World outside of cities seems redundant

Seems like there's no point of having this beautiful world in AAR because it's practically dead outside of cities/dungeons due to no one doing fates anymore.

Fates were one of the core aspects of 2.0, why nerf them to the point where no one wants to do them?

Now I do love the bonus exp from dungeons and extra tomes from roulette but why can't we just have both?

It kinda stinks how awesome the world is but now due to fates being nerfed it's just ghost town after ghost town. They could have just created cities and dungeons and it wouldn't be that different now.

I hear "well now players won't be so bad because of fate grinding from 1-50." I personally haven't noticed much of an increase in the skill of the majority of players I've come across in roulette. I don't think doing Satasha 500 times is going to change that.

I'm just a little bummed out to see how unlively the game world feels now. Well just thought I'd post my 2 cents. :p

What about for the players who actually WANT to fate grind to 50 rather than do dungeons? I'm not saying that it's the right way to level but those players matter too. Also the point of this thread was to point out that the world outside of cities is rather dead BECAUSE of the fate nerf.

Well so many people complain dungeons not rewarding, now this is to complain on FATE. It never ends, balance after balance, complain after complains.

The current FATE and Dungeon system I would say its very well balanced, you dont just kill 15-20 monsters just to finish a FATE anymore, the more people in it, the harder it is to complete a FATE and this is way better so that stragglers who tries to reach the FATE still have time to join in it. Reward for FATE system based on exp, gil and seals have not been nerfed at all i think. So I think its a good balancing.

Dungeons, now gives more rewarding experience and gil. Encourages more people of an alternative way of levelling up and earn gil. I would agree the current balancing for the dungeons is good.

Anyways in the server I am in now, there are still tons of people grinding FATE in Coerthas and Northern Thanalan :)

No it's not, if everyone does ONE thing and not the other then it's not balanced. I'm not saying it should be like before and everyone just fate grind to 50 but people shouldn't have to dungeon to 50 either. Why couldn't SE just let us have both that way players can actually choose which they would like doing? Also on my server I hardly ever see anyone fate grinding, especially at night which I am most active.

I agree, FATEs these days are only active during the busy hours, and even then, it's only couple of areas with around 10 people at most.

I do like doing both, personally.
While dungeons are faster exp now, and generally more fun, plus a chance (though usually a slim one) to socialize, sometime it's nice to sit back and semi-afk while reading or watching something and just running from one FATE to another.

If they really wanted to make the new FATE system work, it should scale the CURRENT FATE's difficulty to the present participants, instead of the next one to pop as it does now.

For me it was a great way to get exp when I had a 45+ min que time for dungeons.

ITT: OP is unhappy that FATEs don't end in a minute and award the best experience option (by a landslide) in the game any more.

Truth is, people are still doing both. I decided to grind a few FATEs yesterday on my BLM to get closer to 46 for reputation quests. Went to N. Than, did a /shout LFG and got a group instantly. At each FATE we went to there was probably 15-20 people doing them. However, with the changes, the FATE actually was fun now. Lots of things to kill (I got more exp killing the mobs than from the actual FATE), lasted longer than a minute and felt much more satisfying than they previously were.

But unlike before, I also now have the option to level up my tanks via dungeons. Or my other DPS classes via Battleleves. I have options.

FATEs are still a great source of experience and people are still doing them. However, since, as Silver said, they are balanced, they aren't the only thing people are doing.

This is not an issue on Cerberus - lvl 45 and under

To be honest, it seems like FATEs are finally 'working as intended' - providing an alternate way to gain some exp while you queue for dungeons etc. I remember teleporting to The Forgotten Springs and getting dropped into a FATE. I switched to my Lv 38 Bard (that I grinded on dungeons and roulette exp) and it was actually pretty enjoyable - felt like a genuine FATE as opposed to zerging them in Coerthas.

Speaking of FATEs, one thing I would like them to change is the achievement number. They modified the number of turn ins needed for the crafting/gathering stuff based on the fact that the original numbers would take you five years. How about reducing it a bit for FATEs? Doing 3000 FATEs now is a bit absurd. I grinded 3 classes almost entirely to 50 on FATEs and I only have 1450. And with more options in the game now, there isn't a chance I'll do 3000 FATEs. Several people I spoke to said they were in the 1100-1300 range. Maybe set the highest FATE achievement number in the range of 1500-2000? I'd be happy with 1500 (almost there), but 3000 just seems really high.

