Give me a break.

Like someone said already, we've seen BLM gear, we know that job is coming. We've also seen what looked like DRK equipment. If we're going to have BLM it makes sense to have its opposite the WHM. If we're going to have a PLD it makes sense to have its opposite the DRK.

They really need to announce this stuff and fast. Then again it doesn't matter much to me because I'll be 50 CON and THM by the time it matters. I'll just sell all my equip for whichever becomes WHM.

Yeah DRK is the one that confuses me because out of the classes we have I suppose THM is the best fit but only because of it's Absorb Spells and there is no current weapon that a DRK would wield really. They also said they have no plans to release new "classes" in the near future so unless it was a sneak peek at what is to come further down the line, I don't know. They either must be making some huge changes to the current system or it just isn't coming anytime soon until they add an appropriate weapon class.

As for DRK, MRD is the most likely choice. But who knows.

Out of the choices we currently have maybe but MRD would be better suited for WAR. If MRD was DRK where is it's Scythe or G. Sword.

DRK had ok Great Axe skill too, but yes Warrior was better at that.

Yes I can see the story now, a bunch of renegade Botanists angry at not having Grade 6 nodes went emo and started to use there Scythes in battle to release the pent up anger they carried by not being able to harvest higher tier flowers ^^

I think it's about time they tell us. I haven't played in over a month because I don't want to waste my time leveling a class that leads to a job I don't want. If they would tell us which class lead to which job then I would start playing again and level whatever job leads to DRK, if that job is implemented. And we can speculate all day but it doesn't matter because none of it is confirmed unless SE says so, so far all we have is gladiator to paladin.

Well if they don't know, they don't know. They very well may not know the initial 1-class-1-job roster yet. It's going to be a tough call any way you cut it thanks to drk all but being confirmed (who gets it?) and thm throwing a wrench into the system (what is it really?)

If they know, it shouldn't be too hard to get the answer from Mr. Matsui. They like to keep him in a locked closet, but from his few words and demanding that Yoshi-P tellus certain things, sounds like he'd like to spill the beans too. There would be little point in holding that information for a big surprise. The big surprise could end up being a ragequit event. I know if either of those mages turn out to be white mage, which I really doubt will happen but who knows... people are going to drop it like a bad habit.

Can you imagine the rage if conjurer, the red-headed stepchild of magic, gets whm and thaumaturge, the broken big brother, gets blm for damage or rdm for haste and party benefits? There would be riots. Just pure insanity that we might as well get out of the way ASAP.

Whatever's gonna happen is going to happen. No point in delaying the reaction.

I'd like to see SE just go ahead and finish the intended classes from Limsa that never got done in time (each town was supposed to have 3 classes, limsa never got done), and go ahead and not only announce that those two classes are coming, but to announce what jobs they will become as well.

I'm thinking we'll see jobs at the end of August, but those two extra classes would be nice september or october additions.

They have actually done a good job. Yoshida's checkboxes are actually adhered to. Even with the usual Square Enix speak that lets them retrospectively fudge their release timing and say NUH UH IT WAS TECHNICALLY ON TIME...they're giving people heads up.

But this is just a heads up that once it leavs the dev table, it should go straight up here. Yoshida-approved to everyone knows in 48 hours or less, once they know those initial jobs, everyone should.

I think we got a long way to go in any event to even care right now.

Not so. These things are due to be introduced and in the game by the end of summer. We need all of summer to prepare if possible.

Thief is going to be...complicated. It was drawn and quartered. Head went to pugilist. Body went to lancer. Arms to gladiator. Feet to archer.

I know it sounds silly, but a player could pick the classes that make them more content now than plan for a job and hope that job will represent the abilities or role(s) as dictated by previous FF games.

As I've said in other posts, I took up Conjurer because I wanted to be a healer. I want to be a White Mage. But right now, CON/THM are the two biggest hybrid classes in this game. I have no idea how they're going to handle this, so, this is one reason I've stopped leveling my DoM classes.

I'd like to know so I can start playing again.

CON-Sage
THM-Oracle
No BLM and WHM at all.
Good a guess as any.

The problem with that is we're final fantasy fans. We don't give a **** about woodwailers and thaumaturgy. Yeah yeah yeah thal. Nald. Whatever what is it REALLY going to be. You can't beat 20+ years of job lore with some generic no-name classes, and what jobs those classes are going to turn into is what people care about.

The classes had their chance to merit their own levelling and for people to grow to be fans of them. They largely bombed.

