What's your coil static?

I'm looking to put together a static coil group, and I was wondering what group compositions everyone has found to be successful. What seems to make sense is 1 whm, 1 sch, 1 melee, 2 caster dps, 1 brd, 1 war and 1 pld. What works for everyone else? And what turns do you find different comps to help on?

Our basic static has been: 1 war, 1 pld, 1 whm, 1 sch, 1 brd, 1 smn, 1 blm, 1 mnk. For certain turns we go 2 melee, like turn 1 and 4. However, mostly go with the first comp for every turn, especially turn 5.

PLD PLD BRD BRD BLM DRG WHM SCH. Turn 1-4 cleared in 45 mins last weekend. I play BLM and my DPS is good enough to keep up with the Soldiers in T4 before the Dreadnaught in Phase 3 spawns so a second caster isn't necessary, but could be helpful still for the AoE phases.

Usually one shot t1-4

T1: 1x PLD, 1x WAR, 1x WHM, 1x SCH, 1x BRD, 1x BRD/MNK (depends on what he wants to play), 1x MNK, 1x DRG
T2: 1x PLD, 1x WAR, 1x WHM, 1x SCH, 2x BRD, 1x MNK, 1x DRG
T3: Just run trough it ^_^
T4: 1x PLD, 1x WAR, 1x WHM, 1x SCH, 2x BRD, 1x MNK, 1x DRG
T5: 2x PLD, 1x WHM, 1x SCH, 2x BRD, 1x BLM/SMN (depends on what he wants to play), 1x MNK

We are a static of 8 ppl that uses the different jobs the game offers.

Our oringal group was as follows:

PLD, PLD, BLM, SMN, BRD, BRD, WHM, SCH

Now days we have the right geared alts to try our different tactics and get things done quicker:

T1: PLD, PLD, BLM, SMN, BRD, BRD, WHM, SCH
T2: WAR, DRG, DRG, BRD, BRD, BRD, WHM, SCH or same as above when we're not doing the enrage tactic.
T3: People usually switch into Spiritbonding gear here, so as long as we have a tank and a healer, we're not too bothered.
T4: PLD, WAR, BLM, SMN, BRD, BRD, WHM, SCH

That's our Free Company though, we have about 8-14 people that switch in and out from time to time, depending on who is online. The party composition doesn't change much however.

T4 we switch to a few alts and go PLD, WAR, SMN BLM BRD MNK WHM SCH

Currently completing coil, twintania included, in about 1 hour 30 mins to 2 hours if we get unlucky with T5.

pld, war, whm, sch, smn, mnk & 2brd

we have a roster big enough for 2 coil groups but don't have statics per say. The 2 groups change week to week but our basic goal is....

1. At least 1 pal (not really needed but we only have 2 war so why put them together?)
2. at least 1 whm
3. only 1 melee dps
4. a bard

sometimes groups will have 2 pal, some will have 2 whm, etc etc.

Apart from some adjustments here and there our usual setup is:

- 2x PLD
- 2x WHM
- 2x BLM
- BRD
- MNK

That said, apart from me the rest of the group has multiple jobs leveled and geared for at least T1~3.

2 Warrior
1 Bard
1 Black Mage
1 Summoner
1 Monk
1 White Mage
1 Scholar

Usually one Shot T1-T4

Ours is: PLD, PLD/WAR, WHM, SCH, BLM, SUM, BRD, MNK

Our FC has a slight lack of tanks ready for coil at the moment so the offtank can switch between PLD and WAR depending on whos online/wanting to run ^.^

One shooting T1-T4

We are now trying to add some diversity (a pld going war, a sch going whm, a brd going melee), so as not to be caught unaware if future content require their tools, but for now it seems completely unnecessary.


My understanding of what you need in a 2tank/2healers/4dps setup:

-At least 1 pld (possible without one, warrior is closer in power level now, but invincible is such a powerful and versatile tool)
-For healers everything works. We had once a messy turn 4 kill where we had to go through almost 1min30 of enrage, and 2 sch did this just fine, even though whm is better aoe healing. Seriously no issue here whatever you go for.
-For dps you really, really want 1 brd. Then you want 1 or 2 magical dps. all the rest is okay. 2 melee can be a bit tough for T2, but still doable. 3 magical is a bit high -- for turn 4 your brd will suffer and work overtime, but it is doable. Doing 0 magical is possible, but harder in T4 too. 2 magical, 1 brd, one melee is the most classic and efficient setup overall, but as long as you have one brd, whatever the rest, you will be fine.