Ah, you see the crafting one were imports from FFXIV 1.x, which was fine for then considering how that crafting system worked but it wasn't exactly casual. They were designed as long term goals but people wanted everything nao nao!

This is why they have myth, coil and labyrinth lockouts - how else will they keep us around till next updates? It seems silly if you try to specifically go for it, but it makes sense if you realize it's done to keep people playing in the long run.

Give us a reason to walk outside SE. I mean that portal right outside Wineport for Coil... LOL
Just put it outside Mor Dhona, cause it's ridiculous as it is now - Either you walk somewhere or you port, not port somewhere to walk outside the city wall there...

Wish they'd bring back (H)NM... With these graphics I'd love to camp stuff with "normal" windows.

So OP, you do realize that FATEs were not changed in 2.1, they are still the same fast way to level. The difference is they are not the ONLY FAST way to level now. The daily roulette is nice and a quick boost of exp, but unless you have a set group to run with dungeon grinding is still slower than FATEs when you get them going.

The other reason for the lower rate of FATE runners right now is 2.1 release alot of new content and players are working on doing said new content rather than just leveling new classes. in a few weeks once the rush to farm lot from all the new content dies down the number of people leveling alts will increase and FATEs will increase again.

The world should not be dead because players are leveling up. If this is the case it is bad design. The world should be lively but it isnt, XIV is nothing more than a damn lobby game.

I am going to tell you exactly why. I have extensive multiplayer experience in games; however, little in the MMO aspect. From what I've seen, the MMO community is not able to be pleased and are more or less crazy. The thing is, everyone wants to rush to the end (for some sort of reason, idk) so there is no concept of "good," "okay,"...there is just BEST, and it works in absolutes. So if FATEs are the BEST way to level up, the MMO community cannot harness their ADD and NOT do FATEs, they will do them to the maximum. People say they want more dungeons, false. They will still speed run the fastest myth/hr dungeon. Also, they do not factor intangible and implied costs. Everyone forgot that if FATEs got nerfed then the fields would be deserted because everyone would be doing DUNGEONS (the new fastest way to level up to the point where you can do the new fastest way to get myth and then myth your way onto the next MMO).

There is really no hope for the players and the genre. They're unstatiable. You work months on a dungeon, community completes in in 60 minutes, says that the dungeon is old and they want more.

You even said it yourself "why did they nerf FATEs in 2.1." FATES WEREN'T TOUCHED IN 2.1!!! They just made dungeons better! However, the community works in absolutes.

Open world is just that open world the issue at hand is everything is instanced. The open world should be full of danger and challenges not hand holding. Even the dungeons are patheticely easy. Lets add some open world content that isnt a free for all, open world content that challenges a player going from A to B. Hell at this point even nm or hnm would be more fun than just walking casual from point a to b cause nothing poses a threat or challenge.

Nobody does anything out in the world because the open world is just a giant lobby to wait for dungeon pops and trade in tokens. They could really just keep Revenants Toll and scrap the rest of it.

The problem is that the crowd will always follow the optimal EXP, it's not that most of those players loved FATES (Not saying people don't like them though) but that FATES were just the best option at the time. Now that Dungeons are viable people don't care anymore.

Such a shame you really only get to enjoy it once, on your first job you level to 50 until you're out of quests.

Many people are missing the point of this thread, they think I'm QQing because people can't fate grind to 50 anymore.

While it's sad that fates are just no longer an option due to lack of people running them, I'm more concerned as to what the whole point of even having a game world outside of cities/towns when the devs basically killed it themselves. It makes no sense.

I think players should be encouraged to go out and about in the game world not sit in town and just wait for dungeon queues. That's not a good MMORPG design, and I only say this because I actually enjoy the environment. I can see new players steered away because they think the game is dead when they're questing.

That's because FF XIV is what people like to call a theme-park MMO. You move from attraction to attraction until you all end up in Mor'Dhona or some Inn Room aside from going into duty queue. It's sad but that's the way the game is. They didn't want this to be FF XI where you had to venture out into the world for NMs or any sort of content.

Probably every world differs. Or maybe you are most active when majority of the players are actually not logged in because its not their prime time yet. If you would try to find out what the prime time of the majority, then I am sure you will see that there are still tons of people doing FATE and also dungeons now because practically in 2.1, both systems are already giving you the intended amount of gil and exp gained proportional to the time you spend in either of the system you participated.