I would love information on this as well, but, I wouldn't be surprised if we do not know before it's in game and we need to figure it all out ourselves with no information on what makes what, who gets what job and what weapons, etc...such a headache. ^^; I really hope more information is provided beforehand and that it's implemented in a fashion that makes players happy/unique-feeling and not completely confined/miserable. ; - ;

That's about the only reason I can think to sit on the info...to "surprise" players and let them "discover it for themselves."

But by god if you let players discover that their class isn't the job they want by themselves and surprise them with an "Iran Man" volume one edition 1 comic book...they're going to be so pissed, nothing SE's seen since september will come close.

Personally I think they will hold off on the info until a few days before they implement it if the changes to classes are huge. If the announced today that THM was getting rebuilt and most of it's offensive/debuff skills were being removed and replaced with curing and buffing spells people would be going apeshit for a however long it took them to implement it. If they wait until just before they put it in then yeah people will still go crazy but at least it will be done and dusted and not drawn out over a month or so waiting for the update.

The way it sounds to me is they are probably going to deconstruct what conjurer and thaumaturge are, as well as the other classes. I wouldn't be surprised to see defender go to gladiator, for example. They will probably streamline class abilities from the bottom up to fit more neatly into the package their jobs will eventually be.

I dunno, I think they're going to try to get away with something quite a bit lazier than that and just let the job overlay patch the problem. Reworking all the classes from the ground up...that's gonna need more heads up than what job's going to what class.

I wasn't thinking new abilities, but what if they take sacrifice over to conjurer, and debuffs from conjurer over to thm? That's the kind of thing I'm wondering about....it's almost like conjurer needs to turn into black mage or white mage, but where does that leave thm? Time mage and red mage? I don't know.

It's almost like each class needs to split into at least two jobs to make sense.

I agree they are going to have to restructure the mage classes. They simply have to.

Right now Con could be either a blm or a whm and make sense. It wouldn't make sense to exclude one though. In my opinion, conjurers fit the role of blm much better than whm. They deal with elementals after all. It is a lighter version of blm to be sure, but still closer to blm.

To me, THMs background really suggests whm over blm, though it is a darker kind of whm than we are used to. They deal with life and death.

In any case, these changes are going to make people mad. No getting around that. And I believe that alone is why they are keeping such a tight lip right now. No point in pissing people off now since things could change before they put this stuff in. Better to just wait so that the right group of people get miffed.

I just wonder how they are going to deal with the lore issues tacking these jobs on creates. Arena prize fighters are becoming holy knights? Do pugs become thieves or monks? Thief makes sense based on their lore but not on their abilities. If monks, which is most likely, how does that make sense based on their lore? These quests to unlock the jobs better be good and convincing, that's for sure.

to be perfectly honest this job thing is kind of a bad idea, with only these classes, and a 1 to 1 plan, because like 3 of these jobs dont really fit, but they are going to want to make them fit, into classic roles. Looking at conjurer, its really like a redmage without a sword, thaumaturge is like some usually less known class, maybe oracle maybe something else, but it isnt black mage like at all, not whm like at all. Its a debuff dot tanking mage class. Pugilist doesnt fit the lore of monk in any way, and has most of the skills of theif.

The problem with the 1 to 1 system is its going to force them to make jobs the wrong jobs, just to fulfill the most likely/desired job classes, or to put a class into a role they need, like whm. Honestly no class is very whm like right now, no class should be whm.

@OP I entirely agree that we should receive information on which class receives which job in order to prepare because like everyone has already stated what CON and THM are going to be is very confusing. Personally I am going to be trying to rank every class to 50 because I just have the desire to do so, but I can only imagine what disappointment could lie ahead for those who have their specializations and end up misinterpreting which class will receive which job.

@The whole DRK dilemma: I believe that MRD would become DRK if it is going to be implemented. Yes in XI DRK mainly used a Great Sword and Scythe, but like someone had said, it also had decent Great Axe skill. Also, in IV iirc the DRK character used a long sword. So rly it all depends on the devs to determine which weapon DRK would mainly use.

@The job system as a whole: It has been stated that jobs will be party play focused while original classes will remain for solo play and that jobs will still be able to cross class abilities but will be restricted. So say if MRD does indeed become DRK maybe when you equip the DRK job it will be able to use a lot of THM abilities such as the absorb spells, at full affinity, while not being able to use abilities like sacrifice or cure from CON at all.

Really all we can do now is speculate until more information is released, which is something I know we all don't want to do ;)