You also want 2 of pld and brd overall in your group (could be 1 brd 1 pld, or 2 brd). A mnk can replace one, but it is cluncky in turn 2. A third silencer to backup is optimal (can be a monk for backup though, much more easily, as they have a CD to access their silence whenever they want once in a while).



So if you sum up, i would say what you want, like, really, is 1 pld, 1 brd -- without those you will suffer. The rest is pretty much free comp, although obviously "standard" comp are marginally better. Most versatile and efficient comp overall would probably be PLD, WAR, WHM, SCH, BRD, BLM, SMN, MNK.

This setup works for every single turn. I guess optimal setup would be: PLD, WAR, WHM, SCH, BRD, MNK or DRG, BLM and SMN.

Overall, I feel like that is the best composition, and it is the one that my group uses:

Tanks: WAR/PLD (MT/OT roles vary based on the fight)
Healers: WHM/SCH
DPS: MNK/BRD/BLM/SMN

Our SMN goes BRD for T2 just to simplify things, but double BRD is not necessary.

PLD/PLD/SCH/WHM/SMN/BLM/MNK/BRD
easily clearing 1-4 every week, working on 5.

Don't have one - ran through and have no desire to repeat it ad-nausea.

If you don't enjoy repeating PvE content, you're playing the wrong game.

Our group clears Turn 1-4 every week and is currently working on T5. We run:

2xPLD, 1 WHM, 1 SCH, 1 DRG, 1 MNK, 1 BLM and 1 BRD

Don't see why people tend to think that bringing 2 melee is necessarily harder than bringing 3 Casters/Ranged. Both setups work fine and I don't see any issue with bringing 2 melee DPS.

I'd say most stuff can even be done with 3 or even 4 melee DPS without making things too complicated.

I love our setup. We do slightly weird stuff to compensate for me being the only caster in T4 but we still clear T1-T4 in about 45 min. We also no longer hit enrage on T4. Currently working on T5. (up to divebombs/snakes consistently)

My group consists of PLD (me), WAR, WHM, SCH, DRG, BRD, BLM and SMN (just got MNK to 50 so will switch out on certain turns). Our group consisted of no duplicate Jobs, even before the 2.1 nerf to groups that have multiple of the same Jobs, it just worked out that way for us. We normally 1 shot T1 to 4 in about 40 min or so. We haven't done T5 much, just about 1 to 2 hour attempts every week for practice.

Unfortunately, I agree at this point and have cancelled. I will check in on updates and if an expansion comes soon, might return for it. As it is, the copious amount of repetition in this game leaves little to be desired beyond other game offerings out there at the moment for my tastes.

My static is the same set up (though 2 Whms and a war as OT) and I need to ask you, how do you handle T4's phase 4-5 transition? We always seem to have some bugs alive and was wondering if you could offer some advice maybe?

T2 with a lot of melee can be difficult due to passing rot. However, I agree with you on the other turns. We have used 2 melee in T1, T4...haven't tried it with T5 but can't imagine it being that much more difficult than 1 melee.

PLD, PLD, WHM, SCH, MNK, BRD, BLM and BLM/SMN

Right now our group is 1 PLD, 1 WAR, 1 DRG, 1 MNK, 1 BRD, 1 SMN, 1 WHM, 1 SCH. We do this every week and it takes us around 30 minutes to complete 1-4. You can take any combination of classes, within reasonable bounds, and be successful in coil.

We're class-stacked to hell, but not on purpose. Those are just the classes we have, and dont want to kick someone or make them play something they'd rather not just for class diversity.

We just focus kill the rooks and one bug and feed the rest to the dread. In phase 5 we all focus the dread which will die easily enough before phase 6 sets in. We obviously employ the single dread strat.

passing rot with a lot of melee isn't that difficult, though. After the initial pass rotation everyone just stacks up on the ADS and the rot and immunity will take care of the passing itself.

Turn 1-4: 1 MRD 1 PLD 1 SCH 1 WHM 1 BLM 1 BRD 1 DRG 1 SMN

Turn 5: 2 PLD same set up before. ^^

It also goes without saying to make sure all your group members are roughly on the same page. Trying to recruit for coil too quickly can get you a group where half might be just starting turn 1 while the other half is on turn 4. Be patient and make sure the party is one that can do what you want it to do.
